Ive got the 2015 early 13" Macbook Pro and I still love it. It was getting a little tired, but a few simple upgrades I did myself (iFixit) completely refreshed this device. I've upgraded the battery $65 (old one was getting swollen) the storage to 2TB $120, new cooling fan $20, and WiFi Bluetooth card (was a little flakey) $30. I also run 3 external monitors with the StarTech USB A to HDMI active dongle $90 and I'm very happy with my refreshed Macbook Pro.
I bought a well-used 2015 back in 2021 instead of my 2011 Macbook Pro that I had insan SSD in. The screen on the 2011 wasn’t good enough and the 2015 has the Retina screen, so a nice upgrade. After a week, the cable that runs over the batteries died. I ordered a new cable for which the person I bought the MacBook from paid 2/3rd, and it worked fine. At the same time I ordered an adapter so I could buy a bigger and cheaper nvme ssd and installed those. I have just reinstalled Monterey on it and it works great. I did notice a small swelling in the batteries but have listed it up for sale and some interest already.
Dude it’s not about wanting or liking old tech it’s just the only thing remotely affordable in todays economy. No one has 1600 to spend on a new MacBook.
Great vid. I picked up a 15" MacBook Pro 2015 about a month ago mostly for work and also using it for recording purposes. 16gb of RAM, SSD is 256gb and I love it so far. It does what I want and more. I think similar to you previous video, this is also my first Apple device. Still adjusting to MacOS and I still like Windows, but would love a weird medium between the two with all the strong points. But overall, I think I'd definitely go with a MacBook again, preferably 2015 model but willing to try other models. Over the last year I've been more into sustainability in terms of mobile devices and so on, so it's awesome to see other people giving old tech new life.
Wow. It's astonishing how alike we think. I am also all about sustainability and using technology for as long as possible and the 2015 MB Pro is a great example. A battery replacement makes it a great long-term device. Thank you for watching and leaving a comment! 😇

For what it's worth, although I have a very recent Mac Pro (7,1), the 2 computers that I use daily for itteraly 99% of what I do are a 2010 Mac Pro (5,1) running Sonoma, as well as a 2013 27" iMac also running Sonoma. And they are still awesome and more than enough in 2024.
I own the same 2015 13 inch Macbook pro that I bought for $210 Grade A condition, it has 16gb ram and 2tb nvme that I upgraded, the battery is not perfect it had 168 cycle count normal status, the laptop last me around 6 hours which it not that bad but not even close to modern Macs, watching youtube is a but laggy using 4k, but 1440p seems to be working fine. I still love this laptop and use it everyday with no real problem, it's still snappy for general use and even 1080p editing. and again for what I payed for I can't complain.
I bought recently a MacBook Pro 13 in early 2015 Retina display i7 16gb ram 3.1ghz over MacBook Pro 13 in 2017 8gb ram. I love it more and doesn’t look and feel old. The best thing was it cost me only around $265. Best purchase I had.
Eaters/ rubbing my ears with muffled soundForgot to mention, it rocks 512gb storage. Problem only is having blown sounds but can be replaced with a pair of speakers for a very cheap price of 10bucks. Now, how will you not love to purchase that. 😊🎉
I just got the base model of one of these and for my first macbook I like it! got it for £200/$250 used from a secondhand store and while the battery could be better I'm very happy with it for now until I upgrade to an M1 or newer macbook
I pretty much got everything replaced under Applecare when I had a bulging battery. As I had bought a trashcan mac to use in the meantime, the laptop never really got used again. I found it again last week and it's still a quality machine with a great display.
I just bought one on eBay and took the SSD from my old one and swapped it in. I love this computer. I can put it on my 43" 4k tv and with the and gpu(and a complete extreme cooling thermal upgrade) and get an amazing picture. I can even extend the desktop to the tv and it wil run a zoom meeting with 49 people on one window and a second in hd on the 43" Samsung UHD HDR TV. I run both Big Sur and Windows 10, windows runs so well on this. I have it on the desk most of the time which is why I went with liquid metal. I don't recommend everyone try it, but ig you protect potential short sources with a conformal coating and go back after a few weeks and clean it off and re-apply ever so sparingly after 3 years it was going strong until the gpu drama arose, but to be fair, I was brutal on that CPU and gpu and it was purchased new. Upgraded to LM 3 years ago. I run a Mac Pro 4,1 with Catalina 64gb ram, dual xeon 5690 and a flashed Radeon rx580 nitro+ and can push to a 1080 and a 4K simultaneously. The fact the laptop can run the built in 15" and the 4K at 1080P without a problem is amazing to me. I wish they still made them like the 4,1 and 5,1. Ok, I am old for saying that, but it is sooo true!!

