The good thing about having a siren is that the whole town knows what's going on and are vigilant for crews turning in.
My town has one and we also have a 5g tower that sounds the alarm aswell

don't you get it it's all volunteer fire service the sirens is there to be used as a call out to the volunteers of the station
This siren does the same as kerikeri kaitaia and most Northland stations with the long sound of the siren
They're all ex-london ww2 air raid sirens
My Grandad & his brother used to live 100m from the Kawakawa Fire Station. Then a few years back my cousin moved into the house & was a volly for Kawakawa FS. Instead of running along the train tracks,he'd drive! I lived in Huntly & Taumarunui,always would get goosebumps hearing the siren going

I don't know what they are going to do with it but the Jackson Michigan Fire Department is getting a 2018 Pierce ladder truck soon and there is a possibility that their current ladder truck might be available for purchase. It's a 1995 Pierce ladder truck with a Series 60 Detroit and I believe a 5 speed Allison automatic.

It is not a department it is a Fire and Emergency New Zealand station

Far to much noise siren only needs sounding for 30 seconds like Lancashire’s UK. till 1973 then we got pocket alerters
Different rules in NZ. They use long attack at some fire stations and the classic air raid style attack at other stations. Its just how it is over there
We have pagere but they aren't always 100% reliable so they have the siren as a backup
This is a rural community, as is most of NZ. Pagers are not 100% reliable. They are going to help someone else in an emergency, which is far more important than your selfish issue of a little bit of noise.
I love this and other sirens in NZ and the UK. I love this siren as it has that long attack like the tsunami sirens in wellington and the X flood sirens in essex uk and Lincoln uk. They need the siren to sound longer. Its just how it is in NZ but I like the classic code red attack signal like they have in calderdale UK for floods and at other NZ stations and I am from the uk

+Alex The Canuck Its actually the same style as the old british air-raid sirens and this being a volunteer station is used along with pagers to call people in. almost all volunteer stations in new zealand have them. very effective
But it's so loud, doesn't the whole city here them? I don't see why they can't just have an electronic sound over the spakers and then a robot call them out.
some people can live several km from the station (as i do in my hometown where i volunteer) and in many areas there is no cellphone coverage. yes most of the town will be able to hear them but it means wherever they are they are able to be called. the sirens are normally on some sort of timer, and have a pattern where the sound winds up and down. our one only does that 3 times but used to go continuously until someone turned it off. in cities they have the professional fire-station which do not use these sirens and instead have staff on duty all the time. carterton is only a town of 5000 people
+Power Boat yes, they use them in the U.S. A LOT, and if in a small town, they use horns. i didnt know they used it in Europe.
