It's about a woman who was thaught to act perfect and fine whatever she is feeling inside. She lives her life following that rule, trying to ignore all her feelings and waiting for everything to get better by itself. But the video also shows her real feelings, how she feels and how she acts. It's about all the poor hearts who live their life according to what they were thaught and "letting" every one of their true feelings "go". Living day after day hoping for the better days to come. The kitchen represents her duties, her skills and her image. The husband in the bedroom represents her loveless relationships and probably her fake friendships too. The scene in the diningroom represents her public and social life. Them eating money means, that the friendship (or their friendships in general) is just about how rich the other person is and how high their social status is (so it's not about companionship or affection). The whole thing is about the total nightmare a lot of people are living. Life can get that meaningless.
@Esau T Not at all. I've looked into both lyrics and video and I think they make perfectly sense together. My interpretetion is definitely reffering to both.
Mistery I'm not saying you're wrong far from it as it's open to interpretation and opinion, but I personally think it's more about materialism and how fake society is. Thanks for replying by the way. Hope I don't come off as being mean.
+Marisa Britt yeh and whenever i tell people about this song the start singing the Frozen lyrics and I'm just staring at them like "you overly mainstream overrated bitch".
+Marisa Britt I know two different "Let It Go"s other then the Frozen one, and when I have one of them stuck in my song, they think look at me like I'm a little kid when i tell them its Let It Go lol
Honestly, this song Is helping me make the best decision of my life. No more hating myself because of you. No catering to you. No more endless nights in bed alone, waiting for you to join me. I'm tired of pretending to be happy. Pretending I don't see everything that's wrong. I'm ready to be happy. Without you.
this, this deep and beautiful masterpiece, deserves over 500 million views like man this is why i love the nbhd they actually make music videos that have to do with the song's story unlike most mainstream overrated music videos today
Probably one of my favourite music videos, quite honestly. First of all, it actually resembles the song and what it's about. And secondly, it's meaningful. The message is interesting, and the video is captivating.
I think this represents the way that people act fine when they're in front of you, but in the night when they're alone, they reveal how they really feel.
What I absolutely adore about this music video is it shows how someone can seem happy, optimistic, perfect, etc. on the outside...but on the inside they can have a complete war going on, and in the end, they just have to let it go. At least this is what it means to me and I can really relate, I love the neighborhood, they have some great and meaningful music.
I love this video, probably more than I like the song. It's crazy how effective it is to change the color of the letterbox when it shows her true feelings.
this video is really sad but it just gives me chills because its almost kind of scary but its most of peoples realities theses days. Having to act perfect for the sake of being accepted by society but killing themselves in the process
this video is showing that not everyone you see smiling is happy....until you see things from the person's point of view you'll never understand...👏👏👏👏👏
I like when normal people realize how empty they are. When they realize they've been living a lie. Whether they get better or go bad, it really is the choice. Nobody ever lets go.
0:38 was terrifying when I first saw it. I knew the video wasn't going to be that happy the whole time, but it was a very abrupt transition. I love how this group can evoke and portray so much emotion, even with the greyscale. The whole video, and song, were truly haunting. I'm loving this group so far!
This song is so good. The meaning of the song is cleared up by the song which I personally think is " don't judge a book( person) by its cover(appearance), instead look closer At the book (person) and see what it's really about (see what a person is on the inside)"
I swear, I listened to this song like a while ago, and when I heard it on the Originals, I legit screamed and replayed the scene over and over again. :) Love the Neighbourhood!
Feral Equinox Exactly, people always do that. They simply compare songs because they have the same name. For a while people were comparing two songs called In The End even though they were very different.
She has to pretend and hide behind a mask to meet the expectations of the stereotypical rich house wife but behind that mask she's struggling and hurting and just wants to break free. kinda shows how women always have to try hard to wear makeup and do their hair nice and put so much effort into their image just to fit the standards of the word "woman". bc w/o those masks women hide behind, comes judgment and insecurity. be yourself, love yourself
I think It sounds like she wanted to do something with her life like get a job but when she brought it up she was told it was a stupid idea and that she should just marry a successful man but now it's like 5-10 years later and regrets the choice idk it's because the video looked like the 50's or 60's so it made sense to me
Yasmin Barcelos so basically, it's like the song dollhouse by melanie martinez if you've ever heard that. the woman and her husband act so perfect, but this lifestyle is slowly driving her insane. and eventually, she can't take it anymore, and she starts to completely lose it. or at least that's my take on it.
This is exactly why I love the neighbourhood. I love the part when she takes off her glasses and shows us what she sees. It shows people need to open their eyes and see the monster of humanity. Humans.