I just bought a macbook pro 13 inch early 2015 produced in 2016 on 10th January 2023. Its specs are 16GB Ram and 512GB SSD, the appearance is so good, there is no scratch at all and I also had the box of it. It only costs me 470$ for it and I have a one-year warranty for the main board from the store I bought. What a great deal!! Though the full charge battery capacity is only 4638 mAh left (the design is 6559 mAh), I still can use it within roughly 3 hour with my usual hardcore stuff. Anyway, the battery is easily replaced so it is not a big deal. My only concern is that I am using Catalina OS and hesitate about upgrading to the higher version, I mostly use for coding web. Do you think that I should upgrad to Big Sur, Monterey or even Ventura? I am afraid that it cannot work smoothly with higher version. Thank you.
Thanks for commenting! I am currently using my Mac on Monterey and have no issues whatsoever. This is also the latest OS it can support. However, if you're uncertain how it might perform, you can always reverse the software update, but I believe you should be just fine. Your model is even stronger than mine.
Hi Arko, I am using a Macbook Pro 2015 on MacOS Sierra Version 10.12.6. I want to upgrade as I can't use most new apps. But I don't want to lose the speed as so far the machine has been working perfectly. What is the best MacOS Version to upgrade for my mac? Gihan from Sri Lanka
Hi! From my experience, software updates don't slow the laptop down. I've updated my Mac to the latest OS and haven't encountered any performance drops. In fact, some software updates can make the device even faster due to software optimization. Nevertheless, I recommend you look into creating a restore checkpoint before updating, so if you're not happy with the performance after the update, you can revert back. Hope this helped!

just need something to run traktor DJ software perfectly for 3-6 hours straight through. been considering a few 2015 MB pros in my area now I know what I was trying to know. prolly give it a go. thanks again. of course I subscribed.👍✔
In apple service center they said no hardware parts are available afor 2015 series coz these are closed manufacturing by apple. Software issues can be resolved only.
2015 MBP13 and 15 here, one as my portable laptop the other as a docking station for work that benefits from a larger screen. Love them both passionately and I paid for them combined less than I would have paid for one 'decent' windows laptop. My suggestion: do not upgrade any further than Catalina, which I feel is the peak OS for this generation.
Bro it just killed my mid 2015 GPU just like miy like my 2011. This stepchild got zilch for firmware updates for years AMD and Apple kicked can and it ran like trash anyways gpu was over 2yrs old junk on showroom floor. Smh
Im all set for Apple ecosystem..the iphone 12 series, the Macbook Mid 2010 runs on Catalina Patcher, Apple watch series 6, Airpod 2nd generation, and the magsafe powerbank.
I just ordered a refurbished one off ebay for $200, sadly only the 8gb ram, 128gb ssd version though but if I have issues with storage I can always just buy a bigger ssd for it, I dont plan on even downloading/installing anything on it anyway. I was about to order the 16gb ram, 500gb ssd i7 version for 240 but someone bought it whilst I was checking the sellers feedback lmao, literally refreshed the page and it was sold -_- Hopefully should be fine with 128gb though, literally all I plan on using it for is for watching netflix/youtube whilst travelling and the occasional time I cba to leave my bed to get on my desktop :D
I have 2 2015 macbook pros 15 inch, I also have 3 2012 macbook pros. I will say that the trackpad stinks on the 2015 but the keyboard is great and they are fast. They will definitely overheat but you can do the thermal paste to help with that. I am about to buy an M1 Chip 2021 macbook pro for music production.
Brateeee odlican review!!! Imam isti MacBook... Koristim ga vec nekoliko meseci i stvarno se dobro pokazao!!! Mislim da je cak proglasen za najbolji mac model ikada napravljen... Obavlja dosta funkcija sa solidnim performansama tako da za njega zamerke nemam.... I upravo pade jedan SUBSCRIBE!!!

