Was on USS Harlan County and Spartanburg County. Both LST. Sold and scrapped later. Doing this very thing in an amtracs unit. USMC. Great vehicles. They take you off the frikn ship!
The AAVP-7A1 is a beautiful military vehicle, I want it to remain operational for many more decades, and never need to be replaced from the useless acv.
Ya, quite the adventure. Seen a Trac hit the end of the ship hull trying to come in and guy in commanders hatch jammed his hand against between his body and the amtracs turret as out suddenly stopped. I saw his expression when it happened. Ouch.
it looks like the deck crew dosn't cooperate well. Even got different signals for the same move. And some got light-sticks wile others use their hands like a sivilian. Even saw several deck crew standing side-by-side and showing different signals. I'm not surprised that the accident/collision occured. One person in front and one person at the back for each AAV would be sufficient and much more secure.
+Craig Barrow LOL !!!! Ahhh come on !!! I loved the Old LST's nothing finer than being rocked in the rack on a peaceful night out at sea. Let's not even get going when the seas really get going though !!! LOL
I was on Harlan County 1196 and also on the Spartanburg County. I for some reason remember a dry well deck. I see some here on RUclips of ships that flood the well deck staging area. I can only assume that it's easier to launch and board ship by using water to ease weight of aav?
@@comm2531 the LST well deck was dry. Usually only part of the stern ramp was submerged. Rode the Fresno 1182, Frederick 1184, Schenectady 1185, and Spartanburg County 1192. YATYAS.
On board a ship you don't want things to move around particularly in heavy weather. So you keep things tight and lash them down. You also want to carry as much as you safely can.
Brings back memories, but most of the time we boarded LSTs, a much more tricky boarding than just a casual stroll onto a D. Splashing off an LST is much cooler too, the ramp is steep and when splashing the whole front end of the hog would go under water and usually close the aspirator for a moment causing everyone's ears to pop... scared the shit outta the grunts! YATYAS!
anfernee jones Hell yeah! The best was the USS Harlan County, went to Beirut and back on her. We had the bow berthing compartment... nice and cool, roomy, comfortable... and I had one of the forward bunks right on the bulkhead that, when it was quiet at night, you could just make out the sound of the water passing over the hull outside. Great ride, tough deployment, but traveled in comfort.
I knew someone was going to screw up. And how come those sailors just stood there watching and didn't saying anything when the AAV was getting too close.
Yooo I was there! I ended up getting a massive cyst on my back that was straight up purple. I remember asking SSGT Lynch if I can go to medical and he took me up there to ship sick bay, good times.
Also I remember looking at the track and ship wall after the ship bump, and I just remember seeing a giant dent on the wall and the track ended up getting the rack slightly bent.
interesting but i see a lot of the ground crew dont care about thier ears . no ear protedtion and why arent they wearing high visibilty vests in that enviroment

I'm watching this trying to understand what happened to the Marines today...my son is also a Marine & there have been so many tragic accidents lately, it's heartbreaking! On another note, I'm definitely not understanding who made up the parking policies...such a waste of manpower & time! Instead of driving up & having to wedge in that holding pattern, why didn't they drive directly to the parking pad, one behind the other!?! They have the guys parallel parking these monsters, wtf & half the sailors are busy picking their nose or ass & NOT paying attention to the AAV! Horrible planning, horrible execution!
AMPHIBIOUS LANDING VEHICLES LIKE THIS ARE DEADLY. LET'S CONVERT THE FLEET INTO LAND-ONLY TROOP/MISSILE CARRIERS. THE ARMOR, APS, 360 AESA/SLSA RADAR SETUP, MISSILES AND ENGINE WILL ALL NEED TO BE REPLACED OR ADDED ON. IT IS FAIRLY ROOMY, BUT AMPHIB? NO, NO AND NO!
Okay - I am glad I didn't take the billet to go on an LSD ship. I see absolutely NO RESPECT for the Blue Shirts from those Marines. They ignore them. It takes the Yellow Shirt to yell at them to pay attention to the directors. Every Blue Shirt on an LSD should be matriculated to get their Air Warfare or Surface Warfare pins ASAP and included with that, pistol qualifications. People with guns just don't respect people who do not carry guns. Better yet, maybe those Marines should go on deployment without the ships. Just air-drop them, and then pick them up three months later. Is it any wonder this video is posted by AirSource?
it's more about competence than what you are calling respect. The blue shirts were a walking clusterfuck. If you look closely the yellow shit wasn't yelling at the Marines. The yellow shirt was yelling at the blue shirts.
WHY , do they move SO SLOW ? You'd think once they've been launched and retrieved they'd already KNOW where to park !!!!!!!! If , that ship was being fired upon they would have to really move their ASS !
i was both deck and engine on LCU's in the U.S.Army, in 1976-79. Both 1500 and the newer 1600 series. Jimm'ah Peanut Farmer Carter was Forcing females into the front line positions back then, and ....... Well, now , look at where we are. Females in combat positions. The great military people who serve our country THANK YOU !!!!
You’re all GENIUSES! So proud & grateful to be an American!🇺🇸
Mike 72 you’re a pathetic coward
Wow I never knew how tight shipboard conditions are! Parking those AAVs seems like some precise work
Wow the assult amphibious vehicle is to awesome!
Very awesome in to assult amphibious vehicle !
I love in to the assult amphibious vehicle!
My ship was an LST. It was a narrow ramp. We tipped over many times. Would ring our bells for sure
Which LST? I served on the USS SUMTER (LST 1181)
Oh the memories...Blast from my past. It sure beats trying to roll up on an LST in rolling heavy seas.
Ya, quite the adventure. Seen a Trac hit the end of the ship hull trying to come in and guy in commanders hatch jammed his hand against between his body and the amtracs turret as out suddenly stopped. I saw his expression when it happened. Ouch.

