Great video Stu. I followed your instructions and found that once the speedo bracket was removed the whole speedo unit pops out and is accessible from above. Much less faff. Keep on keeping on.
Just completed this upgrade, very pleased. I found it easier to lift the clocks up out of the cowl and fit the bulbs that way, there is enough wiring to do so. I also upgraded the speedo bulb with the same led, looks great. Ride safe all.
You still have to take the headlight apart though, then unbolt that bracket.. Ill give your way a go when I find a suitable LED bulb for my indicator light..
i have a 2018 Classic Stealth 500, ordered LED's from Uncle Stu's link (only wanted the T10's) last night, they arrived today at lunchtime today! Easy job to fit, So much brighter, Indicators work left and right and warning light flashes. Neutral and high beam work just fine, many thanks for your hard work sourcing these important low cost safety replacement parts.
Wow! It is nice not to be alone in this critique. My C5 was older and the bulb actually burned out and I replaced them with what I had at hand... a funky blue-toned bulb for a Subaru’s corner light. Though not as aesthetically pleasing as a plain white bulb, it was significantly brighter and added a personalizing quirk cementing the 500 as being uniquely mine. Thank you for another very useful video, Stuart!

What a useful video when one of the lamps on my Classic 500 has decided to stop working! I will replace it with a traditional bulb but switching for LEDs is a really good idea for an upgrade. Thank you!
First upgrade I made to my 350 classic, NZ gets the 350. Swapped the T10s out for AliExpress units, $3 per 10 delivered. The indicator bulb a bit more $$$ as it had to be a canbus nonpolarity unit.
I changed out the high beam, neutral light and turn signal indicator bulbs today and it is MUUUCH better in sunlight! Speedo bracket out, entire speedo pops out on top. Easier to get to bulbs. Thanks for the guidance and ride safely!

Hello Stuart here in canada all RE comes wit 5" 3/4 headlight with sealed beam 50/35W I m looking for upgrade to 7 " so which bulb u using for ur headlight ?
Excellent video Stuart and perfect timing as I want to change the bulbs in my 2020 Classic EFI. Thank you for the links for Amazon too, I shall order these tomorrow. Can I just ask, did you have the issue re the indicators as referred to by Leslie Wilson ie in that the flasher light only works one way? Or where your bulbs polarity independent? Whilst asking - there seems to be a lot of noise on you tube re AHO headlights and converting bullets back to BS3 switchgear to enable switching lights on independently - Do you have a view on this?
So all bulbs arrived - completed the change without any hassle - Exactly as Stuart predicted it would be. On my 2020 model when the speedo retaining clamp was released, I found that the speedo unit would pop up enough to allow me to change the bulbs outside of the nacelle - I've also gone ahead and changed the tiger lights to LED too. I purchase my LED from where Stuart suggested - for anyone contemplating this change - They worked first time! All I need now is a better main/dipped bulk! Brilliant Video Stuart !!

how much do you want for the old bulbs? if they are cheap enough i will be in touch when one of mine fails. regards from north yorkshire. (the less generous part of yorkshire)
I just watched a video concerning recent production shortages. I'm wondering if the correct bulbs were unobtainable so they used what they could get. Just my speculation. Ronn
N.B. I have the 2018 Classic 500. The push fit T5's do not fit. £8 wasted. It's not a lot but can't be bothered with the hassle on Amazon to send them back The originals are normal bulbs and not push fit. The T10's are great👍.
I’ve changed my headlight for a 7” Hella unit with an Osram LED H4 lamp, the light output is astonishing and it’s very well focused too. Not cheap for the Osram H4 lamp btw
Aren't you replacing your little side lights too ? One thing to mention is these led bulbs have polarity , so if it doesn't work when you put it in just turn it around ! ......Just to throw an unrelated topic in for you to cogitate on.....saw a 21 plate Interceptor at Willy Woods yesterday and got chatting to the guy ( as you do ) and noticed that his 21 plate 'ceptor 2wks old and completely stock was sporting a set of CEAT tyres 😯 wonder if this a one off , dodgy dealer or RE have downgraded the tyres as well as hiking the price ? Nice video 👍
@@stuartfillingham Ah that explains it ! No idea what those tyres are like but gut instinct would be take them off and replace them, I know it's adding to the cost of purchase but better that it rides on the tyres originally intended !
