This absolutely needs to be taught in schools everywhere. This was one of the most moving and difficult documentaries I have ever seen and I have seen a number of them. I started to cry and couldn't stop even when it was over. What a horrid time in history. A very beautiful tribute to the people of Oradour.
I agree this should be taught in schools, and there were probably more like this that never got discovered
We need to teach that partisans aré forbbiden in war.
And this happened because of partisans activities.
I've never heard of this. So, glad you made this video. This atrocity should never be forgotten.
Speaking as someone who's been there and witnessed first hand the odour in the air, the bullet holes everywhere, the childs pram in the church and all those faces that greet you as you enter, this should never be allowed to be forgotten. To see the bones of some of them in those glass coffins is soul destroying. It's a place that you walk around with tears in your eyes and a lump in your throat. I defy anyone who visits not to be moved by it.
Thank you for posting this, you edited and narrated this brilliantly.
❤️🙌🏻
As an English man who has visited Orodor with my wife, who , after a few steps, couldn't face any more of such an atrocity. My friends question my ' negative ' attitude towards Germans. This is the answer! Even the name Germany has a hardness and unfeeling conitation about it today.!
Like Gaza yeah! or do neo natzi get the green light!
@@woodenseagull1899 Most of the murderers were not Germans but were French collaborators serving in the Waffen SS.
In one way, I wish I hadn't visited Odour. My wife turned back. She couldn't face going any further. Friends say to me " l have such negative thoughts about Germans.! I am astonished that present day Germans have the audacity to view " the handiwork of their grandparents"....One can't hide from their Linage .
Thank you for reporting with so much details about this sad and often forgotten moment of history, and also include photos and footage of the village before it’s annihilation. It brings faces and eternal memory of the victims of this senseless act of Barbary. I grew up in Limoges, not far from Oradour sur Glane, and I visited the place many times as part of school trips. But more tragically, my grand mother sister died in the church with her 7 year old son, while her husband was killed in the Milord Barn. The pain was still there until my grand mother passed away in 2004. I recommend to everyone to visit the site as it’s an eternal reminder of the horrors of war. There is a bunker, next to the preserved village, where artefacts from that terrible day are exposed, frozen in time, like bullet-riddled baby strollers, watches melted and frozen at the time of the massacre and many more personal and deeply emotional items. Let’s not forget. Peace everyone.😢
We found the bunker, shocking seeing the artefacts. Such a sad story and will know more than any of us having family related to the event. Thanks for watching.
Such a moving video. Wonderfully respectfully edited. This should be part of any school history lesson.
A lot of work was put into this without an ounce of sensationalism. For that, Thank you. I've not heard of this particular atrocity before and glad I found your video to listen to. Again Thank you.🧡
A sympathetic, respectfully composed video and lovely tribute, this reduced me to tears.
Thank you ❤️ although it’s not nice hearing your video brought somebody to tears, on the other hand it lets me know we captured the emotion 🙌🏻
I don't wanna spoil this with too many words, so I send my love, respect and heartfelt thanks to ALL that sacrificed their lives (living and deceased in ALL wars).
Always remembered, never forgotten, no matter what time of year it is.
R.I.P. you beautiful souls 💙🥀🇬🇧.
P.s. as I previously mentioned on here and on Instagram, having a beer at the ready was to raise a glass to all concerned, that includes motourev for posting such a beautiful story and for the narration @Craig, made me cry after hearing of all the horrible events in this story and the losses of so many, its just one story of thousands during the war of 1939-1945, so damn sad 😢
Thank you for sharing 💙🇬🇧❤️🥰
Lest we forget........😢
Sounds odd, but I'm glad you got to see the hand, sorta brings an end to the story, that was so powerful and I'm sorry for more words than I intended to send, I just wanted to send my respects 🙏 😞
Thanks buddy, yes finding the hand was very important to me, as morbid as it sounds I needed to find that hand. I’d been searching for 2 years to find no proof the hand was there. I just imagine if that was me and if in that position you probably would try to keep the hand as your only treasure. To find it was a special moment for me.
@@Motourev I can definitely understand that, I'm pleased you was able too buddy 🤟✌️
Thank You for your time and compassion producing this documentary. I've researched and studied this crime for nearly three decades just when I thought there was nothing more to learn I come across this documentary. I'm one of the last generations to hear these stories first hand from the people that were there. Once again Thank You
Thank you for taking the time to watch and for all your hard work in research in memory of all those that were lost ❤️🙏🏻
Thankyou for the careful telling of an horrific tale. I was there in September and felt as choked as you were. Putting faces to men, women and children cruelly exterminated by the nazis sucks the humanity from you. #lestweforget 😪
Thank you Craig for spending so much time filming researching editing and Narrating this very powerful Documentary!.
You have done these people’s memory proud!.❤️❤️
Yes thank you Craig you could hear from the intonation in your voice how touched you were on your visit there.
Thanks Craig, I can’t begin to think how hard it was to put this one together.
Unfortunately we haven’t learned from such tragedies, I immediately think of the Balkan’s and the atrocities that took place there and I’m sure there are more that I’m unaware of.
Agree
I have been visiting this site on and off since the late 1980s both as a family and with friends on motorbikes. I have never visited and not felt extremely sad and reflective on the waste of human life both old and young. I visited this year in May with some friends but decided to sit and mind helmets etc just at the top of the steps after the wall with all the photos. My reason was two fold . One I didn't want to fall into the trap of explaining everything and becoming a "tour guide" and therefore stopping the guys from just experiencing the visual affect of the destruction. Secondly I used the time on my own to remember absent friends and family.
This was excellent and so well done . Nothing beats a visit.
Merci Craig. Face à la barbarie, il faut de bonnes personnes comme vous pour entretenir le souvenir. We forgive but we don't forget.
I live around an hour ride away and have visited many times, it never gets any easier on the emotions.
I recall you boys saying on this tour how lovely and charming the villages you passed through are. Well you know the rest.
Absolutely stunning villages, it was how I dreamed the French countryside to be and it certainly did not disappoint
It was a very emotional and moving place to visit. It will stay with me for a long time that's for certain.
Thank you for taking the time & energy to bring this tragedy to our screens.
You have honoured all those people with such humility & respect.
You have also brought all those people to life & told a story which will be everyone should hear.
You should be proud of what you have done, I simply want to say a heart felt thank you to you & the boys. Please keep up the great work.
Thank you Phil ❤️
Its hard to describe the feeling walking round there .. 💔
You can't, I've been twice
What an awful event. Thank you for ensuring people will never be able to forget this atrocity. I have found your France films and the history that you have been telling us about to be fascinating and the respectful way you have done so has been very touching.

