  • Rainn Wilson from The Office gives a great talk to a packed audience at the National Baha'i Center in Iceland in 2017, about the topic "Baha'u'llah, His Life and Teachings". Baha'u'llah is the Prophet-Founder of the Baha'i Faith.

This is insane. When I went through puberty I came to the same conclusions about religions and I thought that I was alone in my theorys. I used to try to tell people close to me that all the religions had a piece of the puzzle. That everyone's god was the same entity. I can't believe it's taken me 15 years to discover the baha'i faith.
I lost touch with god a bit but over the past few days I've had this underlying yearning to reconnect with him and knowing that I had to... My depression sunk deeper and I prayed within myself until I somehow randomly came across a rough explanation of this faith. This is life changing for me.

Rebecca Bagley At 17:30, he omits that the Babis led a violent, messianic insurrection against the government.
At 17:40, he says "They killed tens of thousands of Babis in Persia in the early 1800's in the most horrifying ways." In fact, Denis MacEoin concludes that the "number of early Babi/Bahá'í martyrs was not 20,000, as 'Abdu'l-Bahá and Shoghi Effendi mentioned numerous times, but 2,000 to 3,000 (e.g. MacEoin, "A Note on the Numbers of Babi and Bahá'í Martyrs in Iran," in Bahá'í Studies Bulletin, 2.2, Sept. 1983, and "From Babism to Bahá'ísm: Problems of Militancy, Conflation, and Quietism in the Construction of a Religion," in Religion, 13, July 1983)."
At 18:00, he omits that Bahaullah, as one of the leaders of the Babi movement, was imprisoned after some Babis unsuccessfully attempted to assassinate the Shah of Iran.
At 20:15, Bahaullah was exiled and not executed due to heavy pressure from the Russian consul, who had some political authority over the Iranian state at the time. In fact, Bahaullah was escorted with an entourage of Russian horseman to his exile in Baghdad, which was part of the Ottoman Empire at the time. Bahaullah left Baghdad without telling his family to study with Sufi sheikhs in Kurdistan.
At 22:00, the Bab said the next manifestation would come in 1000 years, not a short time.
At 22:20, Bahaullah's followers were engaged in internecine fighting with the followers of Subh-i-Azal, which is why the Ottoman authorities moved him to Acre, Palestine.
At 26:18, he correctly quotes Bahaullah as saying, "That diversity in religion should cease."
At 47:30, he says "There are two choices about Bahaullah." No, in fact, there are many more conclusions that one can more objectively reach than those two.

Getting your information about the Bahai faith from someone who is not a Bahai is like learning about Christianity from the viewpoint of a Satanist.
Yes Bahà'u'llàh got imprisoned in the Siyah Chal for crimes committed by some misguided believers after Bahà'u'llàh met and expressly told them not to. This is common knowledge among Bahai's
Bahà'u'llàh is the Manifestation of God for today. I will believe the word of Him, His son Abdul Baha ; and His great grandson Shogi Effendi any day over a source that is obviously not Bahai.
The Bab expressly refers to the imminent coming of He Whom God Shall Make Manifest numerous times. You clearly have been misinformed to an extent comparable to the ignorance of the flat earthers.
There are 3 ways or more of viewing the Bahai faith.
      1 not believing.
2 seeing it as a religion
3 taking it on as a lifestyle
And finally Rebecca Bagely (and I cannot speak for her) found this video in a way that she believes God influenced her to find it nothing you can say can compete with that experience.

      Rebecca Bagely
      Welcome to the Bahai faith.
I am in awe that you found the Bahai faith on your own.
I think that you are the kind of person who would in men enrich any kind of Bahai activity.
I know nothing (about you) and would like to get to know you better.
I am an Australian Bahai and I host a morning devotional (prayer meeting) via phone each day at around 7.15 Eastern standard time.
Do you have whatsapp? Can I add you as a friend on FB?
Do you have any questions about the Bahai faith or need any kind of support at all? I am here for you.

Rebecca: Investigate the Bahais for yourself and make up your own mind, Jesus said: you will know them by their fruit, many people will say bad things about any religion you investigate but you have to make up your own mind what makes sense and how the people behave around you in that religion. I just started studying with them about 2 months ago through interfaith, if you want any support , let me know but otherwise there is tons of info on youtube, try not to read the negative nancys but I found Bahai.org to be helpful.

