I bought the Mojave because I’m so impressed with Giant Loop’s Coyote bag on my Africa Twin. They are both mfg’d in the USA, that was important to me and I expected to pay more. Water resistance is also important because I live in a coastal rainforest with 50-100 inches of rain per year.
Great review. Really enjoy your presentations.

One word I would use to describe you is: objective. So, in my humble opinion, no one in their right mind would ever doubt that the one you express is your honest opinion and that you're being nothing but objective when you share your verdict when comparing items or bikes.
In short, that fact that I trust you is one of the reasons why I value your content and I keep coming back for more. Keep it up, your work is appreciated here!

I've been running the Mojavis for 2 years now on multiple bikes and haven't experienced the flopping issue you describe. I think it has a lot to do with where you mount the straps, the angle, etc... I did have a chance to test out the Traverse bags and was very impressed with them for the price.

I have the Mojavi mounted on my FE501S and it flops around horribly. I've tried adjusting positions and angles and nothing makes a difference. If you have a solution, I'd be interested in hearing about it because I hate the Mojavi. It moves around so much that it wore heavy scars in my plastics after 5 days of riding in the desert. Also, in a super light on off mist/rain, my tools develops rust while in the Mojavi bag so I wouldn't even call them resistant.

I have the Tusk bags for a year now, I purchased them on a recommendation from an other RUclipsr. They are great for the money, great small bags, perfect for day rides to carry your essential, basically replacement for a backpack. I use the Tusk bags on a BMW G310gs , now I had to modify them to fit the bike, the straps that go on top of the seat are too short for my bike, so I just cut them off, and added longer straps through the D rings, also I had to add a sort of an saddlebag luggage rack/ backing to prevent them from flopping around. No need for a heat shield in mine application. Now I have used this bags also as a tank panniers for my 2016 Africa Twin DCT , mounted over my upper crash bars, and they did great. This Tusk bags look a lot bigger than what they are, don’t think that you can load them with too many things, as I said on their own only a day bags. I would like to see some mole webbing added to this bags so you can have the option to attach small accessories bags or something small to them. Another great video Ian , thanks, and keep them coming.

Tusk Traverse bags are a great system but if you get caught in a heavy storm like I did then waters getting in! None the less, I don't carry much important in them and it lightens the load on my camelback to mostly just water. The small duffel that can be attatched to a rear baga helps create more carry room on multi day rides. I have switched the Traverse between two bikes at about 15 days riding so far. Good product, just wish they were waterproof.

I have the GL Mojavi bags and they have been good. If I had it to do over again I’d buy the traverse simply based on value. I don’t have the flopping issue you describe with the Mojavi bags, and I frequently ride off pavement with my WR250R. The Mojavi’s were a huge improvement over using a tail bag. I generally find that I like GL products but don’t buy many anymore because there are other high quality alternatives for half the price or even less sometimes. In particular, both Tusk and Nelson Rigg are excellent quality and have proven to be very durable.

Useful comparison, thank you. I bought the Tusk bags (before I saw your vid, sorry didnt use your link or I would have used it as you always have fair, good content) for a 22 Beta RR-S 500, and because of the new rear under the fender grip handles you need longer straps to hook up the rear cross strap because the new design prevents the metal hooks from grabbing onto the fender where you have it mounted. I made it work by moving the hooks to behind the turn signals but I'll need to load up the bags and hit the trails to see if it stays with the straps that far back. I suspect I'll end up mounting some metal strap loops on the fender so the straps aren't so long. Easy fix and the loops will also help secure my 2G Giant Loop Armadillo bag. (Which btw easily roll up and store in the tusk bag with a lot of room to spare when emptied)

I was fortunate enough to find a Giant Loop Gen 1 Great Basin bag locally and unused for $100. I can attest to the durability and waterproofing of that material as I live n the infamously moist PNW. The only thing I struggle with is the mounting of that 1st Gen bag, otherwise it is absolutely amazing. If the current Mojave material is as good or better than the original I would argue it is a must for wetter climates if you chose to ride in the rain.

