- LIVE: President Biden and Harris Announce New Executive Order to Curb Gun Violence
President Joe Biden and VP Kamala Harris on Thursday announced new set of executive actions to curb gun violence in the US. The new order establishes a new “emerging firearms threats task force” to check on machine-gun conversion devices and unserialized, 3D-printed guns. The order also explains federal agencies to develop guidance for schools on active shooter drills to reduce potential psychological harm to students.
Harris expressed her support for the new order and said that the right to be safe is a civil right. She added, “Our nation is experiencing an epidemic of gun violence. We know that the prevalence of this violence causes trauma that is far too often undiagnosed and untreated, which means that the effect of it is from that moment and lingers for a lifetime."