I'm sure you got your info wrong but didn't all religions have bloodshed of some sort, doesn't mean the founder approved of it. One of the disciples of Jesus cut off a romans ear and Jesus rebuked him.....same thing happened in most religions.

In August 2017 I had a heart attack with a NDE. My religious beliefs melted away. I had an understanding that I was now on a big kid scavenger hunt, to find each piece of truth that each religion, each person, each Philosophy holds, to find the ultimate truth. Every search brings me to something tied to Bahá’í. Feels good knowing I’m not alone in understanding not to reject other teachers, but not to solely focus and fixate as well. Thank you for this.

This is my second attempt to post a reply! I am almost 68 & not very adept at using computers ( I truly believe that I’m jinxed when it comes to anything to do with new technology! I seem to be more in tune with the way my husband & I lived in the North Ontario woods in a log cabin with no hydro or indoor plumbing!); so, please forgive my awkwardness at this! I have no idea where my previous attempt at this message went. Just wanted to say that I had a similar experience in 1967 at age 16 when I was in hospital extremely ill with something the doctors could not get a handle on. My soul left my body. This experience was clearly different from the “fever dreams” & delirium I had been having. I awoke around 10:00 pm & felt very clear-headed but noticed immediately that I was hovering near the ceiling over my body. There’s a bit more to the story but I never told anyone about it, thinking it must’ve been a dream even though it felt so clear & real. I found out later the next day that I hadn’t been expected to survive the night. Two years later while living in Toronto I met someone who was describing NDE’s & out -of-body experiences. In 1967 when this happened to me, I had never heard of the topic or read anything about it. The media at the time ( Life Magazine cover) was questioning whether or not “ God was dead”. I did not come from an overtly religious family even though I had attended Sunday school & sometimes, church at a United Church.
I can attest that this experience inspired me to believe in God & a spiritual life beyond this one.
And so began my “ off & on” investigations into various religions/faiths & Spirituality in general where I assimilated bits & pieces into “my own religion” or path. I was eventually looking for an actual religion that incorporated most of my beliefs/ truths of how to live in this world.
Flash forward to 1971 when on summer break from college, I was staying with my grandparents in Penticton, BC. My wonderful British grandmother who had always been an open-minded “seeker” was reading the newspaper one morning where she read that there was going to be a presentation about the Baha’i Faith at some such hall & would I go with her to see what this unknown religion was all about.
Needless to say, I met with some Baha’is afterwards & began reading some books I was given. So many things “rang a bell” inside me & I enthusiastically declared as a Baha’i that summer.
But life went on & I wasn’t in touch with any other Baha’is after I went back to school.
Eventually I moved back to Ontario, met my ex-husband & moved to North Ontario. My husband who had been raised in a very religious family completely disdained all religion & faith in God. Even though I continued my reading of religions, faiths, myths & legends, I felt I should keep my thoughts to myself in these matters.
Also, there were no Baha’is in the area at the time to further my interest & education.
      No computers, remember!
Several years rolled by with tragedies, joys & the busy-ness of life.
We moved back to Southern Ontario & our marriage dissolved. I was unhappy to be away from the North & living in a city.
I have a serious chronic illness that I have nearly died from & have endured for the past 30 years or more. I became unhappy, bitter & blamed God for letting me suffer.
One day when I was feeling particularly down & depressed I saw an advert in the paper about a local Baha’i presentation on “ Unity through Diversity” at the art centre with various entertainments.
There was a phone number at the end of the article & something prompted me to call it & leave a message asking for more info. I explained that I was still registered as Baha’i but had been out of touch with the Faith for many years.
A woman who has become a dear friend called me & we arranged to meet at this event.
The rest “ is history” but instead of naively jumping onto the Faith & diving in, I began to read more about it to try to understand more before deciding if this really was “ a good fit “ for me.
Even though I am still remiss at studying & some practices as I grapple with my debilitating illness & the recent death of my only son, my firstborn, I can honestly say that this Faith “ fits almost all the i’s & crosses all of the t’s” for me.
I believe in the basic tenets as they match what I concluded in my years of being a “Seeker”. But, for me, the biggest attraction has always been the prayers. They opened my heart...I could truly “ feel” these prayers with an almost glowing warmth in my heart!
And so, I returned to the Faith & highly encourage anyone who has a curiosity for such things to investigate this Faith.
I suggest that you read some of the prayers as they are truly moving & poetic.
So ends my long “ share” of how I have found this Faith twice in my life... no regrets!

