@@ponchlocz6609 you are right; the 'Day to day' aproach is mentaly the honest and simple. But what helped me more was to make "the change" really big. So I went to a lot of meetings. I even went to so far as to go to Schotland with my 'buddy'/'sponsor' to visit 8 shares a Day. I decided to not make this life changing event as something I would do on the side. I quit work for three hole months, and Iet the depression just enter me. Because in the beginning (with me at least) you feel a lot of UPS and downs. UPS because you didn't drink a hole Day, downs because all the mess you made and all the stuff you need to deal with...sober. The boredome, the truth etc. If there is one thing I would say (even though as a AA member we arent alloud to preach too much) is avoid trying to change everything at once..it will give you stress and you will be ending up drinking again. Don't try to fix all the mess you made...you have your hole life. Just dont drink today..dont do too much and deal with all the emotions sober.

I'm struggling to get back into my sobriety. I'm a life long fuck up and drugs and alcohol has consumed me since I was 14 (I'm 29 now). The happiest, best version of me is when I'm sober. Like disgustingly sober. Nothing, not even caffeine, purely just me. That's when I'm having the most fun, feel most like myself, when I'm the freest. It's not fun drinking. It's not fun being drunk all the time, doing drugs. Some times you have fun being drunk, but if you're really drinking heavily every day those "fun" times become increasingly rare. You're not really having fun. It's not fun to forget conversations, things you did, pass out every night from being overly intoxicated. I have the best times and am so fucking happy when I'm sober.
I've put myself in a really shitty spot again and spiraled back into heavy daily drinking and cocaine use. I'm not fucking staying in it though. Addiction is powerful. I let one moment of weakness turn into 3 months of spending all my money and free time drinking and doing drugs. I know better than anyone about self sabotage and suffering. You don't have to live that way and you can get out of it. There's such a better life and it's not boring being sober. You choose if you're having fun or being creative not a drink or drugs. Anyone struggling please reach out for help. You're fucking worth it.

5 year clean ex-opiate addict here (Hydromorphone was my DOC) The empty space created by going sober is worse then the cravings, worse then the withdrawals, worse then missing the feeling. The thought of "wow this is dull, I wish I could be doing this while high" permeates your thoughts. I was lucky enough to get away from people using that garbage, got away from the people selling it and started to build routines and moved on from it. Slowly the obsessive thoughts went away and I'm able to go months without so much as thinking about it.

I think it's kinda safe to say that Rusty being an alcoholic is a pretty memorable part of his personality. I had a whole pack of cigs the other night and was contemplating even opening them. Then a family friend was asking for a cig and I just gave it to him. Big moment for me. There have been times where I tried to stop and I would see a forgotten cig in an ash tray and give in and finish it. I really hope I can have the self control to avoid temptation in the future. Good luck to anyone else trying to quit ❤️

I'm 24 days in man, keep it up, I'm choosing not to drink ever again because it does nothing for me anymore, I use to self medicate with it everyday for several years to help my anxiety, depression, not feeling good, multiple hospital trips, withdrawals etc, I thought it was the cure for everything, it took me a long time to realize it but it's just not worth a single drink to me, my problem is that I can't stop drinking until I black out, alot of the times I'd get an invite to the pub to have a sociable 6 beers or so and everyone would be good and fine and then I'd be the one to go home and drink my entire fridge out and be sick for 3-4 days straight, it was a never ending cycle, it fucked up my eating schedule, my sleeping schedule, everything, disappointed friends and family, missed out on alot of things because I was simply just to hungover to go, if you can keep up 30 days what's the point of starting back up again?, I think alcohol in general is just stupid man, you waste money on it "THINK" that you have a good time while drunk and then piss it out later and forget what you did the other night anyway, sure that may be fun but it's not fun lying in the hospital with liver failure later on in life but for those of you out there that can enjoy a sociable drink then all the power to ya just don't let it consume your life and health.

Since then it has been 45 days and I had 8 drinks total. Each drink only had two oz of liquor.

