Thank yhou! I have a 2001 Suburban in Green and it's also got 320,000 miles on it with most miles touring Mexico. Today, I have the car in Mexico getting a new paint job given it's an Arizona car with some sun damage. The 5.3 engine doesn't use a drop of oil on large trips, so that's unusual. I am upgrading the interior. With these you can feel the road, but the newer ones you are more divorsed from the road, so I'm staying with this older style as I move to Mexico - great because I travel with the two dogs.
@@dennishassler605 this generation really was the last reliable and simple Suburban. I often see these with 500k+, glad to hear you found one and drive it everywhere! Thank you for watching
@@tommyistommy My Suburban is outstanding and very, very reliable. I rarely have an issue, but when I do if I'm traveling in the depth of Mexico there's ALWAYS mechanics that can work on the car. Once, in Guanjuato, I was able to replace the water pump quickly and economically. Moreover, I also have an 06 GMC Envoy Denali with the 5.3 V8 and it's required a lot more maintainence - I've rebuilt the entire vehicle so it's fine for another 100K miles and GM did a good job on this car giving it an aluminum head and durable enterior, too. I have 200k miles on it, but it drives like a sports car. Americans should stick with their old cars, because the new cars are built for the government and NOT for the people.
@@dennishassler605 I completely agree! I rent new cars often for work and they are poorly built in every way. I have issues with brand new vehicles during my rental for the week...I could not imagine owning one personally. Vehicles from 96-06 are pretty much the best in terms of reliability, comfort, simplicity to work on and build quality. I have 5 vehicles and they are all from the late 90s/early 2000s. I could easily afford a new car, just don't want one!
@@tommyistommy Ha, ha!! Exactly and the newest ones are totally strange with more electronics and there's not even a rear axil - I don't see these new suburbans lasting very long and the maintenance will kill you, so it's so much better to have those olders ones that are so reliable. It's better to have an older car in Mexico to keep a low profile. I just paid $150 for a new headliner installed in Mexico - they didn't do the visors yet, but they had excellent material and refused to use the cheap Amazon material.
I have the exact 2500 but 2002. American exceptionalism is an absurd idea.Every country, Macedonia, the Roman and the Austro-Hungarian Empires, Spain, England, Napoleonic France (in that order), Hitler'sGermany, the United States. The US is still one of the countries I love the most (unless you manage to destroy your democracy). Love your truck. And mine. Mine has 120k miles. Oh, mine has barn doors. I polished the headlights and the tailights, and they look new. Great video, thank you very much.
@@JavierBonillaC the Suburban is my definition of exceptionalism...the fact that they have made it since the 1930s without skipping a beat speaks volumes! That's awesome to hear you have one you love as much as I do. 120k miles is nothing on these trucks, my parents bought one new in 2001 and it's nearing 400k on original motor, transmission and driveline. I put about 15k miles annually on my Suburban, I'm over 200k already and I bought it with 178k 18 months ago. I do need to detail this one, will definitely try polishing the lights this time around! This is the best version of the Suburban IMO. I did some research and wanted something for overlanding to replace my 01 crew cab F150 4.6L v8 that i lost on title pawn. I still have my 96 K1500 Z71, but I would keep that crew cab F150 and other vehicles if i could do it over again. I was torn on an Excursion or Suburban at the time. Did some comparisons and the auto 4wd plus ease of maintenance was the selling point over the Excursion. I found my 2005 Z71 Burb for just $2300. It needs some work, but it gets the job done as a daily driver with over 350k miles at time of purchase. The trans was already replaced. I plan on installing a new engine in the future.hope to road trip it across the country and overland it when I’m financially able. The trucking industry is at a low point right now, but it will bounce back eventually. New subscriber. I too am a car person. I inherited my father’s 2001 2wd F150 v6 and P71 Crown Victoria that i plan on installing a new engine in as well.
@@Wicked_RotF30 Appreciate the follow, thank you! I think you made a great choice with the Suburban, they are definitely easier to work on than the 10th gen Ford platform. I had a 97 regular cab flair side 4.6 5 speed f150 right before I bought the suburban, doing a starter and plugs in that truck took longer than a motor swap in a GMT800! I use mine to overland pretty frequently, I don't even have it built out, I just bring a full size mattress and have enough room for it and all my stuff with the flat cargo area. The z71 package is great, they almost always have the shortest gearing, awesome roof rack, skid plates and the rear locker. If I was getting another half ton, it would be a z71 100%.
