      Thanks for the kind words. All those extra little keys have some meaning, even if we don't use them very often. It is nice to have them feel familiar for those rare moments when they really come in handy.

    I play flute and clarinet but am better on flute. I joined a community band and for balance they asked me to play clarinet. I'm getting back up to speed and your lessons are helpful, especially for some of the fast chromatic runs. Pretty soon clarinet will be my stronger instrument.

    Thank you for this video. I knew one of the patterns the upper register F & B. I know that there is an alternate fingering for B flat in the low register but I forgot what it was. The traditional lower registered B-flat sounds really flat when you play it with a pinch oh, I think there is a side key that you can use rather than the pinch

    Having the hardest time going from B natural to C sharp in a fast piece. (high notes)

    • @ClarinetMentors
      @ClarinetMentors  9 лет назад

      iYessicaH That is tricky. If you are discussing the middle of the staff, make sure you try alternating pinky hands (either right - left, or left - right). If you are describing an octave above that, you might try half holing the top finger on your left hand when you play the C sharp. This can make the transition feel a bit easier. If it is really fast (like trill speed) you might be able to use a trill fingering for C sharp by adding one of the right hand side keys.

    While l think about it, lm finding it very hard to come down from say top F, top E down to Eb/D# where l have to accurately find that weird key without a finger plate. Having to simultaneous hit the 3 right hand keys is so hard......any easier fingerings?

    why all tutorials on youtube show f-sharp as only index finger on the upper hole and f for only Thumb on the lower hole? On my clarinet this sound extremely strange and all fingering patterns i find are different from this. I'm trying to teach the clarinet to myself with online lessons/videos and its extremely hard to understand, why they all have a fingering, thats different from mine. Its especially hard, because noone writes, if he is using an a or a b clarinet. Or are there even other kinds in US or UK? I'd appreciate, if someone could tell me, why all fingering shards say "Thumb+Index-Finger+third keay (right hand) = F" and all tutorials say only thumb is f ? for me it's very confusing and I find no explanation :(

    is there a tip how to go fast from B to high C?

    • @ClarinetMentors
      @ClarinetMentors  9 лет назад

      Which octave do you mean? In general, the key to speed is to position your fingers so that they are relaxed, arched, and move as little as possible.

    • @proflob
      @proflob 9 лет назад

      Clarinet Mentors (Michelle Anderson) oh, i didn't expect you'd answer so quick! thanx! i learn by myself so excuse me if i'm expressing myself in confusing terms. I mean Bb as the last note of first octave (when you use only drop-like key) and then C of second octave when you have to use all fingers you have.
      so actually from A to Bb to C (high)

    • @ClarinetMentors
      @ClarinetMentors  9 лет назад

      That can be one of the most challenging fingerings on clarinet, but it is possible to train your fingers so that it feels much easier. These two videos will give you some pointers related to this:
      left hand position: ruclips.net/video/ZPtr_S04pGg/видео.html
      left thumb position: ruclips.net/video/-bItdikinm4/видео.html
      I hope that helps!

    are you naming the notes in concert pitch or sounding pitch?

    • @ClarinetMentors
      @ClarinetMentors  9 лет назад

      +brandolf harpoon I tend to name the notes in "clarinet pitch", that is, how they are written on a musical staff. That puts them a tone above concert pitch.

    • @mikecrawshaw3707
      @mikecrawshaw3707 8 лет назад

      +Clarinet Mentors (Michelle Anderson) Sorry to contradict, but surely Bb is a tone below concert pitch

    • @ClarinetMentors
      @ClarinetMentors  8 лет назад

      When I say "Bb" out loud, I mean a "Clarinet Bb", which is actually a concert Ab, so that puts it one note higher than concert pitch.

    • @roidrage11
      @roidrage11 8 лет назад

      +Clarinet Mentors (Michelle Anderson) why is that the tradition? is seems to just makes things so much more complicated.

    • @ClarinetMentors
      @ClarinetMentors  8 лет назад

      +brandolf harpoon Many people who only play clarinet alone do not even know what concert pitch is. It is confusing, especially for someone who has perfect pitch, or comes from a C pitched instruments. For my students with perfect pitch, I will add the label "Clarinet Pitch" or "Concert Pitch" so they know what I mean. Most teachers that I have had refer to notes in "clarinet pitch", because that is the name of the note as it is printed on the staff.