I come from a family that was and is riddled with addiction. My father, uncle and aunt all died due to alcoholism. It created dynamics and shaped how my entire family deals with problems and how we interact each other. As much ad my mum managed to put a stick to the wheels of this system quite a while back, it left scars and patterns of thought that I deal with as an adult still. I used to be very angry at and hurt by my father and as a young child it's hard to accept or understand the struggles addiction brings. Addictions always affect more than just the ones actively addicted, they shape everyone around it. What you did there deserves a whole lot of respect and will not only enrich your own life but that of many others.
As for me, you've helped me understand my father's struggle better and to accept some things that I carry around that were caused by his illness. Thank you.

I recently did a six month sober challenge. I work a seasonal job, so the six months was just a “one contract without drinking” challenge so to speak. It was not nearly as hard as quitting smoking weed, which I did a few years ago. Never smoked since. I found found myself along this no drinking challenge being the most productive I have ever been, being COMPLETELY sober. I injured my knee at a concert in the mosh pit pretty bad, and to cope with the pain, I made the haste and haphazard decision to start drinking again, simply to go to sleep amidst the pain (painkillers are worse to me than anything, I’ve never taken one in my life). And since then I’ve been casually, and I mean cASuaLlY drinking every now and then. But I always look back on the sober days, pre-knee injury as the most productive days of my life. I hope to get back there one day, one day very soon.

I feel like a lot of people don't understand how much of an accomplishment to go 30 DAYS SOBER automatically. Like that is actually so fucking hard and I look up to you for that... seriously. I know it's not a strong one, but I myself have been a bit dependant on weed and that itself has taken its toll on me. I can't imagine what its like with alcohol. Seriously, I'm very proud of you, and you took it like a mf champ and went through it. When I say an inspiration, I genuinely mean it, like sometimes I cant even go 2 days without a smoke. but a whole 30 days? props to you.
I don't usually watch your videos, but thank you for giving me the motivation to stop my habits too. I hate the comedown of getting high off weed and the hangovers the day after (drinking). That itching feeling of needing more, is the worst
Edit: 50:00 that stuff you were talking about was straight up FAX. oh my god, you have no clue how many times I would compare myself to others with similar habits as mine and I didn't even realize how ridiculous I myself have been sounding. Who am I to judge someone elses habits based on mines? And how can I say "damn, they drink more than me, therefore I must not have that bad of an addiction..." because you can get addicted to something on any sort of dosage. Weather its big or small, its never a competition. And those words you spoke literally opened my mind. Thank you for doing this, it helped me understand more about myself and some tactics and ways I myself can maybe one day overcome my smoking habits. I wish you nothing but the best Rusty, rock on and keep up the phenomenal content :)

Powerful realness here, Rusty. My last day of drinking alcohol was 4/17/2020. It’s been hard, I miss cocktails and wine quite a lot sometimes, but the hardest part has been that I no longer have my go-to escape pod, the bottle of wine, a Juice fueled rocket ship, that I was using to fly far away from my difficult emotions. Correct, if you get caught in possession of a firearm whilst under influence, you will be in a heap of trouble in most US states.
"It is almost always a crime to possess a firearm while under the influence of alcohol or any controlled substance. Many states also prohibit people from carrying a firearm into establishments that serve liquor (such as bars and nightclubs), even with a concealed carry permit, and even if you are not drinking."
It's a good way to lose your gun rights. For instance, in Tennessee under 39-17-1321, it's a Class A misdemeanour. However, in Delaware this can escalate into felony:
"(2) Possession of a firearm while under the influence is a class G felony if the conviction is for an offense that was committed after a previous conviction for possession of a firearm while under the influence."
Convicted felons lose their 2nd Amendment rights even if they have served their time unless their records get expunged.
Don't drink/do drugs with guns around. Definitely don't film yourself in such a situation. And absolutely do not listen to some retards saying "hurr durr, it's America, they can buy McNukes over there".
