This is the type of sparring we need to have across the board...with more hands, throws and take downs. Doesn't have to be KO rules (for those who are hobbyists), but continuous sparring (instead of the stop and go point fighting) should be the norm.
@@realemperorkuzco I'm speaking from a Tang Soo Do perspective, just neglected to mention that in my initial post. We do the typical karate stop and go point sparring. The only exception is in the Philippines, they do go all out and do continuous sparring from the videos I've seen.
I did WTF TKD and always hated wearing the body armour and headgear, loved sparring with the freedom of not wearing them. I like this, far more exciting than modern olympic fighting. I absolutely loathe the front leg, fencing 'kick' people are doing now it kills the fight dead, horrible, and frustrating to fight against,and boring to watch.... ban it please. Still didn't see many punches to the head though, taekwondo is always critised for this, quite rightly.
Also punching to the head is far easier than kicking. Mechanically speaking it'd be no different from boxing or kick boxing at that point. This encourages all the wonderful kicking discipline we see in tkd. It's not about just what's "effective", you have the entire Martial Art for that.
I always come back to this video. This is the road TKD should have gone down...

I mean Point Taekwondo is continuous, unlike Point Karate. It just doesn't use punches.

I would assume punches to the head would be banned given they are not wearing gloves like kyokushin
