  • Experience the luxury of simplicity.
The Hussar’s Room reflects the Kálnoky family’s long standing tradition of equestrian culture and military horsemanship. In 1741, the family set up the first Regiment of Hussars in Transylvania which bore their name. The Kálnoky Hussars helped Empress Maria Theresia to remain on the Habsburg throne during the War of Austrian Succession (1740-48) and took part in the ensuing 7 Years War (1756-63). It was renowned for using the ancient warfare tactics of the Huns, luring the adversary into a pursuit by feigning retreat and then suddenly shooting back at them by sitting backwards on their horses in full gallop. The regiment’s badge is now being used as the family’s estate logo. The regiment remained active until the first World War.
The uniform in the room is a replica of those worn in the18th century by the Kálnoky hussars. It was designed to impress the enemy and to protect from sabre strikes to the upper body.
An iced bottle of fine prosecco awaits the guests in the room upon arrival!
Our guesthouses in the Transylvanian village of Miklósvár / Micloșoara date back to the 1800’s and before. The buildings have been carefully restored in order to preserve their original charm and character. The cottages are situated within spacious gardens, some with storks nesting on nearby rooftops. They have been beautifully furnished with antiques in the Transylvanian Szekler and Saxon styles.

Went there several times, also during the renovation of the large house...one of the nicest memories of my life. Once my babies grow bigger, we will come back as a family. I have been advertizing you to my friends all over Europe for a really long time:)

Great stuff! Remember it all so fondly. Love the new curtains, and the iPad holder in the bathroom. 😀
