You hit the nail on the head about the change in attitude - I actually look forward to shaving now. Before... it was spending unreasonable amounts of money on things I disliked and which never worked as they (in my opinion) should, to do something that felt like crap and left me twenty shades of red, my skin was irritated for days and I felt like I stuck my head in a blast furnace. Then the ingrown hair and God only knows what else... I think the most frustrating thing was, when I cut myself wet shaving (and yes, I am a beginner, so it happens), I KNOW that IF I do something different, do it right, I will not cut myself. With the cartridges it felt like a fortune cookie of misery, there was no rhyme or reason why sometimes I was a bleeding mess and sometimes I wasn't. With the traditional shaves, I know that I can do better and the results will be better. I love that part. I really don't mind making mistakes and seeing I have lots to learn, but only if I know I can get to a better place by doing so. The cartridge rasps, uhm. I mean "razors", never gave me that feeling. Pleasure as always, thank you for the awesome videos!

What a brilliant comment. I agree with what you say on all points. This way of shaving gets better with every shave. Sure, you'll get bad shaves but the thing is, like you said, you can change something in the shave to see if the next one improves. Kevy 👍

You got a Game Changer! It is good on you, mate. I have the first version, as well as the .84. The original has the Radio Knob handle, and the .84 is fitted with the Bulldog handle respectively. I also purchased the Super Knurl handle as well. I may put that one on my Yaqi Beast. The live was tremendous fun. I realized how much I genuinely miss them. I wish there was a weekly live rotated between You, Manny, Cap, and Jeffrey Smith. That, of course would be in a perfect world. I haven't lost sight of conflicting schedules, family quality time, etc. The interaction between the host, and viewers is the most appealing aspect to me. That RazoRock soap went BOOM. Copious amounts of lather! It went from pasty, to billowy as you applied water and proper agitation. Your lathering skills are down to a science. I enjoy the commonality in brush wielding by you, and Manny.
I used a Super-Max Blue Diamond for my .84's maiden voyage. It was supremely smooth! The shave was amazing, and irritation free as yours. Thanks for sharing this experience. I look forward to the next installment of this unrivaled channel.

@@kevyshaves4109 Here's my concern with it. I've watched alot of your shaves and in this one, your pickup pass was one of the most extensive you've had to do. It may give a smooth, close shave, but to me, a great razor is one where I can finish in 3 passes without a pickup pass. I have a pretty coarse and wiry growth and usually need extensive touch ups on the pickup pass on the jaw, jawline and middle of the neck (not to mention down by the collarbone, bridge of the nose and sides of the eyes above the cheekbones). This razor's blade gap is the equivalent of setting 4 on the Progress and that's going to ensure I need pickup passes. I even need pickups with the Fatip open combs. The only reason I can see buying it is to have a stainless steel razor, but if it's just a little more aggressive than an EJ89 and will still need extensive work after the 3rd pass, I can't see spending the $55 - unless you tell me it's much, much smoother than the Progress at setting 4.

    • @kevyshaves4109
      @kevyshaves4109  5 лет назад

It's much much smoother than the Progress on 4. However, if you need to do that many pickups, I would probably say it probably won't work that well for you. Maybe you can try one out from someone that has one? Sometimes the Progress feels harsh for me on the higher settings, dependent on the blade I use. Kevy 😀👍

Im glad you broke out the Razorock. I love that stuff. Great prices on Italian barber. I like the soap and the razors. I have about 7 of their soaps and a Lupo .72 and .95. I also have a Game changer.68 for my daily driver. I have several daily drivers though. I just like a mild and efficient everyday razor. The Game changer is my favorite of those. I also use Rockwell 6S and Rockwell T2 SS. I like all of those razors. You did a great job on this show.

Thank you Kevy for taking the time to develop such a luxurious lather. Very satisfying. I too have the Game Changer. I also have the Rockwell 6s. The 6s was my #1 for a few months and it certainly is a great razor. But after experiencing the GC it is now my new #1. I don't know why. I find it one step above in agression compared to 6s with #4 plate, imo. The nacet is a top blade in this razor imo. Other blades that work well for me: rapira platinum lux, Gillett green, personna reds, Gillett silver blue

@@kevyshaves4109 Thanks for your kind response Kevy. What I have noticed about the GC is the blade angle is practically identical to vintage razors such as the techs, tto's and modern Muhle r41. The angle on the 6s is identical to the EJ89 and Merkur types. This makes the GC more aggressive of course. I use alum after shaving with it and yep...there's noticeably more "burn"....maybe why I like it more is my face enjoys the extra exfoliation (I only shave twice a week to allow my skin to recover)? Thank you for your time and am looking forward to your next video. Cheers!

