Ruri, I’m sorry about how this stream started. I struggled a lot hearing people call you a gatekeeper and then when you asked how you are gatekeeper, the answer generally seemed to be that you are gatekeeping. That kind of thing happens a lot in my world too (teaching), and its really tough when the person accusing you won’t tell you why, just that you are doing something they don’t like. It’s clear to me you really like this game and want to see others like it too. IMO, you are what you strive for, one of the most welcoming and encouraging voices in this sphere. You’ve convinced me to try things I wouldn’t otherwise and stick with things I was frustrated with and most of the time I’ve really ended up enjoying them. Don’t let this one get you down and keep being you! Keep that shield up, Iron Breaker.
I struggled alot in the end of act 1, had to redo my build, then killed every previous boss again for loot and drops, improved my equipment and was ok after, i just was not able to do enough damage because i was focusing on the wrong skills Beginning of act 2 was also a bit of a struggle, redid a few more previous bosses, and then was smooth sailing Having so much fun with this game, im happy there is no difficulty options, i would have dropped it and would never have felt what i did when i killed the last boss of act 1
I'm at the start of Act 2 Cruel, as a Ranger, and some bosses just one shot. I really need to up resistances, respec everything, get better items, and just learn how to play a game like this. Poison Pathfinder Ranger is slowly falling off, especially since armor is nonexistent. Maybe I'll reroll and go for more ice or lightning build. Or try something else entirely.
Evasion as a defense is fundamentally flawed and always has been. No matter how much evasion you stack you can always get get one-shotted and it's harder to build health. Meanwhile Energy Shield scaling is absolutely cracked. You can be running around with 10k ES pretty easily and as the game is set up those are considered "equivalent" defenses. Sure 90% chance to take no damage sounds great, but when it means you die instantly 10% of the time, it's... a lot less great. ES works basically against everything. Armor is also great Effective Hitpoints a lot of the time. Evasion is the best defense until it isn't and then it's literally no defense at all. Just a number example. Let's say an attack does 5k damage. ES can easily scale over 5k and can tank the hit. Armor (assuming it can work against said attack) will drop that from 5k to a 2.5k hit. Probably survivable. Evasion rolls a D100 and either takes 5k or takes 0. Of all those options Evasion is by far the worst for sudden one shots and always will be. You can never hit 100% so there is always the chance you'll just instantly die. And of course stacking health isn't super easy anymore either, especially for a class that isn't all in on Strength. So really Evasion just has to not get hit. Ever. Because getting hit is often a 20%+ chance of just dying. And that ignores stuff you can't Evade which is a lot of stuff. There is some node that lets you Evade those too, but it also tanks your Evasion, so again an issue. Stuff like Mind Over Matter and whatnot also exist assuming you can get to them, but Evasion itself is in many ways a flawed defense stat by its nature and always will be. The solution is usually "just kill everything so nothing can actually attack you" which leads to a "dump defenses because you'll die anyway" spiral. TLDR: Evasion is kind of a crap defense stat, stacking Life isn't realistic for non-Str-based builds past a certain point and there probably isn't any real solution unless stacking health becomes a lot easier to do.
Are you a ranger too? I've started to notice more and more one shots, even in Cruel Act 2 and it's a bit annoying. I can beat bosses, but I need a bit of luck with their mechanics and I have to have on point dodging/hugging the boss. Makes me want to jump to some other class, which is a shame because I like Ranger as a whole.
@@Sephvion I was a Monk who went heavier into Evasion, but I remember running into it in PoE1 a bit. I think there are options on the tree to help mitigate it, but ultimately you're rolling a die.