This type of video also reminds me the attrocities caused by the British Empire. The Mau Mau uprising and Boer concentration camps are some evil examples...

Informative, heartfelt, emotional. It's a truly fitting epitaph.
Thank you for filming & narrating this for us. Despite wanting to honor those that are gone, I cant afford to travel to these memorials. You gave one more person a chance to keep their memories alive. God Bless.

Amazing editing skills Craig .
Brilliantly put together. Planned to go there a couple of years ago, bit never made it due to one of the groups bike breaking down. Will definitely go there at some point to pay our respect.
The stories made me quite emotional while listening to them. Horrific turn of events. May they all rest in peace😪🙏
You did an exquisite job on this video!
I couldn’t imagine what the survivors had to live with the rest of their lives. Those memories one could never remove from your mind
I know, bless them
Thank you for making this video I visited there about 15 years ago but at the time it’s too much to take in. You explained so much more than you would know just by visiting yourself thank you
Thanks for putting this out on RUclips, there are still many people that don't know this story and hopefully this will be a stopping point for many more visitors to pay their respects. I've been there a couple of times and find the place very moving, with whispering visitors wandering around in a state of shock and reverence. Being the same age as a lot of the children murdered there and a survivor of the Blitz in London, I think of the life I've had with all it's treasures; and then of the future that might have been and which was so cruelly denied these poor little ones.
Up until about twenty years ago, Oradour-sur-Glane used to be well sign posted from the Autoroute as: "Site memorable de nazi massacre", but this offended some European Community member states so the signs were removed. Contrast this with my first visit there long before the Common Market on my way to Spain in 1962. I stopped to ask a gendarme in Limoges for directions to Oradour and he smartly saluted me and said, "Suivez moi!", jumped into his Renault and led us all the way there some twenty miles or so. How times have changed! One thing that never changes however, Oradour-sur-Glane is the only place in the whole of France where dogs are not allowed.
It is a remarkable place which I think should be part of school education. You certainly have seen and experienced many changes over the years and let’s hope Oradour never gets forgotten and only remembered by locals. The current world leaders could do with a visit their to show them they are repeating history.
Indeed, it's a very thoughtful homage! The soundtrack and narration are so emotionally effectual and articulate. I'm so intrigued by the meticulous research and illustrative connections that brought to life this critical piece of work. Exceptionally well done!
Thank you so much for the kind words ❤️🙏🏻 I really enjoyed making the video and the story should never be forgotten

