The beep at 5:41 is Gura saying shindeiru which in Japanese means dead. They tend to beep out words pertaining to violence or death bc suicide rates are really high in Japan.

Great video. Lot's of covers of King, but I think Callie & Gura really put their own style on it, more than others (who stayed closer to the original). Mature older sister and bratty kid energy - both just having a ball with the song. Two buds kicking it.

  • @effortlessfury
    @effortlessfury 2 года назад +33

When it comes to the credits, they're not inherently specific to vTubers, it's mostly in how one decides to produce their track and MV. In the case of this MV:
All of the art (Calli, Gura (and their variants used throughout the video), the backgrounds, etc.) was drawn by LAM.
The Music Video (the changing between different pieces of art (such as lighting up the colored side based on who is singing) as well as the lyrics on screen) was done by Calli herself.
The song was originally created by kanaria but the specific arrangement of instruments for this version was done by たかはし.
The mix of the instrumental and vocals was done by なつめ千秋.
Really, that's a reasonably sized team. You need someone to produce/arrange the track and someone to mix it. You need someone to draw the art for the MV and you need someone to put the MV together. You could have people wear multiple hats if you wanted, such as a track producer/arranger who also mixes the track, or an MV maker who creates their own art for the MVs, but each project calls for a different team composition based on circumstances.

Alright, so I realize last time I apologized for the long comment, but this time it might be quite lengthy, but I'm gonna try to answer as many of your questions as possible. *Anyone who has conflicting knowledge can please correct me.
One quick thing is when pronouncing Gawr Gura, people normally just call her Gura, but you can pronounce Gawr as if there is no "w", more or less (Gar).
From my understanding, when it comes to Hololive, Nijisanji, or other company/contract based VTubers, they don't always get to choose the model that they use for streaming. They may have some say in certain aspects of the design creation, but its mainly up to the company or artist creating the model. But honestly I believe that is what makes the streamers even more impressive is how they can embrace and completely embody their models and make them their own.
Another quick note is the beep that you heard in the video is most likely them censoring the word "Shindeiru", which I believe means "Dead" in Japanese. This was likely not necessarily their decision but the fact that it might've been censored in the original song. Or their Japanese company may have wanted to censor the word.
Now, as far as songs go, there are quite a few very good songs across all of the Hololive JP (Japanese) girls, a lot of them have one or two songs that are very catchy or very fun/popular.
    1. "Say Fanfare!" by Shirakami Fubuki
    2. "Donten Hitsuji" byTsunomaki Watame
    3. Nichijou Cover "Hyadain No Joujou Yuujou" by Inugami Korone and Nekomata Okayu
    4. "PekoMiko Daisenso!!" by Usada Pekora and Sakura Miko
    5. "Ahoy" by Houshou Marine
All of these songs, while different are very showing of each of the different personalities of the girls singing them. Weather, remaining positive, being expressive, showing support for others, battling their rivals, or just being a happy, horny, pirate (Ahoy), if you know you know, they are all awesome songs!
Like I said, long comment, but I hope you were able to get a lot of possible questions answered, and I'm glad you enjoyed their cover of King, as it is definitely one of the most personality filled renditions. Either way, great video, and can't wait until the next!

As far as the models go, you are largely correct for those companies. They own the models and characters, which is why they disappear after "graduation". The only one I can think of that breaks that mold is Suisei. Her model and character predate her joining Hololive and she insisted they allow her to keep it as a condition of her hiring.
She is also an artist that I would gladly recommend her entire catalog for reaction.

To answer your question about Vtubers, agency vtubers like Calli and Gura tend to have a measure of physical accuracy, elsewise when they get their 3D model there are issues with rendering their correct size. For instance Calli and Noel both have large breasts. Matsuri has very large and deep-set eyes. Kara's mouth is actually pretty big, etc etc. (Also of note its typically taboo to talk about the person behind the avatar, but for the sake of this message im only mentioning vtubers who have streamed as themselves willingly). Other vtubers, especially independents, dont have this restriction. There is even a vtuber on twitch that is literally just a gun with eyes. If you can design it you can become it. My personal favorite Vtuber, Snuffy, has had several different models over the years ranging from Pink UwU Catgirl, gray stoner raccoon, to flat and athletic cyberpunk girl, to massive mommy milkers, to even a pony in a jar. Vtubing is freedom.

