    I got my Fender Mustang Micro right at a year ago and it is my absolute favorite late night practice amp. I never even knew there were bumpers on the back to protect the guitar finish when I purchased mine. If anyone is concerned about that, Dylan shows views of the back and you can see them plainly. While I live in the country and the nearest neighbor is almost a mile away, sound does travel better at night and a lot better late at night. The nearest neighbors are very early risers, like 0500 risers, definitely not appreciative of late night practice sessions with a real amp. I also memorized the colors of my preferred amps, effects, sound. As it turns out, my favorite amps are the Fender Twin (Reverb) and Fender Deluxe (Reverb). Perhaps that gives insight into why the first time I heard of your channel with the Aaron Short Music / DylanTalksTone joint PRS Silver Sky SE broadcast, I immediately subscribed to your channel. Since I don't record so I never gave that a thought. It's great that you pointed out that the Mustang Micro can also be an interface. Obviously, I'm very happy with my purchase of the Fender Mustang Micro. Another very informative video, Dylan. Please keep these coming!!!

    Something unexpected about this amp, is that it now provides a Bluetooth receiver for your nice wired headphones that you can't plug into your phones anymore. The 1/4" jack doesn't have to be plugged into an instrument to work, so just stick it in your pocket ✌️

      @@probassguitarsound not only that but it's rather great fidelity and powerful. stands pretty well on its own as a music playback device when compared to a fiio btr5 and can drive big impedance headphones for sure, since with even the 50 ohms open back ones I cannot increase its volume past halfway because it gets too loud. You just have to be careful not to touch the tip and side of the guitar input jack when the volume's up as you'll get something very unpleasant and while at it make sure to set it on the clean amp option when using as music player.

    I ARORE my mustang micro. Even without headphones, a lot of times I plug it into the aux on my Bluetooth speaker, and it's fantastic. Literally, guitar, amp, and speaker, can all go in one gig bag. I can't say enough about it, I love it so much.

    Totally agree with you. I've got a couple of the Vox plugs which have variable effect settings, but only one amp type. This thing blows them out of the water. Less is more, they say, and this is no exception. The effects, although limited in configuration, are right on spot.
    The amp selection together with the usb recording is a killer feature. It's so easy to record an idea with one's cellphone, it's amazing. I like to take bike rides with my guitar, or should I say a six string on my back 😉. But I'd curse myself for forgetting that one idea once I got back home. Not anymore, not anymore.

    I owned a Rockman back in the '80s, which was, I believe, the first portable headphone amp. It was an exceptional invention and a groundbreaking product introduction for its time, with two built-in gain stages, excellent basic reverb and a lush chorus effect. The Fender Mustang is easily the best of the new generation of headphone amps and I'm really loving how it interacts with my Strat, Tele, and Les Paul. The only downside -- if you could call it that -- is that it doesn't have a wireless headphone option which puts a bit of a damper on an otherwise amazing cable-free experience. Kudos to Fender for this amazing and highly affordable accessory that every guitarist should own

    Anyone remember the Korg Pandora's Box from the 90's ? It was great it had two quarter jacks input and output... But also 3.5mm jack, charging port and 2 AA battery... That was beyond cool and it sounded great... You could plug in anywhere and play... Or run it to the four track and lay down a riff you want to work on later... I took it on the tour bus, playin while my girlfriend was in bed or went to the park for relaxing... That was great just play botherin nobody

    Already got 1 when the launched, they are absolutely fantastic little amps for headphones, I was surprised though they didn't push a package with the Fender IEMs but Shure's or Westones work just fine, there are also some incredibly cheaper brands that are really really good just try to make sure they are neutral in sound profile otherwise it ends up a bit weird when you are dialing something in later.

  • @michaelinglis8516
    @michaelinglis8516 2 года назад +2

    I've built that exact Amazon klon clone (Prolandtone/TTone) and I've used it on my board ever since I built it 3 years ago. The extra gain mod on a footswitch is absolutely fantastic for a stacked overdrive tone and it's only a resistor change. I tried every mod including separate gain and level but they were all a downgrade cause the klon is designed so well. But the extra gain mod on a footswitch is killer. I added a gain pot and level control that only acts on the boost side(extra gain mod) and it's perfect. But even stock it's just fantastic klon tones. I traced the whole circuit against the ElectroSmash schematic and the only issue is that the polarity protection wasnt connected cause the traces had a design error but a jumper will fix that so definitely verify the traces, hopefully they fixed it but even without the jumper the pedal works fine. But the polarity protection wont work without a jumper, so either fox the trace or be careful not to use center positive power.. Other than that it's very accurate. Great kit! Good call Dylan!