I have a macbook pro 2015 with i7 but the problem is dont know why it is clocked at 2.2ghz, can someone help me how to overclock it , the performance isnt really good
to be honest i just want it for work and like roblox or sims do you think it would be enough rams or whatever for that? i know nothing about computers 😭
@ 10:15 I can see that, it just barely fit on the folding tray in most planes. It is still as compact as a huge iPad Pro w/ MagicKeyboard. I'm going for a Pro 10" if I can . But if you need desktop Mac OS, I realy like the Air for it's compact size. not gonna get no quad core then or AMD GPU but you save on battery.
5:26 honestly i am use 14" M1 Pro macbook pro and the trackpad never came in my way of trying or anytime really like if your are trying and you come in contact of trackpad the palm rejection is industry standard so you won't have any problem with trackpad side downside. It's an absolute bliss to use
@@AmitKumar-zr7rj If you in a budget I say yes, I still can run Monterrey on it. It has support up to that OS and others have gone higher up to Ventura.
Just brought out my barely used mid 2015 MacBook Pro out of the closet as I need to use it. I'm trying to install the latest OS systems that it will allow because the laptop won't connect to my wifi. But nothing will download and I am stuck with OS High Sierra. Any advice? PS- I am tech illiterate.
Hey, thanks for sharing your concerns. Your MB should be able to update to macOS Monterey, but you need a wifi connection for that, which I understand is the problem here. Nevertheless, you could try to connect to some other networks other than yours and see if the problem persists. If so, maybe this could help: cleanmymac.com/blog/macbook-not-connecting-wifi
Hi 👋 Personally, I didn't have a great time editing a video in iMovie on my MB, especially when exporting since it overheated and was loud. Yes, the 15" is more powerful and, if paired with 16 gigs of RAM, it should be better, I hope.
If you step out of the 4K craze (I did) it is perfect for video editing. 99% of viewers watch on a phone at 720p mostly. So edit 1080p I would say. The 13 inch is OK. On paper the 15 inch seems nice and faster, but it is also old-tech. It has a 22nm processor and a 40nm GPU. The 13 inch is 14nm with integrated graphics and never overheats.
Yeap, it's super, but too noise if I start load it. I wish I could replace cooler, battery and ssd and it would be nice laptop for education for a next 5 years
These things run Windows 11 like a dream (the 15 inch one).... just saying... I can't put up with MacOS, but as a Windows PC it's hillarious... and there are no buts! Everything works including the touchpad with precision drivers (from github)... 1800/1800 mbs ssd....
I had an old 17 inch 2011 i7 quad core macbook pro that served me well till the graphic chip failed. At least I could salvage the 500gb ssd and 2 8gb simm models. I then acquired a 15" 2011 macbook which I still own. I did invest in a 2nd hand M1 macbook pro 8g ram 512gb drive. There no comparison with the older laptops, my thunderbolt nvme drive zips along, even my two 4tb ssd are speedy on the M1. In the future I'll be on the look out for a 2nd studio mac or m2 max mac mini. Prices will fall and there bargain to be had. Just to add I still have an elderly 2008 17" dual core laptop, I've just upgraded the drive to an ssd, I use it for ripping cds into mp3s. The battery bloated long ago so runs of the mains.
Older macs I have are a few old plastic white macbooks still working but never use one shutdown so may need thermal paste on processor. Then an old G4 quicksilver tower and a vintage power mac 6100 pizza box.
If you're using paid davinci, you could try editing at 1080 and setting to 4k for the export.. I'm curious too, but only have the free version and no 4k camera.
I believe what you call "older tech" (10 years is definitely nowhere near old in my book) is much more reliable, more durable, more sustainable, much better built, totally useable, more repairable, and much more affordable. Long live "older tech"!!!
Idk but I'm just wondering is there is any way to play games on this macbook , I have macbook pro 2015 15 inches But sadly I tried everything and I still can not play any games on this macbook , can anyone please help me??
Hey. Macs are meant to be office and productivity devices. That means that gaming is not what they're intended for. Gaming on laptops generally tends to be worse than on desktop PCs, unless you spend waaay too much money on a gaming laptop and even then you've gotta be plugged to a wall most of the time. Hope this explanation helped you a bit.