I saw this story briefly told at the beginning of The World at War series years ago. I live in Blackpool and when I did a touring holiday in France in the late 90s I visited Oradour. It was one of the saddest and moving experiences of my life. Such a beautiful village in such lovely countryside left as a dead place and in ruins. Remember them and make absolutely sure something like this never happens again...

Thank you for making this amazing video....but this is so incredibly heartbreaking and such a total tragedy.....ALL of these innocent men, women, and sweet children died by the hand of a HORRIBLE, CRAZIED & EVIL man....and for what?!?!? There was truly NO reason for this.....to see the skeletons of these homes and businesses and then the photos of ALL of those adults, children, & babies that were victims of the Nazis, its just such a nightmare....BUT this was and is real life... We can only PRAY that something like this will NEVER happen again.... But its seriously SO IMPORTANT that the future children, in EVERY country, NEED to continue being taught about this in their schools....So that this will hopefully NEVER happen again!!! I have always wanted to travel here to see this town and to pay my respect to ALL of those who had lost their lives... But unfortunately I most likely will never have the chance to actually go there.... So I sincerely thank you for making this video!!!😢💜🙏🩷
Thank you for the kind words, it truly was a very sad place, you could feel the sadness overcome you. To look in the buildings and imagine peoples lives and how they lived was an experience I don’t think I will find else where. Full credit to the French for preserving the village exactly how it was. I would recommend to visit the place if ever the chance becomes available as it changed me forever seeing it with my own eyes.
Thank you
At first the strong nothern accent in the narrative takes some patience, after about 5 minutes, the film develops and becomes a truly historical experience of the SS Reich Division massacre of the village. I had heard of this massacre in France as I am French/Irish/ and born in England, so, I have a decent knowledge from different angles on WW2 and WW1 (as my grandfather was in the French infantry from 1914 to 1917, he was seriously injured at Verdun, his brother was killed in 1916). My father was in England during WW2 and was 18 in 1945.
One of my friends at school was German Venezuelan in England, his father was an SS Tank division commander in WW2 and has been suspected of taking part in a destruction of a village in France and the assassination of the village habitants. When at school in England from 1971 to 1981 I asked about the whereabouts of his father and one of the two sons who I knew well said “he can’t return to Europe, as he served in the SS and was an officer in charge of a Panzer Division)…
His father was 15 years older than his mother who was Venezuelan and who I met in the North of England several times during half term holidays, small world, coincidences. Hard to grasp this level of evil and inhuman behavior
It is a very sad story indeed, I would imagine many SS officers where all over Europe living normal lives like nothing had happened. Thanks for watching.
You made a really good presentation there, thankyou. I remember going to Auswitz in 2001 and the thing that stuck in my mind that i will never forget was this womans pefect blonde plat right on the top of the display of hair, ill never forget it. That little girls hand was kind of hard to see even on yt, it must have been very tough to see it in real life.
The girls hand is the one image that is stuck in my mind. Still had the finger nails on. To think as a parent that was your child’s hand you once held 🥲
...heart-rending