Okay so just some help for ya! Gawr is pronounced more like Gar. I mean it's actually difficult for Westerners to pronounce without being told it multiple times because it has a Japnese inflection that we don't really use in English but Gar is fine!
She just goes by Gura tho. In Japan it's family name first, given name second so the reverse of what we're used to. So her name is actually Gura Gawr so that's why she just goes by Gura!
Calli and Gura are both insanely talented. All the EN girls are but Calli, Gura and Irys are basically the singers of Hololive EN, that is to say they do the most musical work. Calli and Irys have released multiple songs, Irys and Gura do a ton of karaoke streams and all 3 have released the most music related content out of the EN girls so far! If you see people talking about EN singing, Calli, Gura and Irys will be the names you'd see the most because they're basically always singing/karaoke streaming!

    • @platrich
      @platrich 2 года назад +1

I think you definitly need to add Kiara to the singers of Hololive EN list. She also does a lot of karaoke and has the most original songs and covers after Calli and Irys. Gura really doesn't do much music beside karaoke streams. For comparison Gura has only one original song (and one feat. with Calli) and did this Cover with Calli and one with Kiara (maybe I forgot something, but she definitly didn't release that many songs), while Kiara has three original songs and did a collab cover with every HoloMyth Member and a few solo Covers. And they both are part of the two Holomyth original songs with all members.
Sorry for the mistakes I definitly did. English is only my second language.

Yeah. The art for this one is really cool. The artist for this, LAM, actually is the character designer for another Hololive member called Ollie.
When it comes to the designs, as another commenter said it’s really more the decision of the company and the character artists they hire, but one interesting thing that does seem to always be dependent on the performer, at least for Hololive, is size. Because Hololive has the talent perform on stage in live shows and probably don’t want to have to constantly rescale everyone, the vtuber character is always the same height as the talent behind them. So for Gura for instance, she really is quite small (4’7”). Calli on the other hand is more of an average height (5’6”).
As for JP recommendations, I believe I suggested some Watame songs before. A few others I recommend would be:
    Ghost by Hoshimachi Suisei
The Last Frontier by Hoshimachi Suisei and AZKi
    Kotonoha by Roboco
    Shallys by Aki Rosenthal
    Howling by Ookami Mio
Mogu Mogu Yummy by Nekomata Okayu
    Weather Hackers by Kiryu Coco
Madoromi by Amane Kanata and Tokoyami Towa
Blue Clapper by Hololive Generation 5
Kiseki Knot by Hololive Generation 4

  • @jotusmas4038

To try to answer your question about the vtuber designs, the vtuber would commission artist for the model and rigging for the model. Side note: some vtubers will call the model artist and rigger their pseudo parents. If they are in an agency like hololive, then the company might own the rights of the model. If you are independent, so long as you have the license to the model and rigging it's all yours. Just remember you can't steal other models as they are protected by copyright laws.
I hope that answered a couple questions of yours. They are basically like any other content creator with a vitural avatar.

I highly recommend you check out Hoshimachi Suisei. She just released a new song today for her birthday called Template.
0:41 Illustration refers to the main concept art for the music video, movie refers to the actual animation, and arrangement refers to the person who did the instrumentals. This is a cover of the original vocaloid song by Kanaria.
Tbh, it’s not my favourite cover of this song. I get that they were just having fun with it, but it just didn’t land for me.
Also 5:38 they beeped out the word “shi” which means die. That was done in the original as well. The translation of the lyrics there according to the vocaloid wiki is “when you laugh admirably, all of my pain disappears and I’m able to die clumsily”

I've heard a few covers of King before Calli and Gura gave their take on it.
Many wonderful Hololive voices brought different vibes and tune to the same song, but when it comes to Calli, she always puts some sort of a twist and a portion of extra Rap to the covers she does.
So you'll know - the english part was not there originally, it's all Calli's doing.
And honestly, without that rap I can't watch other covers of King anymore, they don't feel complete!
And of course, I can't go without a healthy dose of samegaki (brat-shark) energy that Gura provides aplenty. :D
She was the one that came up with whispering layer and boy it gives me shivers every time I hear it. x3
You're gonna LOVE their original duet-song [Q], I'm sure of it.
It's just FULL of their energy, badassness, drive and dorkiness bundled together.

