I have to have my packing cubes and pouches. I can travel with just one bag for myself with room for my son's clothes. Frees up an extra bag for his special needs stuff.
It's crazy how much you can fit in just a personal item! I once packed different tops and skirts for each day of a 5-day trip (normally I'd re-wear bottoms, but I was taking photos) and managed to fit it all in there with packing cubes. So nice to not have to bring a whole suitcase
Remember that while packing for Europe it usually is necessary to put ALL of the liquids in the special bag - that includes mascara, eyeliner, liquid lipstick, perfume, everything that has the volume in fluid ounces or milliliters
We have the same rules in the USA. She was either not in the USA, or she was at risk of having her liquids thrown away at the security checkpoint. There are some exceptions for medical products that are liquid, however.
I was thinking the same. I'm currently packing for a trip so packing fluids is on the forefront of my mind. Everything that is not "dry" needs to be in one little TSA approved baggie or it risks getting tossed.
I find that so many young American RUclipsrs totally ignore the liquids rules in their videos that I’m starting to wonder if they even travel at all, or are just “creating content”. Or maybe they are just actually packing for a road trip.
I went to Nashville last year and only took a backpack. It made it so easy to go sightseeing in the time between hotel checkout and my flight later in the evening. I used the city bus to keep travel costs low, so I didn’t really have a convenient place to store luggage. Plus I forgot to pre-check-in for my return flight so there was limited space once I boarded. No problem putting it under the seat!
So grateful for this. Heading to Cyprus for 12 days with my parents in just over two weeks. As my Dad's mobility is not great i'm taking a rucksack in the hold and small carry on for additional items in the cabin so i can take care of my parents suitcases as well.
I love these minimal pack with me videos, I love that you only used one bag. That's my goal when traveling even in car traveling. I feel less stressed if I only take as little as I can.
My first time using one bag was on a family trip, it was a week long road trip and I was told there was only going to be a small space for luggage lol so all I took was a tote bag. I manage just fine and had 2 pairs of shoes.
Fyi. TSA opened my bag and told me things like toothpaste (it happened to be full size-I forgot, so take travel size!) and mascara are considered liquids. I have this backpack in lavender color, and it is great and roomy. Don't take rolling luggage anymore because they always at risk of being checked in if not enough room on plane. I just use this backpack and a fanny back across chest for easy phone/ passport/ essentials access. I always wear socks for travel day because it grosses me out to be barefoot going through security, or seeing it. Lol.
Love this so much!!! I’m a bit of a minimal travel packing nerd (been using the TB Synapse 19 for 5+ yrs) and it is SO refreshing to see a fellow 20 something women who does the same! Most of the RUclipsrs I’ve found who do this are only men…. And awesome you live in Charlotte as well 😊
A Synapse 19 is really minimalist and would fit as a personal item in pretty much all airlines. The backpack loadout in this video is a little large though. Some airlines have tiny dimensions for personal items that have to fit under the seat.
Love love love this video! I really enjoyed your previous one-bag travel video, I'm so happy to see an updated version! I just did a one-bag trip to Maine, but could definitely use some of your pieces of advice to update my methodology. Thank you!!
What do you pack for face skincare? That’s always the bulkiest of my toiletries. Moisturizer, SPF, hand sanitizer, and wipes are my essential for any trip.
Just what I needed this week! I am traveling to Washington state next weekend and I wanted to pack light. This is going to make my packing so easy! Thanks Ashlynne, you rock!
I so love this, Ashlynne. Thanks for the idea. You are truly an inspiration to everyone, especially to people who are fond of organization and decluttering. Keep on posting, please. Stay safe! 💙
duudee I love how your bag fits everything it's so convenient♥️ it's also good to travel light since its cheaper and has less envi impact. Would love to try this. Thanks for the video!
Love packing videos!! But you not packing a pair of leggings or jeans makes me anxious for the possibility that the weather changes...😂 I once went on a 34-day trip to Japan, traveling around with just a 40L backpack, with some room to spare for some souvenirs I might wanna take home. I love the challenge of packing minimal and only taking the essentials!
Thank you, Ashlynne. So glad I watched your video. I've been looking - and searched far and wide - for a review with this specific travel backpack. And the most awesome part is that I will also be traveling for 5 days.
