  • WALSINGHAM | Full tour of Walsingham Norfolk, known as England's Nazareth.
Walsingham in Norfolk is a village near Wells Next The Sea. It's steeped in history and religious significance, divided into Little and Great Walsingham. Little Walsingham is the heart of the village's fame, a picturesque medieval village that has been a renowned pilgrimage center since 1061.
Legend has it that a local woman, Lady Richeldis, had a vision of the Virgin Mary, which led to the construction of a shrine that became one for Europe's most important pilgrimage sites.
Today, visitors can explore the Anglican Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham, a place of worship that has resonated with pilgrims for centuries.
Another key landmark is the evocative ruins of the 12th-century Walsingham Priory, a monastery dissolved by King Henry VIII. Visitors can explore the priory grounds, which boast a particularly beautiful display of snowdrops in February.
While Little Walsingham is the center of pilgrimage, Great Walsingham offers a different kind of appeal. History buffs will be drawn to the Shirehall Museum, a Georgian courtroom that sheds light on Walsingham's intriguing past.
The museum is located right next to the Priory Gardens, where visitors can stroll through delightful flower displays and admire the impressive twin-turreted 13th-century arch, the last remaining fragment of the medieval priory. If you're curious about Walsingham's role in justice and punishment, you can also visit the Walsingham Bridewell, a 16th-century house of correction.
Beyond historical exploration, Walsingham offers a charming escape. Take a ride on the Wells & Walsingham Light Railway, a heritage railway that winds through beautiful countryside on a relaxing and scenic journey between Walsingham and the nearby coastal town of Wells-next-the-Sea. This leisurely route is a perfect way to experience the tranquil beauty of the Norfolk landscape.
For those seeking a deeper connection to nature, Walsingham is well-situated for exploring the surrounding area. The village is close to the renowned Norfolk Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, where visitors can explore miles of pristine coastline, designated for its conservation importance.
A short drive away is the equally picturesque Norfolk Broads National Park, a network of navigable rivers and broads perfect for exploring by boat. Here you can discover diverse wildlife, from otters and bitterns to a variety of wetland birds, amidst the stunning natural beauty of the Broads. Whether you're a history buff, a religious pilgrim, or simply a nature enthusiast, Walsingham offers a unique and unforgettable experience.

Walsingham is yet another beautiful village town in Norfolk to explore
even on a rainy day and of course i like how beautiful the buildings and houses look, they have some nice shops and cafes, this is a great place
that still has a lot of the Medieval touches to it, i really enjoy seeing this
this area of England especially for the old churches and the cemeteries,
i found out that my ancestors came from the Hampshire area of Lymington across from the Isle of Wight but also lived in London as well and this was another great walking tour and until next time Thank You.🇬🇧👍🇬🇧

You haven't had the proper pilgrimage experience till you have done the walk from the slipper chapel to the shrine church bare footed... done it a few times when there on pilgrimage.