At least the first time do it in one go, later if you want to address specific parts it's good to go pausing and giving breakdowns.

The artist for this video, LAM, has a characteristic style, with a contrast of colors with gray, wioh worked really well here.
The artist behind this song (the original, not this cover, I mean), Kanaria, works with Vocaloid, wich you might know, are synthetic voice banks for digital singing.
There's a culture of cover songs, especially with vtubers, where one artists releases a song, and it makes a wave effect with lots of covers, and an increase in originality in the videos and covers. In the case of King, it starts with a 'simple' video wich ends getting a lot of cool video renditions (like Hololive Indonesia Reine's cover with a remix, or PochiMaru's with a really cool 3D video) and over the top vocals (like Nijisanji's Banderas one, or Zen's rap version)
For more songs recomendation I'd say:
    - Kanaria's "Eye" (or covers of it, like Hololive's Tokoyami Towa or Takane Lui)
-"Goddish" (covered by Hololive's Murasaki Shion, Laplace Darkness and Kanata&Aqua)
    -"Error" cover by Towa
As for Hololive Originals I'd recomend:
-Any Mori Calliope originals (especially "Red" and "Ijimekko Bully")
    -Tokoyami Towa's “Pallette"
    -Gawr Gura's “Reflect"
    Enjoy the music! C:

To answer the question that you ask at roughly 5:00, In some cases in Hololive the talents did have the ability to choose / create the design the character that they would be personifying, but in most cases the design has already been done. Cover (the parent company to Hololive Production), holds auditions for the different branches of HoloLive (JP, Stars [JPs male branch], ID, and EN) to find the one person who will fit the characters perfectly or as perfectly as possible. After the individuals pass through the auditions, they have the ability to make *small* changes to the existing design or suggest changes. But Cover and the artist have all rights to refusing to make those changes. After roughly 6 months or so the newly debuted Hololive talents will get new outfits (such as casual outfits). Those outfits the talents will have more creative control over.
A perfect example of the character design and its details already existing would be Gawr Gura. The character is very short. Shorter than 5 ft. She is the 3rd shortest Hololive character. The talent behind Gawr Gura is also short. While we dont know her true height, the stories she has told us suggest that she is very short. Such as security stopping her at the air port because they think she is a child. So that leads us to believe that her height and the height of the character is nearly identical. Matching the height of the character to the height of the talent is also important because all Hololive talents will get 3d models eventually and to avoid 3d rigging scuff, it helps if the talent is the same height and proportions as the model in question.

I was actually wondering why all the hololive songs, especially for your "other language" category are by Calli and Gura from Hololive EN and not any from Hololive ID or JP. I recommend Tokoyami Towa, Tsunomaki Watame and Hoshimachi Suisei, as they are my favourite from JP musically speaking. Towa's original song Palette, and her cover of ERROR are both great, Watame's original songs Ai Mai Chocolate and Mayday Mayday are two personal favourites of mine, and there isn't much you can go wrong with Suisei, but my choice would be Stellar Stellar for her.
I also highly recommend Ado, for Japanese music. Her songs Ussewa (うっせぇわ), Gira Gira (ギラギラ), Odo (踊) and Readymade (レディメイド) are all amazing, and I think most of them have english captions available if you were interested in knowing what the songs say. Readymade specifically kinda has that swing music vibe similar to Graveyard shift that I think you'd enjoy.
I also thought it was interesting that one of the most unique versions of King is the one you reacted to, so you don't even have the baseline for how different it is LOL Like, the english rap at the start and between verses is completely original to their cover.
