When I think of the natural progression of Jimmy Hendrix, I have always thought John Frusciante is the guy carrying the torch. Dismissing McCready was a huge mistake. He's without a doubt, the dark horse of this conversation. When it comes to the big 4, boiling down their sound to a singular, generalized influence, paints a picture of what makes them different. Nirvana came out punk, Alice and Chains came out of thrash/metal and Sound Garden came out of Hard Rock and Pearl Jam came out of Funk/ Psychedelic. The biggest contribution to Pearl Jam's sound is McCready. His technique and improvisational jam style would give any Hendrixsque gutarist a run for their money.
@@trentc7329 I was so hoping it was one of Mr. Dave's videos! He's a huge fan of both Frusciante and McCready; and one hell of a guitar player! Also, I think Jeff Ament is equally as responsible for Pearl Jam's sound. I beleive it was Ten? - I might be mistaken, but I think it was... anyway, Ament wrote most of the bass tracks for one of their albums and did a lot of experimental techniques and cool things and the rest of the band just filled in the rest. I can't remember where I read that, I might have the details all wrong, but I know Stone and Jeff do a lot of the compositional part of the songwriting. I think that's why Pearl Jam has been able to stay together and continue to be mostly successful over the years, they all contribute to the music pretty equally.
Never thought of Pearl Jam in the funk / psychedelic realm. They always seemed like a classic rock influenced band. McCready definitely nails the Hendrix sound but their songs always seemed to have a more country / folk infused sound to my ears. Wow, he’s playing to a backing track, at least I’m pretty sure he is. I don’t think you’d notice if you’re not a player, but you first I thought maybe a delay, but then his strum when he comes back in is right on time to his hand
@@yieldinhiding they obviously sustain for a while, but you don’t get an actual strum sound. Do you play or is it just you talking like you know something you have no idea about. It’s pretty easy to see an hear it, watch you tell me where his strum is before he slides down into the 5, an 7th fret. Because he definitely strums on the beat back in, but not before
One of my favorite PJ songs. It seems that they never got it right live though. All the distortion and riffing lessens the cleaness and the romantic feeling that studio version transmits.
I think it's a Custom Shop Fender, so no, but it still looks cool. The reason I say no is that there's no wear anywhere else on the guitar but the body, and the fret markers are a slightly yellow color, which is how Fender does an aged pearl look, and the fretboard looks really clean.