I was an atheist when I was going through mental episodes and it caused me so much pain and suffering. The more I study science and interconnect certain constructs, the more I realize the likelihood of God. The following is a list of evidence iv’e compiled over time, God bless you all.
Scientific Evidence: simulation theory (likely the best theistic argument but hardly ever presented that way), the predisposition of humans to find god/afterlife (seen in countless ancient and contemporary societies), the 12 dimensions proven by a myriad of theoretical physicists being manifested in means apparently accessible by humans (psychedelics, REM sleep, lack of oxygen, etc) showing entities described by religion, the ubiquity of highly serendipitous natural occurrences on earth, the first law of thermodynamics which states that energy can neither be created or destroyed (the brain uses about 20 watts of energy to exist actively meaning that when you die it is unfeasible for that energy to dissipate, and it can exist outside of a husk or body [why radiation can exist haphazardly in the air]), near death experiences, etc.

Enjoyed Rainn Wilson’s talk and was impressed by his willingness to present a brief view of some of the teachings of the Baha’i Faith - there is a huge compendium of writings by Baha’u’llah, The Bab, and other important figures of the Faith that it is difficult to arrive at the “right size” for a talk like this. I hope he decides to take on other subjects about the Baha’is in future talks. Just a brief mention on the number of divisions in Christianity mentioned at the start: “The Center for the Study of Global Christianity at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary estimated 34,000 denominations in 2000, rising to an estimated 43,000 in 2012. These numbers have exploded from 1,600 in the year 1900.”

Although Rainn's presentation is far from perfect (same could be said of any Baha'is attempt to portray the transcendent figure of Baha'u'llah) your post is riddled with inaccuracies. I'm only going to address the first one, as it's the most unjust:
The Babis did not lead a messianic insurrection against the government. I'm not sure if you're referencing the attempts of the Babi leaders such as Quddus and Mulla Husayn to defend themselves from wholesale slaughter at the hands of the tyrannical government, or if you're referencing the ragtag group of Babi dissidents who broke ranks with the vast majority of their fellow believers to initiate (at the behest of Azal I might mention) the attempt on the life of the Shah. Either way, you're mistaken, and neither the justified, heroic defense of the beloved Babu'l-Bab and Quddus, nor the heretical attempts of Azal's following could be conceived of as a violent, messianic insurrection.

For now I will mention that when I have read from the Bab He asks people to prepare for the coming of He Whom God Will Make Manifest and gives them practical instructions and guidance and warnings to prepare them to recognize Him and how to behave in His presence. Through a liaison the Bab had His writing sent to Baha'u'llah and had a special written piece and I believe his writing implements sent to Him. I do not know of a reference to what was said above. The Holy Law (Sharí`ah) of the Messenger of God [Muhammad]may be likened to an ocean from which innumerable gulfs branch out. And this is the cause of the weakness of the Sharí`ah of God among the peoples. Until now *no-one* , not kings nor subjects nor the indigent have understood the reason for this, nor have they appreciated how to regain that power that has vanished and the learning that has fallen away. Thus one gulf is Shí`a, one gulf is Sunni, one Shaykhi, another Shah Ni`matulláhí, one Naqshbandi, another Malámatí, one Jalálí, another Rifá`í, and yet another Khárábátí. Thus are multiplied the innumerable *pathways* to *hell* . Thus do the stones weep and the Pen of the All-High laments. Seest thou what has befallen a Sharí`ah whose light illumined the world and whose fire, that is to say the fire of its love, was the guide of its peoples. Well is it with those who ponder upon these matters and investigate then and are fair in their judgement. Thus did this difference in public rituals become the cause of the shaking of the foundations of the Cause of God (Bahá'u'lláh unpublished)

