My ex roommate is clinical head honcho at a Crossroads facility. My son died when I was 10 yrs sober, people still ask why I didn't pick up. My answer still is "would it bring him back? If so, I'd sacrifice my sobriety if he could live again", but life isn't that way. So I'm now 32 yrs sober and still missing him, on his birthday, his AA birthday, and date of death.
