I was 22 in 1973. It was a great time to be alive. I warched the Watergate sessions during my lunch time while I was in college. Saw The Eagles in Detroit for the first time (I'm from Ontario). Actually went to 5 of their concerts. Love how this takes me back to the good old days.

I love listening to people talk about their times in the 70's! I was meant to have been born in the 70's, but alas, I was born at the end of the 80's.

I’m commenting before I even watch the video, because there’s nothing better on my Friday night than to chill out after a long work week with a “Jen” video while drinking cocktails!!! TGIF! I was 8 years old in 1973!

I was 16 in 1973. What fantastic music we had! We had all the great bands! And I saw Elvis in concert 3 times in the 70's! Your outfit looked great. I had round, rose colored glasses and always wore a peace sign necklace. I also wore a metal Vietnam War bracelet for an Air Force Captain, that was forced to eject over Vietnam on 2/23/68 and taken prisoner. I got to see him on TV when he returned home during Operation Homecoming in March, 1973! Though your video brought back so many memories, I have to say. I never ate any of the things you made...lol! We had things like Meatloaf, Ham and Beans, Salmon Patties, Fried Chicken and Pork Chops....I still miss my Mama's cooking! Thanks for the great video! I am looking forward to the next one from the 50's! ❤

That was fun. My mom gave this book to me for Christmas the year before I was married at 19 years old in 1975. Fast forward, still married and still have the cookbook. I have moved forward cooking wise, of course, and now use books like Half Baked Harvest, etc....but I still make three recipes from the book. Chicken Imperial (page 191) adding a few herbs to the mix, Double Duty Stuffed Shells (page 306) and the Old Fashioned Potato Salad (page 397). I agree with you about adding additional seasoning to most of the recipes because our tastes have evolved. Mom (92) lives with us and my children and grandchildren live close by....life is good :) Thanks for the throw back!

I was born in 1971. My mom had that cookbook which she gave me. It's not in the best condition but I love it. When my girls were little I would pick recipes to make for them.
I just have to say I remember when my parents watch the exorcist on TV. They told me I couldn't watch it, I think I was 7 or 8. Well I snuck out of bed and hid behind the couch and watched some of. I was so freaking scared!! But the funny thing is recently my girls who all grown and 3 of them live at home still, have literally been watching it. I sat down to watch and was cracking up at how funny it is now. They like to critique movies and this one, they have fun with.

I was born in 1964, where everything was made from scratch. I have some recipes from my grandparents on one of my cookbook shelves lol. I need to bust them out and give some a go. I know that when I was little, I received all sorts of household items for my hope chest. Have you heard of those? lol. I remember being gifted a Betty Crocker cookbook, which I can see on my book shelf right now. That book taught me a lot!

My nana and papa got us girls hopechests for our 16th birthdays it was a big deal to go pick it out. I wanted nothing but one of the ones my nana had. Best decision I ever made. It is still my prized possession and keeps me feeling close to her! Though it now pretty much holds my kids baby things and extra blankets.

Radishes were a pretty chic salad ingredient in the 1950s-1970s. I remember going to steak houses in the 1980s, ones that hadn't had a menu update since 1965 or so, and radishes were always in the salads. Gross in a Greek Salad for sure.

Thanks for making me feel old! I was 11 in 1973 so I'm old enough to be your mom. I just turned 60 this year. It was interesting to see the recipes and how much emphasis on entertaining there still was in the '70s. I think cookbooks from the '80s forward where more women were working outside the home that whole entertaining thing has someone gone out the window. And I'm good with that. I started working in 1979 and stayed with the company for 35 years so since I never married I never really got into entertaining but I did learn how to cook from my mom and also I had home economics in junior high and also cooking classes in girl scouts. Do schools even offer home economics classes anymore? I learned how to sew by following a pattern although whatever I sewed never turned out very well but I can sew on a button at least. I'm definitely a better cook and baker than I am a seamstress. I like to cook but it's harder for me to do that now since my stroke and having lost the use of my dominant arm. It is more challenging although I do have a stand mixer and a food processor which help since I can't really cut very well with a knife anymore and do it safely. Well this was a fun walk down memory lane. I couldn't tell what pants you were wearing but hopefully they were elephant bells! So for your fifties are we going to be seeing you in a poodle skirt and saddle shoes? Of course you will have to have your hair up in a ponytail tied with a cute little scarf and wearing a cardigan. Just watch the movie Grease if you need inspiration! Thanks Jen! ✌️☮️

I learned to cook late 60’s early 70’s. Food was very bland. Daily cooking was for “ease.” But the wife was expected to prepare a full course meal for her husband when he came home from work (served with fresh make-up, clean clothes, a clean house, and well behaved children.) I failed on all counts.

One thing to note about Greek salad; traditionally, lettuce and tomatoes are not ripe together. In the spring, it's radishes and lettuce, then adding cucumbers midsummer, then dropping the lettuce and the radishes and adding tomatoes in late summer. We are blessed with these crops year round.

I was born in the 70’s and I can remember my parents having to make me eat meals when I little because I wanted to be outside exploring and playing and they used that to manipulate me to eat. I would have to eat a certain amount of food before I was allowed to go back outside and play. 😂 I remember feeling it was torture to force eat to satisfy their wishes so I could get back to my adventures outside. Fast forward to current day- punishment for my son would be to go outside and play. He would much rather be inside. Things have really shifted!!!

i love this style of video. Super fun! I wasn’t born in 1973 but i think you had the vibe going on😀. My parents had orange cabinets when i was younger so your shirt was right on target lol. I too am a cookbook collector.

I loved this! How fun! I have a Pyrex bowl from the 1960’s that my grandma’s sister gave me. It is my favorite go to bowl for baking.

Hey Jen! I love it when you do these retro videos. I was born in 1961. I remember the fashion well. You did a great job. The early 70s still had a lot of the 1960s sprinkled in. I remember
sitting at the theater watching The Exorcist. I still think that's the scariest movie ever mde. That music haunted me for a long time, lol!
I'm an avid cookbook collector too! I guess great minds think alike. (Yeah right)...
