  • NORFOLK, Va. (Nov. 15, 2014) After completing a nine-month deployment in the U.S. 5th and 6th Fleet Areas of Operations (AOR), the ships and squadrons of the George H.W. Bush Carrier Strike Group (GHWB CSG) returned to their homeports in Norfolk, Va., Whidbey Island, Wash. and Mayport, Fla., Nov 15.
    The GHWB CSG is comprised of the aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77), Carrier Air Wing 8 (CVW-8), Destroyer Squadron 22 (CDS 22), the guided-missile cruiser USS Philippine Sea (CG 58), and the guided-missile destroyers USS Truxtun (DDG 103) and USS Roosevelt (DDG 80). The Strike Group, which deployed on 15 February, steamed a total of 73,400 nautical miles throughout two different AORs in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF), Operation Inherent Resolve (OIR) as well as Maritime Security Operations (MSO) and Theater Security Cooperation (TSC) efforts while working with joint, coalition and allied forces.     I visited NAS Miramar & USS Ranger back in 1989 (i was only 17 years old ) / 1990 / 1996 when i was on holiday from France! Best time of my life !! Thank you US Navy !

    I remember my cool awesome
    Battleship battle groups that we were part of at sea duty which me being deck ape I had lots of hard work at sea afloat but for nice allied nations we got to visit in liberty ports was great which hope one day can return to for tourism visit now that off active duty I can travel to them places when no war. I hope to tour Europe next year if still alive and maybe have my birthday in Thailand again or Europe nation

    I remembee my homecomings to yokosuka Japan .my ship one of them called
    Uss white plains afs4 orient express. .my ship made many long deployments from south china sea an gulf of aden
    And indian ocean. It was awesome all asian nations went to on my ship
    7th fleet navy ship
    My favorite nation was Perth western Australia we docked there 10 nights.
    My second favorite was patayya beach Thailand an Phuket Thailand. Thailand nation great nation I finally get to go back there for homecoming my first time since 1983 returning there to my favorite Asian city l
    Pattaya beach. Plan to be there for my big big 60th birthday November 2 this year

    I wanted to tour our carrier docked in Norfolk couple years ago but was not allowed I did not know why accept the navy pier security officer said I was not allowed due to not being active duty . I had retiree disabled vet I'd card but still not allowed so hope this year maybe I be allowed being a deck ape boatswain on both my other deck dept ships

    I was ship deck ape so I miss my good sea duty pay I got but wish would been wiser with investing my money an saving it.
    I wish been wiser with my money in navy but I was only 17-18 years old did not ever think about investing money or saving I just wanted to spend spend spend it
