This was an awesome podcast. I'm amazed at the strength of Karl and how he kept his positivity throughout. It's also awesome to see that he loves his family with everything he has. Good job with this one Karl, Ryan and Kevin!
What a nice guy. His positivity is infectious.
So awesome to see good Dads! Thanks
So inspiring. Such a motivating story. And such a humble dude. If everyone had this guys outlook and attitude the world would be a better place. And he rides with amazing energy. On burly setups. Awesome rider. Amazing human being. Im pretty sure we are going to see more amazing riding from this gentleman. Thanks for sharing your story...it's inspiring in so many ways. Cheers
Cornea-copia…I almost died!! I fractured my spine almost 30 years ago and I still can’t joke about it like that. What a great dude. I’m so impressed with how he deals with it. 🙏🙏
Karl seems like a great uplifting bad ass dude. Glad he is doing well after the horrendous injuries.
Really enjoyed listening to this man. He's a nerd like me!!!
Great interview and great wing man. KP seems to be a good guy. I love his style of riding and every time I see him off the bike I like him even more. Love our bmx and this guy Karl has a grip on life. What a feel good interview this turned out to be. I haven’t watched the injury video yet every time you say there’s a graphic warning I am the person who that aimed at and definitely appreciate it. It gets me lightheaded thinking about it. The way Karl talked about it I might have been able to watch it but I am good with just the description even that makes me a little wezee.
That membership paying off🎉
The goat sitting in for the goat kp 🐐
Now That's a positive outlook!
These interviews just get better and better.
Been waiting for this. Karl is the man. Been watching his RUclips lately.
Love listening to Kevin as a co host. Great listen. Thanks guys
Karl has a really good positive outlook in life. The way he sees what has happened to him in a whole new light and in a really interesting perspective. You dont see that everyday.
Interesting story with his dad as well.
It really is unmistakeable who he looks up to.
Amazing insight, really a good podcast.
11:23 Here’s a bit of history on the 720 frontflip (from memory). I believe Ryan Williams was the first person to do the rotation on his scooter, and if you watch older videos of him doing it, he’s basically upside down at 360, which is why he called it a 720 front flip. *Editing to say the Ryan corrected me and gave the dates he landed it to wood, original comments in parentheses, (I don’t know what came first between Ryan doing it on BMX and Nicholi doing it in crankworx), but in slope style they called it the twister, so some people know it by that name. I think Ryan had done the 1440 on the nitro ramp before anyone else, but of course it’s the resi argument, so like his front bike flip he doesn’t get credit for the trick (which is a whole other conversation that this isn’t lol). So this is a long and convoluted way to say that too many different people were doing the same trick in different places and around different people, so it just has different names.
This conversation would be good to have with Ryan, I’m sure he’s kept track more than anyone.
Ps. Rwilly has done a 1440 frontflip (1800) on scooter so I defer to him lol.
I was actually super proud of the 720 Frontflip because it was my 2nd new trick I brought to the BMX world from scootering. So it bums me out when people say it didn’t count when I did it.
The 1st time I did on BMX to resi was at the start of 2014 during the last stop of a Nitro Circus tour.
Then the first time to wood was June 2015 when I snuck on to the X Games Mega ramp and did it on my 3rd jump ever on the Mega.
Then on the 12th of November 2015 I did the first 1080 Frontflip or cork 1440(whatever you want to call it) at Nitro Circus for my Web Edit 3.
Nicholi did his first ever 720 Frontflip at the start of 2016 at Masters of Dirt and renamed the trick to Twister.
I’ll get this 1800 done soon on BMX for you all soon!🤝🏼
Probably the best podcast you have done 💯
"not a pro" - sounds like a technicality. i remember seeing his crash. good to see where he's at now. i hope he continues to get the hookups+ to "keep him rolling"
Easy knowing a lot of people when you live in Vegas, an underrated bmx hub for sure. We all knew of Peraza wayy before the Niyce drop, but can't believe he brought up Mark's old person
What a sharp tool
21 minutes in right now with a story about liability. When I was younger I was a skateboarder and the local creamery was right down the street from the high school and had all the spots. Painted grind ledges, manual pads, and bigger ledges to do tricks off of and you could hit them all in various lines.... dream spot. Some kid who we didn't really know went there to skate and broke his wrist and his parents sued. Not only did it permanently ruin a dream spot, it transcended throughout my town and more than a dozen regular spots started kicking us out for fear of liability. All it took was one kid's parents being shitty. Don't be shitty.
My guy!!! So awesome,
Such a good podcast
Been waiting for this one🔥
Karl is a f ing beast! Awesome episode
This is awesome
Karl is a great guy I know him personally and I can tell you this what you see here is truly who he is
enjoyed it and all the others have you gotten any of the 80s riders on any shows i can go and watch ?
I was in anaheim at the event bmx on that day he crashed
I skateboard & i ride bmx and snowboarding nobody saw my ride and sponsored me i never got a chance
Hey there
20:55 🤔🤔🤔
I feel like the new front flip spin tricks should be treated like snowboarding. Front cork 1080 and 1440… Eventually double corks etc.
8:55 Brett crashed in 2012 so that is probably 2011 or so. Definitely the best at cashys though 🙌
13:10 What about when I snuck on the X Games Mega Ramp in Austin or does that not count either?🙃
you're a deadset legend, you made your own space in bmx and have pushed the sport. Anyone who hasn't acknowledged you for the achievements you've made in bmx are blind
P.S I was the kid in the north queensland tour video a few years ago, you let me shout out my friends and be in your video and brandon showed me around backstage to get my jersey signed. I'll forever remember that night, I'm glad to see you killing it
Get Dan Lacey on 🔥
30:40 that’s fucked
Dilaudid is hydromorphone, like the way vicaden (hydrocodone) is stronger than normal codeine, hydromorphone is stronger than regular codeine. Pretty much heroin.
What’s the missing part about his parents both becoming bedridden in their 40s? That’s kind of a weird detailed to Skip over in the middle of the story.
