In defense of NVIDIA , this is still in beta and its not train well enough for human face in low quality samples but when i tested it on a 480p vid without any human face i couldnt believe my eyes it was perfect. It almost looked like a 1080p vid to me and i love it. 100/10 Would recommend.

testing a bit not work on 144 and 240p resolution, or maybe the gpu load is very small upscaling from 144p and 240p, on both though i can see huge artifacts masking in some parts of the video, possibly the lower the resolution the lower gpu load/usage. but decent on 360p above. 360p feels like 720p while 480p feels like 1080 but they are not perfect, smooth but not sharp like original resolution, great though for anime, most of the artifact and screen tearing is not face but objects with patterns such as roof top using music video a thousand miles - vannessa carter
Hopefully nvidia will have a major leap with this just like dlss 1.0 to 2.0 , i'm using 1080p monitor and rtx 3050, the gpu load is there but not big like peoples said, on my rtx 3060 normal video playing eat 8w while a 480p eat 24w around 3x times of normal video playing using 3-4 quality setting

Here some my testing using 1080p monitor on rtx 3050
    1. Old video from 90s dont get any boost at all, if the source lacking detail there's almost no scaling at all
    2. Anime and 3d cartoon runs great with this you can see the difference just by using 360p
    3. 144p and 240p seems not working at all or too low, need 360p min to work, using 144p and 240p will result in screen tearing / artifacts masking
    4. The load in watt is varied scene by scene , on level 4 quality the gpu power draw jumps from 8 to 24watt on my rtx 3050 with max 130w so it eats around 20% of gpu capabilities
    5. Quality 2 vs 4 the difference is very minor but is there if you zoom but for watching qualitg 2 is fine
    6. Quality 2 vs 4 is averaging 18watt vs 24 watt in my rtx 3050 around 6 watt different
The rule is what upscaling tech based, a minimal detail / pixel required to enhance the quality
Hopefully nvidia also does MEMC function too 120fps for anime and 3d cartoon is very great

It over-smooths skin in motion and gives everything a bit of a painterly look to it similar to applying a make up filter on your phone. Hopefully over time they improve this like they do with DLSS and they can work on this sort of issue.

As a long time user of MadVR for up scaling to 4k. I called it back when VSR was first announced that AI ain't going to magically make low bitrate video on the internet become 'high quality'
The difference between VSR level 4 and off on is quite subtle as i expected (slight improvement, exactly the same as upscaling with madvr). Work best with animations.
Result is nothing like the black magic video 'Introducing RTX video super resolution" by nvidia. It is a nice little bonus feature to have but you aren't really missing out on much if you don't access to it.
High quality source no upscaling > Low quality source with upscaling
VSR is a good alternative to MadVR if you don't need Tonemapping.

Sorta weird it's so limited to the browser since the nvidea sheald does this to all content played back on it that came out years ago with great results. I had hopes a much more powerful desktop gpu would do better from start. Either way, This would be great for an old gmaeing pc turned media pc. Play back streaming service in 4k without needing to pay Netflix and others crazy subscription fees.
Now if somone made software that cleaned up audio and did a good job boosting voices in movies...
God forbid they make it an option in streaming services. Or realized not everyone is playing it back on theiter grade seround sound at high volume for a Netflix series..

Thanks for the explanation, had to check this out for on my 3070, it used about 30-40% of my gpu while on (~10% increase from normal) the usage varied on streamed quality. Strangely I didn't see a change in utilization between 1 and 4, quality seems to have changed though, so load must be the same but with different algorithm (just my theory, don't quote me pls). Overall good upgrade but going for native will always be better. 1440p monitor btw.

My browser needed a complete restart after changing quality settings to actually get it to update. The difference in power usage is very large on my 3080 using quality 1 vs 4, you cannot simply look at task manager for % usage, something like msi afterburner can show what clockspeeds you're running as well as power usage or hwinfo. Personally I wouldn't go above 1 or 2 quality level especially if planning to play games at the same time if I'm already GPU bound then having the video enhancement using up GPU resources on the side at the cost of framerates isn't great.

The problem with it right now is it uses too much gpu power, produces more heat, and if you have a laptop then the fans will get to be annoying with this enabled. I have an Asus G18 with a RTX 4080 and it's not worth it to use this feature. I have to try it out on my gaming desktop to see if it works out better as it has a whole lot more cooling.

Is there a way to record my gameplay at 1080p if I have the resolution set @ 1280x720 in nvidia image scaling settings? Everytime i record it records my footage at 1280x720 (which is being upscaled to 1080p) instead of the 1080p that my monitor is set at

I tried this option on my 4070Ti. It works, but the power consumption of GPU jumped up to 170W from normal 20. I do not need the increased video quality for that price.

So really this removes issues from bad scaling rather than upscaling. i.e it doesnt make 720p 4k. It makes 720p have less artifacts due to scaling issues.

Uncanny valley is only in your head. There is no frame generation so there is no space for AI fault. You cannot "break" image if only thing that you do is sharpening.

Hello, I need some help with this.
Do you have any idea when would it b available for 20 series cards? They said that 20 series will have this feature following the driver v530 update, but mine is at 351 and still don't see VSR in the NVIDIA control panel.

    • @Duonic
      @Duonic Год назад +1

@@JA_BRE nope. Not working with RTX 20 series cards. They will bring it sometime in the future, but as of now 29 series doesnt support VSR.
In every article it specifically mentioned that RTX 20 series will be suppirted after the driver version 530, but that's not the case.