Cluster! Id be shit canning people fast. These squids no can do hand signals. Very important.
The LHD and LHA are so spacious inside, yet so compact when it comes to vehicles.
Nice reversing, that looks like a tight squeeze. Its a shame they scrapped the EFV programme.I would have loved to see one of those leave the ship!
Oorah fellow B company brothers. Awesome job.
I remember being in deck department at sea on an LST from little creek loading those AAVs in 1992.😁
Wow that is MUCH nicer than landing an AAV (LVTP7A1) in an old Landing Ship Tank!
+Craig Barrow LOL !!!! Ahhh come on !!! I loved the Old LST's nothing finer than being rocked in the rack on a peaceful night out at sea. Let's not even get going when the seas really get going though !!! LOL
... on the LST's you have the turn tables (LST 1193 Fairfax County) ☺

The whole ground guide team is a Charlie Foxtrot!
Gordon Miller yup
Good lord. I've never seen that much mass confusion around a 30 ton AAV.
I would like to pop that female that keeps yelling in the mouth.
Outstanding they this constructed this amphibious assault ship for the United States Navy and Marines Corps. Thank you for your service.
Phenomenal!🇺🇸
The most intense video ive watched in 2017
It was very interesting
Outfknstanding, you done good, keep it coming . Always wanted to see things like this.
@14:23- oops! I thought that driver was a bit keen when he was reversing up the ramp - Gung Ho George!
On board a ship you don't want things to move around particularly in heavy weather. So you keep things tight and lash them down. You also want to carry as much as you safely can.
Hm, real question is... Do you drive it or sail it?
You navigate it skillfully off this crazy ship of fools.
love these AAVP7 = A1 .
Could never have done this without dk 06 barking orders. Just love the military. Plugging 10 lbs in a 5 lb bag.
No need to bark orders if you know how to use hand signals. Just creates unwarranted chaos and confusion.
Would storing these vertically save space?
It's not about space , the ship has to be balanced or it will list to one side . I spent two tours with this unit when I was in the Corps .

Holy crap you were on Newport class lst's? That's neat. Too bad there all retired. :(

CplSki USMC Thanks for sharing your story sir.its a shame we retired them all. Now all we got are lhds lpds and lsds
I thank you for ur service sir ur a big help
Bob Maxwell Thank you Bob.
Must bea funny feeling going from the deck of the ship to going plop into the sea.
Ears pop. Also sea sickness is a big issue. Poor ventilation and cramped with 25 Marines in there. Knock yourself out
I knew someone was going to screw up. And how come those sailors just stood there watching and didn't saying anything when the AAV was getting too close.

Yes
Yes,they do.

That has got to be better than working in a factory.
It was the best and worst job I've ever had.
How come non are fitted with EAAK.
YO!! Former USMC 1811 here....what is UP with those ground guides?!???! TC needs some work, too....
I still remember how fun that was lol. I can still smell all the fumes!! Organized chaos!!
Yat-Yas 94 to 98! CCo, 2/6 CLNC. USS WHIDBEY ISLAND LSD 41. Ooh Rah
Uss Pearl Harbor! Are there any other us navy vessels named for a defeat?
I found one other the guided missile cruiser USS Chancellorsville.....
these sailors and deck crews need to be far faster than this -- ten min at tops
Not so much faster but at least get your hand signals in order. They are real bad.
@@comm2531 True dat. The female could screw up a two car funeral with all the yelling.
For assault operations, isn't it better and faster the helicópters, than the beautiful but slow AAV7's?
Report writing is the key to discipline of none commission personal! Dr Dent astrophysicist Rocketeledyne owner.
That got to be the slowest moving craft ever. In time of war, this is more of a liability than assets... ha ha
interesting but i see a lot of the ground crew dont care about thier ears . no ear protedtion and why arent they wearing high visibilty vests in that enviroment
They should have drove it nose first , then neutral steer to park it.
just paint some lines on the floor.Hey dude just follow the lines.
14:10 Andrzej się wkurzy.
That's what I call a "clusterfuck"
I don't know if I would want to be in that landing craft
Nice driving at 14:26 lol

Army guys must be a little jealous. When they get their Bradleys and Strykers back home, they still have to hit the carwash for a cleanup.
