Th online compromise is actually brilliant. No lag this way, and you are still playing along side friends, you each are playing the level together, they just removed the being able to mess with each other which is a great thing. You can play along side each other and only help each other, no causing bs rage. That's a smart play. Krysta's argument is invalid when she says "I don't want to be a ghost to you." A level of transparency on your character model doesn't really change what's going on. If you weren't see through the same thing would happen...You are still there playing along. Just this way everyone is playing on their own screen without the game lagging. A smart move from the devs.
One of the reasons I really like the "subtle connection" idea for online play, is I like having the course being just for me, like nobody can just run ahead and screw me over, or defeat enemies for me and making me feel like I didn't really get the level of challenge I'm looking for. That being said the online they showed off here looks really really fun to me because I get my own instance of the course, while still being able to play with friends. We're playing at the same time, can see each other, and even can help each other when we die. And on top of that, I can play as Toadette or someone and my friend can choose a Yoshi if they are less confident with their abilities, and we have separate experiences curated to the risk level we want while playing together and having fun. It just looks super accessible and customizable and I've never been this hyped for a 2d mario game haha
The Yoshis being the "easy" mode makes me a little sad, but I'm gonna play him all the way regardless. 😂 However my 3 year old who loves Yoshi will now get to play as him and be less frustrated. I cannot wait to play with my son this game. He was very excited watching this Direct.
The only thing I felt was missing, maybe intentionally (?) was no look at any of the boss battles. I think they just showed one. But I am very hype for this!
Yeahhh. In both the reveal trailer and this Direct, we've only really seen that "Wonder-fied" Bowser Jr. I just hope it doesn't end up being just Koopalings again aside from that.
Kit and Krysta, I found your podcast on Spotify about two weeks sgo, and I've been listening to your latest episodes as well as some notable ones like when you had Reggie on! I had no idea you two left Nintendo after they closed the office. Your podcast literally got me through the last few weeks of work, I have had an incredibly monotonous task to do for 10 hours a day, and if it wasn't for finding you guys on Spotify, I do not know how I would have survived. Definitely worth the excitement! Good presentation with somethings that were missed out (Ex: Amiibo Support, Online Companion). Daisy and Nabbit being added to the game. Super Mario Bros Wonder is gonna blow our minds. It's likely I'm gonna get the game in November since I'm still working on XC 3 and Wii Party. I believe the Nintendo Direct might give us a short promo for Super Mario Bros Wonder, someday we haven't seen it yet hopefully. Enjoy PAX West Kit and Krysta. Loved the powerups and Elephant Mario riding on Yoshi 🤣
This Direct really showed a lot of really elegant design innovations for the 2D Platformer, I'm really excited! Badges to give a bit of personalization that gives a kind of Sonic like modality to the gameplay and level design, and the online is a truly elegant solution to the problems with multiplayer platforming that Nintendo introduced in the first place with New Super Mario Bros Wii!

At 6:50 Krysta's visceral reaction to Elephant Peach was pretty funny. Game looks really good! Only downsides to me is that Yoshi and Nabbit being easy mode feels like a step too far; I'd rather just make that a toggle than force that onto a character.