LYRICS! I'm from a little city with expensive taste Where the cars don't run until the engine breaks Wasn't spending pennies on massive things But invested in mess with this recipe Couldn't quite see what the future held And as days went by it would tell itself Let it struggle just a little bit more Let it struggle just a little bit more Remember what the people said Remember what the people said When it's said and done, let it go Remember what the people said Remember what the people said When it's said and done, let it go Shouldn't try to fix it if it keeps getting better Just let it go, forget it for ever and ever and ever Don't ever resent a letter inside a single word written A little change can play lanes with the right vision Couldn't tell what would happen next But as weeks went by look what turned to best Let it struggle just a little more Let it struggle just a little bit more, mm hm Remember what the people said Remember what the people said When it's said and done, let it go Remember what the people said Remember what the people said When it's said and done, let it go If what they said was all pretend then it'd be different If it depended on if anyone was listening And I was listening And when they said that what I wanted was a figment I had to turn the other cheek but I was listening Yeah I was listening, listening to all Remember what the people said Remember what the people said When it's said and done, let it go Remember what the people said Remember what the people said When it's said and done, let it go Remember what the people said Remember what the people said I wasn't listening I wasn't listening, listening at all Remember what the people said Remember what the people said Oh I wasn't listening I wasn't listening, listening at all (at all at all at all ) At all, at all
Happy mother's day to all mothers that have to go through with all this suffering. I do hope you all manage to get out of this mess, because you deserve the best! I say this because my mom went through the same, and our entire family knows how difficult it is, then again, once more: Happy mother's day, brave women *-*
I love this video so much because to me it was the director showing the role of women in the 1950's in America. Basically there was a thing called "the Good Wifes Guide" which was basically had a set of expectations that women were supposed to live up to. Such as the female actor in the video shows she's tending to her husbands every needs and is so happy but on the inside she hates it. That's basically how women were living in the 1950s and back then most women conformed to these social expectations so they wouldn't be seen as outsiders. I love this video so much because it feel like it depicts the 1950s perfectly because how women were expected to live back then was ridiculous. Anyways, anyone else think of this when they were watching the video?
Oh and I also thought it was the 1950s because all the scenes showed items from back then such as the old schooled radio player and kitchen appliances and basically everything haha. Oh and the money part. Back in the 1950s they had inflation because of a bunch of factors ( lasting consequences of WW2, the Korean war, Eisenhower policies to help the economy and regulate it). Inflation essentially meant that there was a looot more money in circulation than a healthy economy should have had. So with the men stuffing their faces with money, I think it was representing the economic situation of the 1950's.
Also! More commentary yay! (Haha doubt anyone's gonna read this but I'll go on anyways!) A lot of women in the 950's felt unsatisfied with their lives because they were expected to only live basically as laves to their husbands and caring after the house and their children. When the lady in the video puts the glasses onto the screen I think it was representing women trying to show men that they hated how they were expected to live. Lots of women didn't voice their opinions though and so the video is showing females inner turmoil about what they were expected to do and what they wanted to do.
no..... actually i thought it was about how rich people drown in their money and never realize what other people have to do to make a living. the woman in the video was like a housekeeper or something, and she was tending to the man so that she would get more money. and also there was a rich young woman at the dinner table, so it is definitely not about women, it is about poverty. in my opinion.
This is a track from the California-based collective The Neighborhood's EP Thank You. Lead singer Jesse Rutherford explained the song's meaning to Spinner: "The song is about letting things go and letting things roll off your back," he said. "I think it's something we have to learn as human beings - the ability to take something negative in, digest it, and move on. It doesn't mean to forget about it. It doesn't mean let it take you over. Just living with it and functioning still."
This presents how not everyone is contempt and hide behind a facade, the housewife is a good metaphor for this as people in conjugal family roles were perceived as happy in the 50s, yet later on to be revealed as to May have a dark side
I think that the video is about the people. We always have our best face to everyone trying to be kind and that stuff but really inside us is the oppositive like, we are in saddness and depresion or something like that but just to make happy the others we use the mask of the smile to be good. Finally, I think we are superficial.
I found the neighbourhood with this song years ago, and im so happy that i do it, they became my favorite band, i want to back to that times when i was happier, the years pass and the life just gets harder): Thanks for making my life better the neighbourhood, my favorite band forever
I listen to this like 5 or so years ago and then lost it and I’ve been trying sooo hard to remember what it was called or what it was about I just remembered the music video. I’m so glad I found it!!!
Aisya Hobo Maybe it's a mix of both? So she's acting like everything is perfect, when really she's in pain. She acts like everything between her husband and her are great when really she hates their relationship (by the looks of it, it may be a one sided relationship but idk). Then the part at the dinner and they eat the money would be that in order to fit into society you need to have money to give you happiness, but it doesn't really make her life fullfilling. (?)
this band is art
your profile pic though XD
Like Jimin voice.
AAAAAAAAAAAA ur PPIC