  • @randychurchill201

All Eastern religions have a Platonic notion of God. The Bahai faith is no different. Bahai comes from the middle east. All versions of Islam are also Platonic. Platonism operates on the doctrine of absolute divine simplicity. Absolute simplicity says that to make a distinction in God implies division or composition. To make a distinction in God means that God has parts and thus is divided and not simple. If you have ever listened to Islamic scholars argue against Christian apologists you will hear this argument against Christianity. The Islamic doctrine of God says that God is one. God is whole. God is simple and is undivided. The doctrine of the Trinity in Christianity makes a distinction between the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Therefore Christianity violates the doctrine of absolute divine simplicity. Islam argues that to say that there is a distinction between three persons in God implies that God is divided and thus has parts. God cannot be one and whole if He has parts. This is why Islam rejects the doctrine of the Trinity. Islam is built on the Platonic doctrine of absolute simplicity.
Platonism is the foundation of all the religions in the world except for one religion. Eastern Orthodoxy. Orthodoxy was the only form of Christianity for the first thousand years of the Christian Church. The church fathers had to deal with the Greek religions that were founded on Platonism. The historical testimony of the Christian Church shows that Platonism was viewed as heresy. Because it is not true that to make a distinction in God means that He is not simple. The doctrine of absolute divine simplicity is pagan heresy. There are many arguments that show this. For example, every human being is composed of nature and person. We are human beings. We have bodies with flesh, but we also have our personhood or hypostasis. I can make a distinction between my body, or flesh and the immaterial nature of my own cognition and personhood without being cut up into parts. We all have a spiritual awareness that we do exist as a being. To make a distinction between my nature and my personality does not mean that the union between those two things is not expressed also in unity and wholeness. There is both a distinction and a complete union or oneness that affirms my identity. This is what it means to be human. In the same way to say that God is both one and three does not mean that He is not simple or whole. One is not better than three and three is not better than one. There is unity to one and there is a unity in three. There is no tension between the one and the many.
The nature of God is not the same as the three persons in the Trinity. Thus nature is not the same as a person. But nature always operates in the mode of persons. Thus there is a distinction between the three persons in God, and there is also a distinction between Nature and the three Persons in the Trinity. But none of these distinctions mean that God is not simple, whole, or one. Since the Bahai faith is Platonic it operates on the basis of Absolute divine simplicity. It cannot talk about God this way.
All false religions operate on the general notion of absolute simplicity. This is why all Eastern religions try to get rid of distinctions and try to say that everything must be assumed into one unity. We have to get rid of any distinction around racial identity. We must rid ourselves of any notion that there is a hierarchy in the world. We must rid ourselves of the notion that there are false religions. They all express the divine absolute. Hinduism, Buddism, and Bahai all end up having a problem with the particular or individual and they try to have everything brought into the absolute simplicity of the one monad. This is why Buddism teaches that we must get rid of any notion of the individual self. The only thing that matters is finding the unity of the one. In the end, there is nothing very unique about the Bahai Faith. It's just rehashed Platonism. The doctrine of absolute divine simplicity is the source of all dialectic tension in the world. Because it sets up a natural tension between the one and the many. That's why the world is so messed up. Platonism is everywhere if you know how to spot it. Why do you think that so many people support a one-world government? Without a proper doctrine of God, you cannot think correctly about anything. The more you try to make the world a better place based on the philosophy of Platonism the worse the world will get. It will not end in Utopia.