In my daily life the clothing that I wear is maybe 2 different outfits per week, so when I travel I packed thinking the same plus 1 thin jacket in summer for night. Love seeing packing light bc is totally doable.
I was wondering this too and was scrolling through the comments to see if this question had been asked and answered. The smaller version looks like it would fit Ryanair’s parameters.
@@amiek9226 Hi Amie! I actually ordered both to see - the one she is showing in the video is the updated larger size. Not sure how it would do on Ryan Air, but the larger size worked as a personal item on spirit. :)
That's a great backpack for packing light! Do you have a weight allowance for carry-on luggage? In Australia, our airlines only allow a combined weight of 7kg for carry-on. That's always the trickier part than whether I can fit everything in.
I’m not from Australia nor Canada, but as far as I remember while traveling internationally, backpacks and personal carry-ons usually have to fit into this cube. If it fits, then there should be no problem.
WOW! Ashlynn, I have been obsessively watching packing videos for my upcoming trip to Ireland. I'm so happy that I stumbled upon yours! I love how you get right to the point, show us each individual item of clothing - with links as well - and then show us how you fold them and exactly where you put them in your bag. Your videos are so helpful, so well paced, and so soothing. Thank you so much for taking the time to show us how to pack like a pro.🥰
I love your packing videos. Especially the backpack ones. I managed a 2 weeks summer vacation with the same kind of backpack. Only thing that went into my partner's carry on was my snorkeling equipment. 😁
I just bought a very similar backpack for an upcoming flight. Boyfriend and i are traveling to a friend’s wedding, and our plan is to share a checked bag (did this for a trip last year and it worked great) and then have our own personal items. I think I’ll use the backpack as my personal item and pack my wedding outfit in it. I’m always so paranoid about my checked bag not reaching my destination lmao.
Thank u Ashlynne for all your videos you help me make my crazy life more easy and organized. Without your videos I was a mess and all over the place. I’ve learned a lot from you! Your a blessing! Thank u!
A tip for folding bikinis: Instead of folding the cups and wrapping the bottoms around, I suggest putting them inside, so the cups stay intact. Works with bras as well - like a shell basically
This reminds me of when I went to London for three days with my family and all of us had a small backpack. It was so hot and we carried the backpack around for half a day. We got Starbucks first thing in the morning on the first day walked half way across London to get to our hotel and then we were off again.
I packed my backpack a few times and had so much in it I couldn't carry it. My husband had to carry mine and I carried his which was lighter. I admire people who can pack so efficiently. I do love my packing cubes for my suitcase.
Hey Ashlynne, I also try to pack less when travelling and I love your videos about it. But especially when it comes to travelling by plane I am a little bit surprised how you are getting through the security check without problems. Whenever I travelled it was said that makeup counts as liquids too and your handcream and perfume is a liquid as well. Maybe over there rules are different or I wasn't well informed. Would be great to get some information about it 🙂 Thank you! ❤
I’ve noticed that American airports are far more relaxed about liquid allowance items than Canada. For Americans going outside their borders be sure you can fit perfumes, hand cream, lipglosses in the liquid bag. I saw a traveller from the States hung up in one of our airport security areas having to throw out several items that she couldn’t fit in the liquid bag. She was in tears- having come into Canada with them from the States, now going home. She kept saying that she had been allowed to travel from the States with them.
I noticed this as well, as in the USA you are required to put any type of liquids, gels, pastes, etc. into the clear quart-sized bag. The packing as shown here would not be acceptable at the security check-point.
honestly, every time I travel within the states I just leave all my travel-size liquids in a clear pouch inside my suitcase. I have never been flagged or asked to remove them!
Loved this video! I’m have a couple of weekend trips coming up, so this was super helpful! I was also wondering if you got the small backpack or the large backpack!
Love this! Pretty much do this now with my normal clothes in a backpack as my personal item. I still have to travel with a suitcase with my regalia as I’m a pow wow dancer. So i can usually get two jingle dresses, one camp dress, the beadwork I plan on dancing in, my turkey feather fan and two sets of moccasins. It all fits into my carryon! No checked baggage! 😁
Wow this was amazing. I as well am a neat organized packer, however I still tend to over pack. This was a great balance. I don’t travel with electronics so my bag should be lighter. Ima save this video as a reminder, stop over packing.

@@AshlynneEaton Ashlynne, thanks for the video its so well done.