Although during the fall and winter I'd definitely love autumn Ash by Southern witchcrafts so I like to use that quite a bit more during the colder parts of the year for sure. Good evening Kevy! Nice razor you got there. I had to decide between the Gamechanger or CB Karve. I went with the Karve offering and I am well pleased with the shave I obtain. I like the shape and color of the Yaqi brush. I bought only one RazorRock soap, P160, and it burned my face to apply and I looked like a tomato for an hour afterwards. A shame really, the scent was excellent and the soap performed very well apart from the hellish fire on my face. Palmolive shave stick: Yep, anything that works and is cheap they get rid of for those cans of compressed goo...I need some of those Palmolive shave sticks! My shaves are going well. I did cut a gash in my chin with that Blackland Dart...ouch! I do like the Nacet blades, but I am very impressed with those Brazilian Gillette Platinum Plus blades. I am averaging 15 4-pass shaves per blade. Good value to me. Yes, Edwin Jagger replied to an inquiry I made in reference to product improvement (I asked if the could use a brass cap bolt and brass handle nut) and they said they were making an all metal DE razor...so it is true. What it is? Goodness only knows. The Gamechanger looks to do a good job...I see a shave off in the future. See you in August/September! Take care.

Hi Kevy- Great shave and razor review; thank you! I’m still trying to find a sweet spot with the Game Changer .84 razor. I usually wind-up with a bunch of weepers on my neck and chin, which is a bit unusual. I’m going to tone down the blade(s) I have been using and see what happens. Great looking lather with the soap! I have the .68 and the .84 base plates, and yes, they are really easy to find the angle with. I'm currently using .68 exclusively for this month, and it's still efficient enough to get through 3 days of growth no problem. I also have the Mamba .70. Now that one is a different story, not as easy to get the correct angle on that one. I'll have to work to dial that shave in.

Great shave and beautiful razor Kevy.
I got some Nacet recently and I'm very impressed with them. At the sharper end of the scale (not quite Feather sharp) but very comfortable blade.
I got some really nice pre shave oil the other day. The Executive Shaving Company Fuar Ach Snog pre shave oil its called. Very impressed with it. Definitely softened the whiskers and made the shave noticeably smoother than usual.
I wanted to do a fair comparison, so the razor, blade, soap are what I’ve been using for a while. And as such I could definitely tell the difference with using the pre shave oil.
At the end of my shave, my face felt like I had shaven with less passes (if that makes sense) than usual (and this was with the R41) and I had a closer shave on the curved part of my chin, which is always a difficult area for me to get a really close shave on. I will definitely be getting somemore, but it should last a while as its 150 ml in size, and Executive Shaving Company mention that if you use it every day, the 150 ml can will last 8 months (I only shave twice a week so it will last me well over a year).

Hi Steve. To be honest, both the Gamechangers are great. If you bought the .84 and you feel it's a little too efficient for you, try pairing it with a milder blade to tone down the efficiency a little. Shave- a-thon Blade gap is only one factor, you can’t only go by blade gaps. Cap/head design are equally a factor. On the Rockwell at R6 I could feel the edge, while with the Gsme Changer I can not feel the edge, much more comfortable and smoother. Same goes for my Rex (at 2.5-3) vs the Rockwell (at R5-R6). Efficiency’s more than just blade gap, gotta look at design too.

I was referring to the new razor that Edwin Jagger are releasing very soon. I've heard it's going to an all stainless steel razor. Kevy 😀👍

I like when you get a nick you just say, "Oh, a nick" and just keep shaving. I, on the other hand, get upset with myself for poor technique and think I had a bad shave.

I wish I could find that razor but apparently razorrock didn’t expect everyone to want one. So I guess I play the waiting game lol

You can sign up for emails when they're back in stock on the Italian Barber website. Maybe you've already done that. Cheers. Kevy 👍

Hi Kevy nice shave ... as always. Can really HEAR the feedback on that razor, like it has special acoustics! As for the brush, what a beaut.
About the pre-shave ... do you ( or anyone else) find that menthol makes ones eyes water? I bought the Edwin Jagger pre-shave cream and when I use it, which isn't so often now, I have to wait a while while I repeatedly wipe my eyes, then mask the menthol when I lather up. Also, did spot the instagram post - which you also liked. TBH does't look TOO different, but who knows? Keep up the good work, hope I'm as good as you after 4 years or so of DE shaving!

Thanks Peter. Yes, menthol makes my eyes stream too. I wish Edwin Jagger would stop teasing us and just release the razor! Lol! 😂 Cheers. Kevy 👍

Kevy, according to the chart at the bottom here, the Game Changer .84 is has 5 mm more exposure than setting R6 on the Rockwell 6S. Maximum blade gap on the Rockwell 6S is said to be .79 mm according to their site. getrockwell.com/blogs/journal/78023879-comparing-the-old-vs-new-rockwell-6s
How about a comparison to Merkur Progress setting? According to this chart, .84 mm is setting 4 on the Progress which is mildly aggressive. www.badgerandblade.com/forum/wiki/Double-Edged_Safety_Razors_Ranked_by_Blade_Gap
I'd like you to show an overhead shot of the blade alignment for some of your razors. That's the only way we can freeze frame and tell if the blade alignment and exposure is equal.

I think these blade gap measurements can be a bit deceptive depending on the shape of the head, how much curve the blade has etc. There's no way this Gamechanger feels much more aggressive than the 6S on the 6 plate. I'll try and do a comparison video soon. Got lots of things stacked up waiting to be included in vids. I'm on it 😀👍