@@glenpillinger2234 The CEAT tyres on the Himalayan get favourable reviews too ! Never ridden either bike so I wasn't giving them a definitive thumbsdown but the Interceptor was designed around the tyres so the myth goes and I would ride the 650 differently to the 500 or the himmy so would be cautious . While I was talkingvto the owner a classic trials in the silver & lime came in ....looks a lovely bike 👍
Very timely, thank you Stuart. Its only been since the sun has come out that I have struggled to see the tell-tales. Now ordered from Amazon, but intriguingly at checkout among the "Sponsored products related to your purchase" was a USB endoscope with waterproof snake ....a bargain at £16.99. Which rather begs the question of whether a demonstration will be provided at a future date for the viewing pleasure of your audience. I hope I know the answer to that but a confirmation would set the mind at rest! Back on-topic, does your speedo consistently read 10% under? Mine does and I am curious as to whether its just mine or everyone else's too.
all speedos tend to read under, due to potential litigation after speeding conviction's. If they read 10% under and you get done for speeding you have no excuse and can not put the blame on the manufacturer!
Thank you so much Stuart it's always a great help, this is the same problem in India. These little lights are so dim, I usually step out for early morning rides or late night rides and can barely see the speedometer it has to be pitch black for the these basic essential lights on the meter to be visible. Will if I can get this done in India.
Ok Stuart, I've upgraded all the lighting on my 2011 H-D Iron 883 to LED's, they're a lot brighter than the stock incandescent bulbs, especially the headlight. The H-D "Daymaker" was very expensive at £400, I went for Chinese replicas of the stock H-D bullet type with seven LED's at £25 a pair, that's over £100 cheaper than the H-D LED units. I can't understand why H-D fit 3 in 1 LED indicator/tail/brake lights on the rear and incandescent bulb indicators on the front. My old 1977 Triumph TR7RV Tiger 750 used the T10 bulbs for the idiot lights mounted in the top of the headlight, I wasn't aware until now that they are still used on motorcycles.
Hi Stuart I seen speedometer seal wider side handle side Does it help more space under the speedometer Actually mine new headlight hitting the speedometer cable and mine speedometer seal wider side on the top side Any idea?
Hi Stuart, did you have to change anything for the turnsignal LED? Mine indicates only for one side and can't figure out why is that (ai know that LEDs work only in one direction) thanks for answering.
Those two wee lights above the headlight.. What are they for, and can they be made brighter? And would it be illegal to do so? I found my ABS light wasn't working.. I only just noticed it when I first watched your video a couple of weeks back.. I wonder if its possible to change the colour of the ABS warning light.. I have a small bottle of glass paint.. If I paint the bulb red would that make the warning light look more orange?
@@stuartfillingham I think you mentioned a problem you experienced with your ABS warning light not working.. What was it??? My ABS warning light hasn't been working since new.. I only noticed it after watching your video.. I assumed the warning light would be red like it is on my BMW F650GS and CanAm F3S Spyder.. I changed the bulb, I even found and tried a T5 LED bulb.. Neither work.. So its either the socket or somewhere else along the wire... Do you have any ideas what the problem might be?? I also found some suitable T10 LED lights.. Ill be switching out my neutral and indicator lamps later.. 👍
All the instrument bulbs (inside the headlight housing) in my 2021 RE Classic 500 are T10. Replacing a T10 LED in the turn indicator is problematic. It only flashes for one side. If I reverse the bulb in the socket, it will only indicate the other side! Not sure why that is happening.
You can upgrade the headlight to LED too which will reduce the load on the electrical system while increasing the light output. Don't use knock-off Chinese H4 lookalikes because they will fail quickly; you'll need to put your hand in your pocket and pay out for Phillips Ultinon (£54 for a pair of H4s when I bought mine) or the Osram equivalent. The fan on the back of the Ultinon only just misses the speedo cable and you'll probably find that you'll need to push some of the OEM wiring out of the way. You'll always know if the headlight is working properly when you turn the ignition on because the fan makes a faint but noticable high pitched noise.
Maybe in Aus. They fit brighter lights stock ... because if anything I wonder if they are too bright at night. Except it never seems to illuminate the odometer enough at night. I use the odometer to know my tank range.
Maybe they have always fitted dim instrument lights from way back and never thought to change? And perhaps in their main markets such things don't matter. Anyway it will be interesting to see if the LEDs are long term compatible with single cylinder vibrations.
What about... the headlight bulb?! 😅 I think it is the real Achille's heel of the Classic lightning, really a bit unsufficient when riding at night. Putting in a more powerful bulb could damage the unit (higher heat affecting and deforming what is not glass but plastic). Any hints?
