Why is the governor making this move? To adress what issues? This wasnt sufficiently fleshed out on either side.
Well because, college students taught in woke progressive-minded institutions become focused on nonexistent issues and don’t know how to act in the real world outside of their campus

In 1969 27% of college professors were conservative. Today Nationally, only 16% are conservative with New England only having 3.5% of professors being conservative. There are all sorts of sliced and diced data with the worst case scenarios being on the order of only 0.83% of some campuses conservative representation. What is going on here, is a sudden governmental shift shaking the earth, as opposed to a decades long march by liberals to control academia and political institutions.
If you want to talk about lack of diversity anywhere, look at the lack of acceptance of conservative values. Jordan Peterson in a discussion of diversity regard jobs for men and women pointed out two salient points which apply to this article in both directions. 1st if you mandate that half of all engineers in a company be women then by definition, you are lower the overall quality of engineers. Not because women cannot make great engineers, but because there are far more men that pursue engineering and hence there is a larger pool of male engineers from which to pull the best qualified. 2.Women are only pushing for equity in certain cerebral fields such as business management , government, etc. They are not pushing to be brick layers, soldiers, septic tank cleaners etc.
If you want true EQUITY and diversity, then you must tolerate a roughly 36% Conservative and 37% moderate set of professors vs 25% liberal on campus and the same with students.
If you want equality, then you must let each individual rise to their potential with only their performance in grade school through high school to guide their worthiness to college acceptance. For any who have failed to qualify to that point, provide a GED crash course of two years and then retest them. that will separate the serious from the posers or grafters.
Instead of allowing professors to dictate their truth, allow a student to challenge a position in a paper, thesis etc. by having an alternatively politically aligned professor evaluate the work.
One can see how the equity and diversity argument can go on and on and on.