    • @randychurchill201
      @randychurchill201 4 года назад +1

@@GrottoGroveGroves yes you are right. Since the Baha'i faith is based on Monism. it automatically has an impersonal notion of God. Monism says there is no distinction between God's Nature and God's person. Monism ends up teaching emanationism. Everything in this world is an emanation from the Monad with no distinctions. The pure forms and ideas are in the Monad. The imperfect forms and ideas are in this world because things in this world are distinct and particular. The Baha'i faith has a problem with particular distinctions. That's why they talk about focusing back to the one point. That point is the Monad with no distinctions. Because distinctions cause division. That's why most Eastern religions teach that we have to get rid of any notion of the self. Because to believe in yourself as a particular individual allows you to make a distinction between yourself and other people and particular beliefs. So in the Baha'i faith you have to get rid of any notion of particulars and be assumed into the one. The perfect whole. Plato taught the same thing. He said that the Monad is perfect Oneness with no distinctions. The further you move away from the Monad into our lower reality the more imperfect the forms and ideas become. That is why Greek Philosophy taught that Nature is evil. That is why the Greeks hated the body. True freedom was to leave your body and return to the spiritual harmony of oneness where there are no distinctions. All forms of Monism lead to irrationality. Because nobody can live in this world without making distinctions everyday. Just look at how Paul the Apostle preached to the Greeks at Mars Hill in Acts chapter 17. He told the Greeks that God's Nature was not to be compared to any created thing in the world. Why is this so important? Because the Greeks thought that God was just another thing in the world. This also means that the forms in this world are not based on perfect forms that are in God. The created order is from God's ability to create from nothing (Ex Nihlo) Since God created particular things by his creative power distinctions are necessary to make sense of the world. God created all things and He said they are good. Therefore nature is not evil. Paul goes on to say to the Greeks that "God is near you, even in your hearts" Why did Paul say this? Because the Greeks thought that the Monad was impersonal and far away. Paul was telling them that God was imminent and the source of all reality and being. Then Paul preaches the ressurection of the body from the dead. Because Christ rose from the dead. Why did Paul preach this? Because the Greeks hated the body. To hate the body is satanic. The restoration of the body by Christ through His resurrection shows us that Nature is good and it is restored in Christ. Jesus in His incarnation assumes human nature and by His divine power deifies His flesh defeating the curse of death from Adams sin.
Monism is a false pagan conception of God. Plato taught that to make a distinction in God implies separation division or that God is made up of parts. Ancient Christianity says that Plato was wrong. We have to make a distinction between God's Nature and the three Persons of God. We don't know God in His essence or Nature. We know God because He reveals Himself to us as a Person. We know God through the Person of Christ because He is the Image of the invisible God. Jesus was a divine Person who became just like us. He became human flesh. That is why we know God loves us. God is both one and three. God is One essence but three particular Persons. Therefore there is no conflict between One Nature and three particular distinct Persons. The Christian doctrine of God solves the problem of Oneness and multiplicity. There is no dialectic conflict between the One and the many. Hope this is helpful.

The fundamental principle enunciated by Bahá’u’lláh, the followers of His Faith firmly believe, is that Religious truth is not absolute but relative, that Divine Revelation is a continuous and progressive process, that all the great religions of the world are divine in origin, that their basic principles are in complete harmony, that their aims and purposes are one and the same, that their teachings are but facets of one truth, that their functions are complementary, that they differ only in the non-essential aspects of their doctrines and that their missions represent successive stages in the spiritual evolution of human society. He hired almost 60 of worlds top scholars & translators in 1604 only using one rule. Its obvious you failed to do your research on this, so I'll correct you here. Everyone knows the Catholics used the corrupted Latin vulgate. The protestants used good versions leading up to KJV. The tyndale/ bishops/ Geneva bible. The KJV committee spent 7 years using only the original Hebrew masoretic old Testament & koine Greek new testament. They were not allowed to make doctrine changes. Thats contrary to God's command in revelations 22:18&19. So you're clearly making a false accusation which is sin. You need to REPENT( another command by God). For years, the holy bible was only available in Latin. So , since the Roman Catholic CHURCH corrupted the bible first, show me clear proof of the KJV committee changing the bible as you claim. There should MANY errors as you claim. 🤔. I know you are not fluent in Paleo Hebrew or koine Greek so I'm waiting for you show me your evidence. Don't worry, you'll have plenty of time to use Google or you tube videos to get your answer. Lol. I know face to face, you could never show me in context 10 errors that you actually studied about the KJV. Sit your ignorant ass down before I embarrass you further. #RealTalk God preserved his word in the original languages. The KJV committee translated it into English without changing words, then you're calling God's word corrupted. You have no faith in the text. All modem versions the ESV/ RSV/ NIV/ NASB/ NLT/ NKJV are ALL garbage versions that have decreased the diety of Jesus/ changed salvation/ deny the Trinity which are ALL fundamental doctrines.

I LAUGH at the hypocrisy in Baha-luah TEACHINGS. If he really loved God, he would have preached the gospel of Jesus death/ burial & resurrection as commanded 👉 Mark 16:15
[15]And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. 👉👉
Evolution is false. God taught creation. You fools focus on science & not the gospel. God taught to avoid this. 👉
      1 Timothy 6:20
[20]O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called:👉👉
      1 Timothy 2:5
      [5]For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

It is a bible fact that Jesus Christ talked about hell & judgment more than anything else. There are MANY verses on that. Yet I don't see Bahá u llah ever teach about it. Nobody who claims to follow God can pick & choose WHAT parts of the bible to teach.
    2 Timothy 3:16
[16]All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