Hey Ruri i know we've argued about difficulty but im here to say sorry and that you're one of my new favorite channels! Most your takes are rational compared to other content creators. Glad i stumbled upon you through Gaijin Hunter! Definitely gonna be watching when Wilds drops as well. Oh and now im in act 2 with my warrior and I got better gear, the game feels much better. Guess that was a skill issue and lack of knowledge/good gear. My shield will be up for more content on PoE2 and MH 🛡
7:41, "Does blocking not exist?". Oh boy, we'll come back to this one. 7:41, "Ok we need to address this strong build thing". I know it hurts, but you picked one of the safest and strongest builds in the game. So did I. I'm also a grenade merc. So is almost everyone who plays merc. Why? Because not only is it cool, but most of the other skills fucking suck. Some people aren't aware of the meta. Some people don't want to look up build guides. You just really lucked out that the build you naturally picked is one of the strongest. 7:49, "There's also blocking". Hold on, we'll get there. "I'm only in low tier maps, I've barely needed to dodge roll". ...my brother in christ. We watch you on stream. You dodge roll all the time. You're supposed to. What are you even talking about? "Rurikhan you can't block with bows. Yes you can! I can block with crossbows, why can't you block with bows? You put your shield in your offhand and you fucking block, just like I do." Here it is. JuSt FuCkInG bLoCk! .... You can block, with your shield, because you're a MERCENARY. A STR/DEX CLASS. He's a ranger. Ranger's are DEX/INT. Shields require strength. They don't take strength. Endgame rangers don't have much strength. They ain't blocking chief. 8:00, "Who are these high tier dodge rollers, there was no dodge roll in POE1". Correct, there were other forms of mitigation. In POE2, you're expected to dodge roll. Miss one by a centimeter and you can die. It's fairly obvious to anyone that that's what he means. Miss a single dodge roll, by not being a super skilled high apm player, and you die. Which leads to... "I mean, attacks that hit you really hard need to be telegraphed, 100%". Well, boy do I have a story for you. There's a whooooole lotta things that you hit you really hard that either aren't telegraphed, or the telegraph is damn near impossible to see. Again, acknowledged by GGG, agreed with by you, but when Paul says it, lets shit on him. 8:08, The what hope do any of us have incident. Little cringey, sure. But you're playing a game and gettin real frustrated. You're getting one shot, getting to the end of a map that took you 20 minutes deep and getting killed by some shit you didn't see and you're pissed off. You go see what the pros are saying. And they're also saying it's a bunch of bullshit. Well idk... if I'm wiping like a mofo on Uber Diamond Fatalis, and I pull up Team Darkside and they're saying this boss is bullshit, it kinda confirms my feelings that I ain't gonna do so well. Kinda kills your enthusiasm. 8:13, "Dude, Kripparian making a video was enough for you to stop playing?". No you disingenuous...... Having a shitty experience and then seeing that the experience doesn't get better, being said by a literal PRO player, was enough to get him to stop playing. 8:21, "It's not always about getting stronger, it's about overcoming the challenge." And how do you overcome the challenge Rui? I'll let you answer that... "Getting stronger is necessary for tackling the next thing." Yeeeeeah? Did you think he wants to get stronger... JUST to get stronger? The whole point of the game is to get stronger to be able to tackle the next thing. Do you actually believe he is so stupid that he doesn't realize that? 8:51, "I keep hearing this, arrrgh melee so hard...". So you keep hearing melee is hard, so much so that streamers are quitting melee classes, but somehow your anecdotal experience proves everyone else wrong and also somehow makes Paul wrong. Very strange. (Also GGG acknowledged melee was too hard). "I was doing fine until I got one tapped by those stupid purple flowers that have since got nerfed." Soooo one taps DO exist?! AND they got fixed? But game is easy and Paul is just crying right? 9:05, 'You played HOW MUCH of endgame? You said Tier 3 maps XTiddie?' also, "I am probably THE most casual of POE2 players". Did he say he quit after 1 hour? Or was he trying to say he experienced a big jump in frustration between cruel and maps? And how many hours of POE2 have you played so far? That's not casual. And again, you lucked out in that your 'hodgepodge' build is basically the merc meta build and one of the strongest in the game. There's more but I'm getting bored. Virtually everything he said was demonstrably correct. Many of his criticisms were acknowledged and addressed by the patch, which is literal fucking proof that what he and many, many others were saying, was true. Yet you purposely queued up this video, already primed and ready to dunk on him, for the express purpose of memeing on him for content. That is what the chatter at 1:13:44 of your vod meant. Yes, you are doing the Asmongold thing. I've watched you for years, since your Horizon Zero Dawn streams. You have taken a sharp dive into the right wing political bullshit the past couple years where you used to be very anti-politics. Coincidentally, it's funny that Asmon and the rest of the rightwing gaming sphere shit all over Horizon and Aloy but since you like it for whatever reason you won't join them in that. One of the main reasons I've liked your content for so long was BECAUSE there wasn't a lot of politics in it. It's so fucking boring hearing about wokeness. Now I'm just waiting for the GO WOKE GO BROKE, DEI CHARACTER thumbnails to start popping up. I know it's more profitable to do so, the antiwoke grift is profitable as all hell, but I, and it sounds like some others, really hope you don't go further down that road. Edit: Someone I was chatting with told me about your Mythic Banter channel that I somehow completely forgot existed. Checked it out. It all makes sense now why you went after Tassi. He's one of the 'wokies' I guess. Wild. So you just keep the WOKE thumbnails and DEI topics over there so it doesn't affect the main channel right? Smart business I reckon. It's really fuckin sad how much right wing politics has infected everything. But I guess ya do what ya gotta do for them clicks and views.

you should get evasion as ranger not armor, evasion can dodge both physical attack and spells

Ruri what’d you think of Consort’s frame trap getting patched out?
It doesn’t do anything since the roll change so it’s pretty pointless, no traps actually work anymore that I’m aware.
@rurikhan, they need to find a workaround for that change, those mechanics were great, and we need more of them