Just ordered a set of the Tusk; thanks as always for the excellent review!
You can't go wrong with Giant Loop stuff, either. I have a Coyote bag for my ADV bike and it's definitely built to last; probably a lifetime purchase for the amount of riding I do. That said, you have to decide whether you _actually_ need the durability and are willing to pay for it. I doubt I could wear out the Tusk bags in 10 years as a weekend warrior, but a real "around-the-worlder" might, and the GL might indeed be a better choice for them. For me, it's kinda like buying the $100 "mil-spec" flashlight when the $20 one would do just fine.

I can't speak directly for these bags, but I purchased the Tusk Olympus panniers and tusk duffle bag for my Africa Twin. I was on a trip recently through the Ozark National forest and they performed great. I had rain most of the days of my trip and everything stayed dry. The construction held up great. The main reason I selected the Tusk over others was the price, so much cheaper. But having used them I'm extremely satisfied.

  • @ThisTall
    @ThisTall 11 месяцев назад

I bought both of these and tried them both out in the last month on short and multi day rides on a exc500
And although I like the extra pocket on the Traverse bag, I’d say I definitely like the Giant loop better.
For 1, the Traverse aren’t actually water proof, just water resistant, and even though they fill out wider, their shorter length prevents me from fitting longer items like my tire spoon, and the Mojave could.
I did do multiple overnight trips with the tusk with the extra roll top bag and it did it’s job well.
The biggest difference between the 2 for me, is the mounting.
There’s a ton of straps and fitting and adjusting going on with the Tusk and it takes a while to get it mounted right.
Whereas the Mojave goes on with equal or greater security, in under a minute.
And it’s also not nearly as in the way across the top of the seat the way the traverse straps are. And it’s straps are overall much more sturdy.
    Clear win for me.

Bought the Tusk Traverse, mounted to my 300 XC. I guess I got too frisky in the whoops as the front strap tore out of the bag on one side in less than a mile. They could work if you carry very light load or if one never tries to do whoops at a decent pace with the bags on. I had about 4 pounds in each side when the strap failed. The problem is fatal so they are currently in the trash can.
It is too bad the straps and their mounting to the bags are so light, as the rest of the bag seems to be decent enough for the money and I did like how tight to the bike they were and the organization offered by the sub compartments as Ian pointed out.
I have a Tusk tail bag strapped to a tail rack on my 701 Enduro, that has been working well and it also a great value. I can't recommend the Traverse bag though.
On a side note, I also was running a Tusk T-35 front tire, which worked absolutely awesome in the dry western conditions that I was riding in.

I ruined the sewn straps on my giant loop loop bags after my second ride when they somehow touched the mid pipe. They really need to incude some kind of heat shield solution for the strap in general with these bags which loop close the mid-pipe. Went with the Nelson Rig Trails End and they have held up well on a couple trips.

I looked at the Tusk Expedition soft panniers for my KLR 650 w/ Dirt Racks rear crashbars. I ended up buying the Rinowalk 14L x 2ea panniers. For my use they look they will do well until they hit asphalt or gravel.
There is nothing special or "neat" about the Rinowalk. Its basically a single compartment drybag with a roll down top.
For someome going motocamping a few times a year and not beating the single track trails it should last a few years or longer. The vinyl is heavy duty. The straps are long and may be trimmed if desired.

The tusk, I burned the lower strap into the muffler. It also got dirt trapped between the bag and the rear plastics turning the white plastic into a gritty brown after it ground in dirt. Never dropped the bike with the bag on, it just did that from dust from following others.

I like that you're starting to do some accessories like these bags but I feel like picking the right tires is such a pain in the ass due to so many different models being similar and it being so challenging for newbies like myself to find the right tire. It doesn't help that most channels that do tire videos try to sell you on a certain model.