  • @nevillecragg9066

    The only thing it needs is a built in overdrive button. I play with backing tracks and can’t always use the same setting… or flick through four amps to get to the lead tone, then back.
    Yes I know it works with pedals, I use it as the output on my helix 90% of the time. But out in the garden = no overdrive.
    It is great though… I love it. Ps mine hummed initially, but the latest firmware on it solved that. Well worth the price

    I got one early on and I really like it. I use it for guitar, but mainly for bass. It works well for bass, mostly the first three or four presets plus the last (DI).
    It’s good that the stuttering noise issue was resolved with the first firmware update, yet some noise still exists. Not a deal breaker by any means though.
    Now I just wish and hope that Fender will eventually release a Rumble Micro (i.e. bass version)! 😁

It just makes alot of sense for practice when you're away, pack an inexpensive guitar, keep the device in the gig bag with some Dollar Tree shoe string earbuds +(a backup pair) zip it up and you can practice anywhere with your phone or tablet streaming backing tracks. And it sounds killer once you dial in your favorites. Any style of music, acoustic or electric and it sounds great! And no one is going to complain the amp is too loud. Great setup for condo or apartment to play anytime is the day or night. If your at home also check out the Presonus HD9 headphones that sounds great with it.

However, the sound and tone is quite inferior compared to a standard amp. And, contrary to your suggestion to use it in a guitar store to check out a possible purchase, I would not recommend it for this purpose as it would not adequately convey the quality of the tone of the pickups. i also have the Waza Air set. They aren't even in the same league. Our Airs can't be an interface, but they are much better in audio quality. my biggest gripe about the Fender headphone amp is the EQs are fixed, you cannot adjust Bass, Mids, and treble.

      I got both. The waza air sound much much better than the mustang into headphones, and you can't edit the sounds on the Fender. Tbh i find the Mustang Micro gives its best when you plug it into a full range speaker like a monitor, especially on the clean tones, the headphone sound lacks any ambient spatiality like any other amp headphones sound with the exception of the Waza Air, which are awesome.

    I got one, the clean sounds are nice. I'd say my waza air headphones sound much much better though. I like the Mustang micro out of a little full range speaker, then it sounds rather nice, plugging in headphones it lacks any spatiality and it's really "dry" like most amps phones out. Not ideal.

      It has a lot of latency, I would rather recommend the Positive Riff or a Countryman for that specifically as they have a bit more of an ecosystem behind them and allow you to record non-destructive recorded tracks, because your engineer will kill you otherwise.

    • @DylanTalksTone
      @DylanTalksTone  2 года назад

      @@DylanTalksTone Hahahah Prove it, With clinical proper data, I have already done the testing Mr. #teenagertwitterkeyboardwarrior , The RIff is much better as a PC interface than the mustang micro a Scarlett is Better, a CountryMan is even Better for what that allows you to do. I am going to say this time you are out of your area of expertise did you even test it with Apple and an enthusiast or workstation PC.

      Video coming on the riff. I haven’t been super impressed so far. Still working on it. In the end I’m sure I won’t keep it. A small focus rite is far better and honestly simpler to use. I DO like how the riff works with an iPad, which is the intended audience I think. It’s not for power users for sure. Makes sense at the price point. As far as using it with a proper Mac, it’s fine… but a focusrite makes more sense. As far as me being a “teenage twitter keyboard writer”, you should pay better attention before you try to coin an insult. VERY far from being any of those things… and I have a much thicker skin than you might assume.

      @@DylanTalksTone You deserved the insult for acting like a child, you were in the wrong and know it acting like a teen twitter warrior in response. uheh I have thick skin , go jump off a cliff that is exactly what you deserved in response, and the post is right there.
      So you agree with me then? I did the testing Mac and PC.
      The Riff is fine it does what it is supposed to and works well with the Grid software which is what it is meant to do, on sale its 99$, but like a Countryman it allows you to record non destructive music while sending the signal to an amp so you can hear it as you envision and record that from a XLR mic source to give the engineer how you want it to sound, you cannot do that with the Fender Micro Mustang, It really is a great headphone amp yeah you can use it as a PC interface bit that is not what it is meant for just an extra utility.