Wow! So interesting! 😱👏👏👏
xeroqui rolmes
Mistery You're looking too much into the video rather than the lyrics themselves.
If "I'm fine" was a music video

+Marisa Britt I know two different "Let It Go"s other then the Frozen one, and when I have one of them stuck in my song, they think look at me like I'm a little kid when i tell them its Let It Go lol

why cant all music videos have deep meanings like The Neighbourhood?
Because this would be a stupid thing
Less clickbait, less popular music, not enough people with decent taste in music.. Less money in short terms
Damn......
***** well sayed
+Mya Lyons don't get me wrong I love tøp but this was made in 2012
We need more music videos like this.
Hey pham

This is the real let it go. Not those other shitty songs named let it go
Agreed

+Mike van Holsteijn he was referring to frozen actually XD
really? Oh I thought he meant this video by 'the real let it go'
True!
Very brave of you, I wish you the best (:
Respect :)
Very wise :3
That is truly inspiring! I wish you the best! :D
Thats exactly the same reason for me too!!
They did much better than Elsa :)
+Acquaintance lol
+Acquaintance i know right

I cannot like this comment enough.
You mean... Elsa did worse than Neighbourhood, right?
this, this deep and beautiful masterpiece, deserves over 500 million views like man this is why i love the nbhd they actually make music videos that have to do with the song's story unlike most mainstream overrated music videos today
*Cough* Hipster
+Jacob Petrie *cough* you're irrelevant
+Breanna Jewel Smith cough let's just enjoy these awesome artists
Nathalie Leget that's my point lol
Stephanie, can you explain to me how this is a beautiful masterpiece that deserves over 500 million views?
Probably one of my favourite music videos, quite honestly. First of all, it actually resembles the song and what it's about. And secondly, it's meaningful. The message is interesting, and the video is captivating.
Right I love this message in this video! It's completely 180 from the others
so many people see world trough her eyes but they just play along with modern thinking. i know because i am one of them, and that is sad.
James Bay- Let it go
Demi Lovato- Let it go
Avril Lavigne- Let it go
Elsa- Let it go
The Neighbourhood- Let it go
I LOVE JAMES BAY
THE NEIGHBOURHOOD
AND AVRIL LAVIGNE
BUT THE REST........
And this is the best, to be honest. I mean, James Bay is good, but this is art to me.
And Birdy ft. Rhodes-Let it go :)
Yes and Birdy to :)
Elsa and demi lovato is the same person Lol
I think this represents the way that people act fine when they're in front of you, but in the night when they're alone, they reveal how they really feel.