I switched mine for a Ballack H4 Rain drive+ (the one with the yellow tip); i love riding at night but I live in a foggy area, and the new bulb has been, so far, a great improvement. It feels (relatively) hotter than the stock bulb, yes, but the headlight hasn't been affected at all. Also, it gives the headlight a yellowish tone, with a pleasant period feel.
I fitted a "Novsight" LED H4 replacement. It is massively brighter and i can barrel down unlit country roads with confidence. It's better than my BMW R1200RT headlights now!
Re: That little clip thing in the top of the speedo housing holding the top of the headlight shroud.. I unscrewed that top screw all the way out and that clip fell in to the headlight housing.. That alone took me quarter of an our to work out which way round it went.. But.. Apart from that, I've changed my neutral light for a brighter LED, now to find one for the indicator bulb.. The LEDs I bought are weird.. Turn on the left indicator and the LED flashes, turn on the right and it doesn't.. Take the bulb out and turn it round, plug it back in.. Turn on the left indicator, nothing.. Turn on the right and the LED flashes.. Grrr.. I have to get an LED with a single circuit, not this dual circuit thing I've bought.. Still.. I've fixed the neutral light.. That was annoying me the most.. The other "idiot" lights aren't as important.. The highbeam indicator bulb is fine as are the ABS and Engine warning lights.. The low fuel indicator bulb will have to go.. I'll dig that one out tomorrow... I was worried I was going to rip the wires out of the plugs.. They're a bit of a pain to get out... Anyhoo.. Thanks again for a very informative video.. BTW.. I don't think you have to unscrew all the screws around the headlight.. Only the top one.. Unscrew it a little then hinge down the headlight.. There's a clip holding it in place at the bottom.. When the headlight "lens" is out, unplug the headlight bulb, and pop out the park light.. Do what you have to do, then reverse procedure reassembling it.. Its easy once you've tackled it once.. 👍 ** Edit: I've "changed" the speedo display lights now.. I found an LED bulb suitable for the indicator (My gawd its so bright I can see it in the middle of the day), changed the Neutral light to LED too, I left the "Hi beam" light with a standard OEM globe as I reckon that one doesn't need to be so bright at night.. It'd be too distracting.. I changed the ABS globe for a red T5 LED and it looks really cool now (I have a red ABS warning light), the engine warning light - I painted it with orange glass paint, that looks weird now, like it has a sort of swirly pattern in the display - looks kind of like its on fire.. And for the "Low Fuel" lamp I painted that one light blue, so now it displays in a sort of turquoise colour.. I've left the speed display with the standard OEM bulb. I like the level of illumination of that bulb.. Its bright enough at night.. I think an LED would be too bright and distracting... So now all I'm waiting on are my muffler, single skin header pipe, and Halcyon bar end mirrors from Hitchcocks. I have a DNA air filter waiting patiently on my shelf for the exhaust to be fitted.. I'm not too sure about changing the plug for an iridium one, and I'll see if the bike runs differently before changing the front sprocket for the "go faster" one.. Oil: I'm going to be running it on semi-synthetic at my next oil change.. ** Unky Phil - Does the oil make a difference to engine noise like people say it does?? I understand semi or fully synthetic oil makes the engine run a little quieter..
Forgot to mention on the 2020 (and presumably the 2019 model) The GLL T5 bulb will not fit as RE have changed the fitting to a bayonet fit rather than the simple push in type bulb! (this only effects the petrol/ecu unit) where as the T10's are still the same as Stuart recommends.
not sure if you noticed but my Bullet is a 2020! Year is no indication of bulb fittings! Hence the warning on the screen about checking bulb type first.

I’ve just acquired a B5 and would like to do this 👍
I have an RE but unfortunately found watching 20 mins too much just to find out how to change a set of bulbs. I will just say I swapped to warm glow LEDs for my tiger lights above the headlamp - normal LEDs just looked too "modern" and didn't suit the bike at all..
@@stuartfillingham No thanks, I was just trying to help you make your videos a bit better. I guess there's little that can be done for your manners but good luck with that.

I just watched a video concerning recent production shortages. I'm wondering if the correct bulbs were unobtainable so they used what they could get. Just my speculation. Ronn
No. Both mine 2yr old, same prob. An earlier one I had did.nt have black coating on glass and were ok.
N.B. I have the 2018 Classic 500. The push fit T5's do not fit. £8 wasted. It's not a lot but can't be bothered with the hassle on Amazon to send them back The originals are normal bulbs and not push fit.
The T10's are great👍.
I did put enough warnings up on the video to check your fittings before purchasing!