Longish comment ahead with numbers ahead TLDR: MacBook Pro Screens are just that good, but better. Would like to clarify for the guy that compared his retina display to a 4kTV. And explain to people the screen really does look that good. (Keep in mind resolution and pixel density isn't everything. Color output matters as well. But i'm only speaking of pure detail) 2560x1600 is the resolution for 13" 2015 MBP's (227pixels/sq inch) 2880x1800 is the res for the 15" 2015 MBP's (220pixels/sq inch) 3840x2160 is standard 4k res. on a 40inch tv that's only (110ppi²) less if its a bigger tv Rule of thumb. Smaller displays don't need ridiculously high resolutions to look extremely detailed. Flagship smartphones are usually around ~500ppi² since they are usually fitting a 1440p display within like 6 inches For example if the 13 inch was only 1280x800p (just over 720p but still 16:10 ratio) it would have a pixel density of (116ppi²) inch which is higher than a normal 4k 40"tv. (110ppi²) Basically a 15 inch MBP (220ppi²) Compares less with a 4k 40"tv ...but more to a 8k 40"tv (7680x4320 pixels 220ppi²) and even higher resolution if we are talking 50-60+ resolution In an 80inch TV you'd need 16k for the same pixel density lol
Thanks for bringing this up, as I may not have emphasized it enough in this video. Yes, the Retina display on the MB is simply amazing and it's one of my favorite characteristics of this laptop.
Yeah, mine is fine. Make sure to get the i7 16gb ram 3.1ghz version. will run a bit smoother for longer given the age of the device. I'd recommend upgrading the SSD (OWC Aura x2) and battery which are both quite cheap.

just need something to run traktor DJ software perfectly for 3-6 hours straight through. been considering a few 2015 MB pros in my area now I know what I was trying to know. prolly give it a go. thanks again. of course I subscribed.👍✔
@anthonygato407 thank you!
Smh
how is your experience with Catalina in 2023?
How long does the your battery last on a full charge ? , I will be using mine when I purchase one just for web browsing
That heavily depends on battery health. Mine's not so good, it has over 900 cycles and it lasts about 3-4 hours.
Thanks for the review love my MacBook Pro bought for 360$ my battery only had 91 cycles
Thanks for the video!
Can't say I agree with your experience with the trackpad, but everything else, pretty much spot on.
I have the same one but he has a clicking fan trouble, and consider to replace it
Then you probably should. It shouldn't be complicated or expensive to do.
Best of luck! 🍀
Brateeee odlican review!!! Imam isti MacBook... Koristim ga vec nekoliko meseci i stvarno se dobro pokazao!!! Mislim da je cak proglasen za najbolji mac model ikada napravljen... Obavlja dosta funkcija sa solidnim performansama tako da za njega zamerke nemam.... I upravo pade jedan SUBSCRIBE!!!
Hvala, druze! Drago mi je da si zadovoljan 😄
Can you guide me .....I am a app developer ....I was thinking about switching from windows i5 4gen to MacBook 2015 early 13.3 inch .,if you prefer me to switch to this device what specs I should go to .
I am not quite sure that the model I mentioned in my video would be enough for your needs... I recommend the 15inch one with higher specs.
Can this laptop still run garageband or logic pro?
I have a macbook pro 2015 with i7 but the problem is dont know why it is clocked at 2.2ghz, can someone help me how to overclock it , the performance isnt really good
to be honest i just want it for work and like roblox or sims do you think it would be enough rams or whatever for that? i know nothing about computers 😭
For Sims, probably not. It's a heavy game, not only in terms of RAM. Roblox, can't say confidently.
I have an M1 MacBook Air as well as some older models, and the newer trackpad is fantastic. Never had an issue with it.
When you go Mac, you never go back~~
I have the 2015 15-inch Macbook Pro, the only issue with the machine is the battery life. It drains so fast.
Yes, that happens on older laptops. Don't get discouraged tho since it's easy to replace it and inexpensive as well. Much luck!
@@Juupiter8 I am not sure they still service batteries on these devices.
is $350 a good price for the 15 inch one with the integrated graphics ?
I believe so, but be cautious about the battery health, keyboard, and the speakers.
I watching this on my 13 2015 Retina MacBook Pro.
Would you recommend it ? To buy?
@@arko_tech This helped! I got the wifi to work- Thank you!!! Still can't update to Monterey but I'll keep at it.
Hi, how is the 13" Macbook Pro 2015 for editing videos? Or would the 15.4" MacBook Pro 2015 be better for those functions? Greetings from Perú.
Hi 👋
Personally, I didn't have a great time editing a video in iMovie on my MB, especially when exporting since it overheated and was loud. Yes, the 15" is more powerful and, if paired with 16 gigs of RAM, it should be better, I hope.