Megan Campbell it reminds me of Britney spears. K it looks like a front too tho. Summary. The female who gets bored w/ typical sh
I love this video, probably more than I like the song.
It's crazy how effective it is to change the color of the letterbox when it shows her true feelings.
It's a masterpiece
this video is really sad but it just gives me chills because its almost kind of scary but its most of peoples realities theses days. Having to act perfect for the sake of being accepted by society but killing themselves in the process
Why dont you try listening to "How to Disappear Completely" by Radiohead or "Crown of Love" by Arcade fire
this video is showing that not everyone you see smiling is happy....until you see things from the person's point of view you'll never understand...👏👏👏👏👏
amen to that
+Onica Durant i just feel that comment inside me. thanks god someone else understands
+Juanita Villegas yes ikr 😊😊
yup
yes.👍👏
Such a powerful video. Never judge people from appearances. Try walk a mile in their shoes and see what's behind what they show the outside world
Nice
But what if i dont want to walk a mile? (i Know its a metaphor but seriously a mile?)
Vicky Vu it isn't that far, man up.
FastestFinalFurlong Why wouldn't you woman up? Huh?
I have no clue what you're on about, and also I walk my horse 1 mile down to the field and walk 1 mile back so jokes on you.
Good example of how you look versus how you feel, or expectation versus reality
Your profile Picture is so hawt c:
2:47 I get the chills every fricken time XD
same tbh
same
This music video does say something about society.
This video is the true embodiment of the phrase "I'm fine."
I dont get why people dislike this song, havn't seen the movie yet but this frozen song is amazing.
ahAha... yeah the movie...
💀
I got so many chills from this song...this is deep
Have you heard "How to disappear completely" by Radiohead
Its my favorite song
I used to listen to this a lot when I was 11 or something and listening to it now, younger self, you did not have a completely shitty taste in music.
I'm 11 now!
PS Hi fellow Black Butler/Kuroshitsuji fan! I'm obsessed with Ciel!
I wish I could say that to my 11 year old self
I love seeing normal people go crazy.
You are now my good friend, Sarah. :)
2:25 & other parts almost looks like a s.club. I'm prob not normal tho. Ok I'm not
Sarah Bennett yeah normal people... It gave me chils befor than knowing they would go crazy
I like when normal people realize how empty they are. When they realize they've been living a lie. Whether they get better or go bad, it really is the choice. Nobody ever lets go.
Being normal is an ilness. And the scenes of the video... absolute reality and it sucks. When U let it go of it... best thing ever!
0:38 was terrifying when I first saw it. I knew the video wasn't going to be that happy the whole time, but it was a very abrupt transition. I love how this group can evoke and portray so much emotion, even with the greyscale. The whole video, and song, were truly haunting. I'm loving this group so far!
definition of "im fine"
That annoying moment when you search "Let It Go" but Frozen results show up instead of The Neighbourhood.
EXACTLY
still it's only a moment.
2:22 - 2:33 Me playing monopoly
Omfg 😂😂😂
hahahahaha yeeeesss!!!
Be like: I'm rich muthafuckas xDD
Ms_Otaku ʕ ́•ᴥ•`ʔ you know
XDDD
This song is so good. The meaning of the song is cleared up by the song which I personally think is " don't judge a book( person) by its cover(appearance), instead look closer At the book (person) and see what it's really about (see what a person is on the inside)"
Not exactly.
The lyrics and the visuals to this song are so deep!
I swear, I listened to this song like a while ago, and when I heard it on the Originals, I legit screamed and replayed the scene over and over again. :) Love the Neighbourhood!
This video is perfect. True. We all hide our real feelings behind a fake smile.
this was the deepest shit i had ever seen when i was 15
This video scares the crap out of me 😪 and im watching this alone, at night.
This is a very powerful message, very artful too
The Originals!
Omg same
+Felix Targaryen yaaaaas
ah nao
hayy lmao this comment wasn't meant for you or anyone else, It was stating that I came here because of the originals
ata
a fake smile will never cure your broken heart...
Even if I loved Frozen, I prefer this Let It Go over the one from the movie.
They are completely different songs that happen to have the same name. You can't really compare them, but this one is superior in originality terms.
Piss off.
Feral Equinox Exactly, people always do that. They simply compare songs because they have the same name. For a while people were comparing two songs called In The End even though they were very different.
Same.....I HATE FORZEN
Feral Equinox sarcasm, ever heard of it ?
This is art
I hate the frozen cover of this song! It sounds so... Different!
yeah this new drug called 'Sarcasmeth'
😂😂😂
Nikel Martz omfg yes
true asf.
This song, "The Neighbourhood - Let it go", came out WAY BEFORE FROZEN DID.
that cinematography though>>>
I think I relate to this on an emotional level.
The only "Let it go" song that worth it!

