Way Overdue Upgrades to my Dyson Vacuum

  • I modded my Dyson V8 vacuum with a really cool adapter to accept Milwaukee M18 batteries and also upgrade the trigger. Not only can you swap out the battery as often and quickly as you like but the trigger upgrade also makes it so the vacuum stays on with just one press of the button instead of needing to hold the button to keep it on.
    The adapter for this upgrade was purchased from Crossfire Power, which provides a variety of adapters for different combinations of Dyson vacuums and various batteries, including Milwaukee, Dewalt, Makita, Rigid, Ryobi, Hitachi, Hilti, Bosch, and Ozito batteries for Dyson V6, V7, and V8 vacuums. Check out their offerings here: crossfirepower...
    The specific adapter I'm using is this one: crossfirepower...
    To keep the wall original mount usable, I 3D printed a new part for the wall mount so the vacuum can still be hung with the new adapter installed. I uploaded it here if you want to download it: www.printables...
    I also 3D printed some wall mounts to hold a couple batteries on the wall next to the vacuum. You can find those files here: www.printables...

    thanks I never realized to use an adapter with my Milwaukee fleet for my Dyson. The run time will be more useful!

    I had bought an adapter off Amazon for my Dyson before watching your video, now after your video I went and bought this adapter..lol. It’s pretty nice and the constant on feature is great as well. It is pricey but no one out there makes an adapter with the battery protection and continuous on switch. Since I don’t have a 3D printer to make the wall mount part, how much would you sell it one for?

    These power tool batteries are 5S, so 18 V nominal (no matter what the marketing says) while the original Dyson is a 6S at 21.6 V. Back-of-the-napkin math says the vacuum cleaner with the power tool battery will deliver over 100 W less...

      Seems to work just fine for me 🤷‍♂️

      Perfect. Less wear on the motor on Max speed, since the run time may be doubled or tripled.

    I cant find what i need for a kobalt one. Type a dyson battery. Wonder if you could get a kobalt to work in that one?

    Wow! Is there one for Rigid with circuit overdischarge protection?
    Also, can you charge it from the charging point on the Dyson by using the Dyson charger?

    • @james.a
      @james.a  7 месяцев назад

      Not sure about Rigid and no you cannot charge it using the Dyson charger.

      Ridgid and Ryobi have battery management built into their 18V batteries. Google's your friend.

    My M18 will not work on max!
    WTF?
    It shuts off like too much restriction!

      Hmm. It works with my M18 batteries but maybe because they are the “High Output” XC kind?

    Do they make this adapter for dyson gen5?

      Looks like they only have it for the v6, v7, and v8.

    Hi, I have a Dyson V8 aswell and I’ve tried two different adapters on Amazon and both would work on low suction but only a few seconds on max before shutting down. I’m wondering if I buy this adapter if it will work? Great idea, just want it to work on Max suction.

    • @james.a
      @james.a  5 месяцев назад +1

      Mine works on both Max and Low suction just fine. I’d avoid the Amazon adapters also because they don’t have low voltage protection and will ruin your battery if it runs it them too low. The one I got will auto cut off the battery at a safe low voltage.

      @TDAPP22 no problem. I just bought another adapter from them to use my Milwaukee M18 batteries with a Ryobi 5 gallon bucket vacuum and it also works great. Their adapters are a little pricey but you get what you pay for. They work great and keep the batteries safe.

      @@james.a Good to know. They responded to my message saying it had to be 4ah or above for Max suction. Is this the case for you? I have a few 3ah batteries already and was hoping they would work.

    pretty sure the M18 batteries are more expensive than a replacement dyson

    • @james.a
      @james.a  Год назад +5

      They might be, but these are batteries I already have on hand for my tools. If you already have any battery powered tools then why not share them with your vacuum too? Also the stock Dyson battery is not easily swappable. You need to remove screws to take it off. The vacuum only lasts about 12-15min on Max and then you'd have to wait hours to recharge it. With this adapter I just pull out the M18 battery and put in a fresh one and continue vacuuming. Being able to put it a larger amp hour battery is also useful sometimes when I know I'm going to be using it for a long time.

      Not sure about M18 but you can buy a pair of Ridgid 4Ah batteries in Canada for $118, so, under $60 each. They go on sale occasionally too. A single Dyson V8 battery in Canada is $143. I already have 4 Ridgid batteries, so it's a no-brainer. Hot swapable is an added bonus.