Just ordered the bulbs. Cheers Stu. 👌
Did you consider LEDs for the two running lights each side of the headlight? If so, which bulb did you use?
Yes the Indian Government introduced new and heavy Tariffs on imported goods so RE has had to switch to a domestic tyre brand.
@@stuartfillingham Ah that explains it ! No idea what those tyres are like but gut instinct would be take them off and replace them, I know it's adding to the cost of purchase but better that it rides on the tyres originally intended !
@@themoog3889 I have the bullet trials replica with ceat tyres and they seem really good. 👍
@@BronwynCarlisle Phantoms only tend to track if the tyre pressures are below spec.
T5's are sometimes designated as W2x4,6d which may be easier to source depending on your location
Another great video! Thanks you for your wonderful content!
Hi Stuart I seen speedometer seal wider side handle side
Does it help more space under the speedometer
Actually mine new headlight hitting the speedometer cable and mine speedometer seal wider side on the top side
Any idea?
Hi Stuart, did you have to change anything for the turnsignal LED? Mine indicates only for one side and can't figure out why is that (ai know that LEDs work only in one direction) thanks for answering.
No not with the bulbs I used.
@@stuartfillingham sir - I can’t find the Amazon link to order these bulbs- please repost it. Thank you!
Speaking about lights... Can you show us one day how to adjust the headlight beam?
You can’t. It’s fixed into place inside the front most chrome ring using some “W” springs that press the lens into the ring.
Have you moved your handlebars forward or is it just the camera lens playing?
lens!
They were originally indicators back in the 1950s.
@@stuartfillingham
I replaced the tiger eyes with LED lights.. They're a lot brighter now..
Dear Mr Stuart , kindly do let me know where do you get the clock placed on your bike .
thanks - Sanjay
time 4 bikes.
Thanks so much 🙏
Got it !
Brilliant ... Came at just right time for me. Great instructions.
Thanks for the info uncle Stu
I often wonder why Enfield didn't just angle the speedo towards the rider slightly rather than just pointing it up at the sky! LEDs ordered......
How did you fix a clock below your speedometer. Does it come from the comapny or did you have it fixed yourself?
made a video a few months ago.
@@stuartfillingham could you share the link if possible
Just got this bike, LED bulbs now £16 for both packs, cheers
Continental gt 650 content plz!!! Also which one of the twins is your personal favorite and why?
LOL wait for the video
Excellent instructions.
Thank you.
Maybe in Aus. They fit brighter lights stock ... because if anything I wonder if they are too bright at night. Except it never seems to illuminate the odometer enough at night. I use the odometer to know my tank range.
I think they just screwed up and put low watt bulbs in and didn’t think it out well. Neat upgrade
Fantastic video thanks for sharing
Good information to know.
Maybe they have always fitted dim instrument lights from way back and never thought to change? And perhaps in their main markets such things don't matter. Anyway it will be interesting to see if the LEDs are long term compatible with single cylinder vibrations.
like I said they are solid state so far more robust than a standard bulb.
ok so this is 7months too late Stuart, but T5 bulbs are use on the instruments clusters on Japanese bikes the rubber holders are identical.
Do you know of any source for an LED bulb for the main headlight
I fitted a "Novsight" LED H4 replacement. It is massively brighter and i can barrel down unlit country roads with confidence. It's better than my BMW R1200RT headlights now!
Cheers mate
** Edit:
I've "changed" the speedo display lights now..
This is going to be interesting. most LEDs are too bright or don't work on these bikes.
Could someone put a link up please for these bulbs
17:40 shouldn't the petrol light go on too when you turn on the electronics?
Nope..
Only when the fuel is low...
Where is the link to the bulb packs please?
Stu, I can’t see a link to buy the correct led bulbs can you advise please, I’ve watched many times trying to work out the correct ones but not able to find on Amazon as there is so many different types and this is an upgrade that def needs to be done…..
I’ve just acquired a B5 and would like to do this 👍
Thanks for doing the donkey work Stuart, jobs a good 'un!
Anybody know where I can buy the holders from for a Royal Enfield bullet 500 2009 from
Wait a minute a B.ring M.y W.allett key fob on a Royal Enfield , oh it’s uncle Stu that’s alright then ha.
I have an RE but unfortunately found watching 20 mins too much just to find out how to change a set of bulbs. I will just say I swapped to warm glow LEDs for my tiger lights above the headlamp - normal LEDs just looked too "modern" and didn't suit the bike at all..
Sorry! would you like your money back? Oh hang on.....
