What if you took a book with a fantasy genre and using the story and characters flipped it into a contemporary! I think that would be so funny and you would do it well. i've never been this early omg... jesse i love your channel!! also please please please read skulduggery pleasant it feels like a book you'd really love and it's really not popular in the us it's really sad
I agree with Bridge of Clay! I read it a while ago but I was so confused the entire time. It felt really vague without a driving force, but the language was really pretty.
Anyone else admires how respectful jesse talks about the WORST Books he read in the year? Like if I start talking about a book I dislike, there's no stopping me but he is so nice and wellspoken and I kinda love it
I had a lot of books I rated 3 stara last year but the one that dissapointed me the most was Blood Promise by Richelle Mead, the 4th book in the Vampire Academy series. The 3rd book ended on a cliffhanger and I was expecting the next book to pick up with action but it didn't and all the events were too drawn out. However, the 5th book redeemed itself and I still need to read the last book.
I still look forward reading Every You, Every Me. I have been wanting to read it since I was in college. How Jesse felt about "Every you, every me" was excactly how I felt about this book "Varjonyrkkeilijä" (Shadowboxer). The only charecter trate the main charecter had was "victim" (The only charecter given any personality was a boxing coach, who on their freetime sexually assaulted girls he was paid to train. So that should out some things into a perspective). I also could not put the friken book down, despite is being the worst book I've read last year, but that was because The writing style of the author Inga Magga, was SO beautiful. okay but his livestream last night was AMAZING, OUTSTANDING, when he forgot what the sequel for the slivered serpents was called LOLL, also can we talk about how the video time is “11:11” wow!
Great vid as always. I had almost read a bridge of clay years ago because I loved the Book Thief so much. I had it on my hands for a month or so from the library but ended up taking it back because I didn't know when I would actually read it. Never saw it again. Haha. I have a few books I was disappointed by. 'Girl, Srpect and Thorn,' 'a curse so dark and lonely,' and "shadown and Bone." yes, I know... all popular or decently books. popular books. There could be another but I can't recall anything else I nthe top of my head. oh! I tried Red Queen and ended up DNF'ing it. sorry to fans of these popular books... I tried. They were not bad, just not for me.
I understand and completely agree with all your thoughts on Bridge of Clay. I almost dnfed it because 100 pages in I was telling myself and everyone around me about how it made no sense. I kept going though, and while I didn't love his writing in it, I ended up liking the book for the most part. It's downsides are certainly the things you mentioned but in the end, the weirdness and the characters backstories made it an enjoyable read for me. Definitely could have been shorter though!
I REALLY wanted to love Bridge of Clay as much as I loved The Book Thief, but I need to reread Bridge of Clay because I barely remember anything from it! I guess the themes didn’t land perfectly for me. I do remember liking the parents’ backstory the most though.
Worst book I read this year: A Darkling Plain by Philip Reeve. That's all I'm gonna say, because if I say anymore, my rant will be longer than that Markus Zusak book Jesse didn't like.
Worst book: Wonder Woman war bringer... does anyone else agree? I feel like everyone loved it but all the characters were the same and there was very little action and a ton of fluff
My sister read that. I was reading Six of Crows at the same time and I was so excited to see that we were reading the same author. I really liked SOC but I'm probs gonna give Warbringer a pass
@@luthientinuviel3883 yeah I just finished Six of Crows and loved it- honestly I think Leigh Bardugo just wasn’t as passionate about Wonder Woman because she was probably asked to write it by DC and it wasn’t her own idea
I had a similar BLAH reading year! Comfort rereads all the way!! But the ones i borderline hated/was irritated by were The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo and The Song of Achilles had SUPER depressing endings, and i didn't like The Wicked Fox because again it seemed like nothing but tragedy for no reason? What I Like About You was trying so hard to be super current that it felt forced and yes, it is a YA book but yes i am an adult in my 20s reading it and the main girl kept making such a big deal about how YA books are ONLY for teenagers and that adults needed to stay away from their books like um NO??? That's not how books work! So many classic "children's books" are also in the adult section. It really hit a nerve with me! So many other books for me were also just MEH but these are the only ones that made me angry lol.
Is the weirdness in The Lonesome Bodybuilder anything like the weirdness in A.S. King's books? :o My most disappointing book of 2020 was Catch-22. It's rooted in absurdity, which I was prepared for going in, but it was just so confusing and pointless that I didn't like it :/
OH GOD FINALLY SOMEONE ELSE DIDN'T LIKE BRIDGE OF CLAY. I did a whole rant video a few years ago and UGH IT WAS SO.. WHAT EVEN HAPPENED??? Typically I like the weird, nonsensical types but this read like a bunch of random words thrown together. I genuinely felt like I was reading a language I only briefly knew??
Your video’s always bring me so much happiness. Yes even when you are hating on books 😂 One book that I absolutely hated last year was ‘once upon a dream’ from the Disney twisted tale collection. The pacing was way to slow, I was kinda bored.🙄
I only ended up DNFing one book in 2020, which I'm happy about, but honestly, my reading year wasn't as good as past years. While I didn't HATE this book overall, one of my disappointing books was 'A Cuban Girl's Guide to Tea and Tomorrow'. The main character did something that honestly infuriated me, and while I'm glad I kept reading and finished it, that ruined the book for me.
My first read of 2020 was Beartown and my hatred for it still flows through me. I know so many people love it, and I was so excited but everything about it annoyed me. It didn't help that people assured me it was not a hockey book... and it was definitely a hockey book. Thankfully starting so badly meant everything could only go up from there reading-wise!!
One of my 'didn't like it but finish it anyway' of 2020 was Race to the Bottom of the Sea by Lindsay Eagar. The writing style, the description of places, weather(storm since it sets mostly at ship sailing seas) were so beautiful. Some characters I actually liked them. But the storyline sucks

Typically I like the weird, nonsensical types but this read like a bunch of random words thrown together. I genuinely felt like I was reading a language I only briefly knew??
Bridge of Clay dropped the ball so hard you said nothing but facts there
CLON BEHAVIOR LMAO -- anyways, best boy uploaded ahh!!
I get so excited every time you post🤗
Your video’s always bring me so much happiness. Yes even when you are hating on books 😂 One book that I absolutely hated last year was ‘once upon a dream’ from the Disney twisted tale collection. The pacing was way to slow, I was kinda bored.🙄
Great video as always!! I literally read 6 books this year. Have a good dayy
Worst book of the year for me was the only book I have dnfed and that's "be more chill"
What didn't you like about it. I was planning on reading it coz I like the musical. Ik the plots slightly different
I love your editing!!! What editing tools do you use? BIG FAN 🙌🏼
thanks! i currently use Final Cut Pro
I feel like it was a meh reading year for me as well. Not super memorable
But the storyline sucks
have you ever read the belgariad series? it’s a fantasy and it’s so good!! there’s 5 books in the belgariad, and then 5 books in the following series the mallorean. they are by david eddings
If you like weird you should read "Nothing to See Here" by Kevin Wilson. Its weird and wholesome🥰
Just came back after not reading most of 2020 thanks to your vids started reading again thanks!!
Hi Jesse aka king of booktube! Great video as always 💚
Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo, I had such high expectations and it fell very short. I will be giving it a second chance this year though