thank you for that explanation cause I was confused
some people would see this and say 'what the hell?? this is so weird!!' and when I see it I'm like 'oh dude this shit is deep'
same
Can you explain it to me? I understend english better reading than listening... I'm from Brasil
+Cherry Bomb thaaaanks! It makes só much sense Now... 💗
Yasmin Barcelos of couse :)
This is exactly why I love the neighbourhood. I love the part when she takes off her glasses and shows us what she sees. It shows people need to open their eyes and see the monster of humanity. Humans.
when you're broke and your friends are spending their money in front of you
reminds me of Ain't no rest for the wicked
yup. this is my favorite band now...
you guys need to watch this...its scary, but pretty much reality for a lot of women in various places...
LYRICS!
I'm from a little city with expensive taste
Where the cars don't run until the engine breaks
Wasn't spending pennies on massive things
But invested in mess with this recipe
Couldn't quite see what the future held
And as days went by it would tell itself
Let it struggle just a little bit more
Let it struggle just a little bit more
Remember what the people said
Remember what the people said
When it's said and done, let it go
Remember what the people said
Remember what the people said
When it's said and done, let it go
Shouldn't try to fix it if it keeps getting better
Just let it go, forget it for ever and ever and ever
Don't ever resent a letter inside a single word written
A little change can play lanes with the right vision
Couldn't tell what would happen next
But as weeks went by look what turned to best
Let it struggle just a little more
Let it struggle just a little bit more, mm hm
Remember what the people said
Remember what the people said
When it's said and done, let it go
Remember what the people said
Remember what the people said
When it's said and done, let it go
If what they said was all pretend then it'd be different
If it depended on if anyone was listening
And I was listening
And when they said that what I wanted was a figment
I had to turn the other cheek but I was listening
Yeah I was listening, listening to all
Remember what the people said
Remember what the people said
When it's said and done, let it go
Remember what the people said
Remember what the people said
When it's said and done, let it go
Remember what the people said
Remember what the people said
I wasn't listening
I wasn't listening, listening at all
Remember what the people said
Remember what the people said
Oh I wasn't listening
I wasn't listening, listening at all (at all at all at all )
At all, at all
The Originals! HELL YEAH!
This clip is just, just amazing
More relevant now then ever. Amazing video. Social media is a lie
The Originals brought me here! ♥
This is much better than that frozen song.
FR
Favorite of the whole album
Happy mother's day to all mothers that have to go through with all this suffering. I do hope you all manage to get out of this mess, because you deserve the best! Sarah G wow I read n I think you could put on a lil bit more words lol. But hey I read it
no..... actually i thought it was about how rich people drown in their money and never realize what other people have to do to make a living. the woman in the video was like a housekeeper or something, and she was tending to the man so that she would get more money. and also there was a rich young woman at the dinner table, so it is definitely not about women, it is about poverty. in my opinion.
Nope, sorry
Yes the originals brough me here, again because i already knew this song, this band is great

My very new crush song!!!
Really love how the video was made. It's so expressive and cleverI simply adore the intensity in all their songs
I frikin love this song
This will never come back. What an era it was
the best time of the band
the originals...... oh yaaaaaa
can't forget my first ever favorite song by the neighborhood
Wow I actually love this video so much
Great song
This presents how not everyone is contempt and hide behind a facade, the housewife is a good metaphor for this as people in conjugal family roles were perceived as happy in the 50s, yet later on to be revealed as to May have a dark side
CANT HOLD YOU BACK ANYMOREEEE
the fuck
Please stfu
fake smiles lead to much more....
video is pure art xx
This is what I call Art
Probably the best let it go i have ever heard
I think that the video is about the people. We always have our best face to everyone trying to be kind and that stuff but really inside us is the oppositive like, we are in saddness and depresion or something like that but just to make happy the others we use the mask of the smile to be good. Finally, I think we are superficial.
the nbhd is art, this video is such a hard critic on the system. I love stanning legends.
I found the neighbourhood with this song years ago, and im so happy that i do it, they became my favorite band, i want to back to that times when i was happier, the years pass and the life just gets harder):
Thanks for making my life better the neighbourhood, my favorite band forever
Perfect dress, perfect hair, perfect smile.
And inside, another person hides.

This video scares me, but i loooooooove this song.
Idk anymore I just love the neighbourhood so much and this music video captures every aspect of the song. They're literally so talented.
I used to listen to it religiously
I listen to this like 5 or so years ago and then lost it and I’ve been trying sooo hard to remember what it was called or what it was about I just remembered the music video. I’m so glad I found it!!!

The neighbourhood is so perfect 🤍
I love this video it reminds me of Numb by Linkin Park
same!
so true!
same omg
it does kinda
Now when somebody says "Let It Go" I don't think of Frozen anymore. ^.^
I Do .. lol
santa cluaz Lmao
jus love it, so dark, so perfect.
I think the video is saying money can't make you happy
Ja Think?
Really I think it's about how u can't put a fake smile on to make everything better
XabovecloudX I agree, I think it's about not hiding your true emotions and faking a smile. To "let it go" like let people know how you truely feel
Jamie Allen I agree too but what about the part when they drink and eat money?
Aisya Hobo Maybe it's a mix of both? So she's acting like everything is perfect, when really she's in pain. She acts like everything between her husband and her are great when really she hates their relationship (by the looks of it, it may be a one sided relationship but idk). Then the part at the dinner and they eat the money would be that in order to fit into society you need to have money to give you happiness, but it doesn't really make her life fullfilling. (?)
Let us all take a moment and appreciate this woman's acting skills...