@@arko_tech Thank you
If you step out of the 4K craze (I did) it is perfect for video editing.
@@lovemadeinjapan thanks friend
it is good - been using for 5 years
Yeap, it's super, but too noise if I start load it.
My only problem I have with this MacBook is that it struggles to run Final Cut pro
Battery is no problem as it’s easy and cheap to replace.
I love older tech but apple products I sell and use the money towards the next apple product I want ... always 😅
You definitely have an awesome stack up of Apple devices. It's so great to hear. Thanks for commenting! 😄
Older macs I have are a few old plastic white macbooks still working but never use one shutdown so may need thermal paste on processor. Then an old G4 quicksilver tower and a vintage power mac 6100 pizza box.
Wow. 😯
What browser works on El Capitan?
I purchased a base model early 2015 macbook pro for $150SGD , i'm planning to upgrade the 128gb ssd to a 512gb , do u guys think its worth?
I think it is. 128GB is really low. Good luck 🍀🤞
@@arko_tech Yeah , i barely have any apps on my macbook and theres only 90gb left
can we edit and render 4k 60fps video on macbook pro 15-inch 2015...? smoothly
I don't think so... 🤔
If you're using paid davinci, you could try editing at 1080 and setting to 4k for the export.. I'm curious too, but only have the free version and no 4k camera.
I love older pieces of technology. Especially since it’s cheaper 😅
I believe what you call "older tech" (10 years is definitely nowhere near old in my book) is much more reliable, more durable, more sustainable, much better built, totally useable, more repairable, and much more affordable. Long live "older tech"!!!
Idk but I'm just wondering is there is any way to play games on this macbook , I have macbook pro 2015 15 inches
But sadly I tried everything and I still can not play any games on this macbook , can anyone please help me??
Longish comment ahead with numbers ahead
TLDR: MacBook Pro Screens are just that good, but better.
Would like to clarify for the guy that compared his retina display to a 4kTV. And explain to people the screen really does look that good. (Keep in mind resolution and pixel density isn't everything. Color output matters as well. But i'm only speaking of pure detail)
2560x1600 is the resolution for 13" 2015 MBP's (227pixels/sq inch)
2880x1800 is the res for the 15" 2015 MBP's (220pixels/sq inch)
3840x2160 is standard 4k res. on a 40inch tv that's only (110ppi²) less if its a bigger tv
Rule of thumb. Smaller displays don't need ridiculously high resolutions to look extremely detailed.
Flagship smartphones are usually around ~500ppi² since they are usually fitting a 1440p display within like 6 inches
For example if the 13 inch was only 1280x800p (just over 720p but still 16:10 ratio) it would have a pixel density of (116ppi²) inch which is higher than a normal 4k 40"tv. (110ppi²)
Basically a 15 inch MBP (220ppi²)
Compares less with a 4k 40"tv ...but more to a 8k 40"tv (7680x4320 pixels 220ppi²) and even higher resolution if we are talking 50-60+ resolution
In an 80inch TV you'd need 16k for the same pixel density lol
Thanks for bringing this up, as I may not have emphasized it enough in this video. Yes, the Retina display on the MB is simply amazing and it's one of my favorite characteristics of this laptop.
And in 2024
we can use photoshop or video editing app in this laptop in today
Funciona photoshop e Lightroom normalmente?
I hope I understood your question 😂
I haven't tried Photoshop nor Lightroom on this laptop, but I believe it would be fine.
@@arko_tech understood yes! I am from Brazil. thanks!
Bro should i get it in 2024?
Yeah, mine is fine. Make sure to get the i7 16gb ram 3.1ghz version. will run a bit smoother for longer given the age of the device. I'd recommend upgrading the SSD (OWC Aura x2) and battery which are both quite cheap.
That machine flies with Linux Mint
I bought mine when it was new in 2015. It looks amazing and perfect but its slow af and lags like a mf
Hmm... I wouldn't say that mine is the fastest laptop ever, but I definitely don't have such performance issues. Maybe try to reboot it completely.
@@arko_tech I have the latest MacOS
Heavy?! Are you joking?
No? 😅
im going to get it in just 212$
Is it really good in 2023 for $400?
Not sure it is considering it's an old device and usually has battery & overheating issues. Maybe you could find some good deals, but idk...
@@arko_tech thanks bro 😊🙏
so boring ?
