- As you know, there isn't much room to work on the passenger side of the motor. There's too much stuff in the way to get your spark plugs out easily. I am kicking myself for not thinking of it sooner. I felt really dumb once I realized how easy it is to get the last spark plug (cylinder number 6) out of the motor, after I spent as much time as I did on it. I worked on it for over an hour. Once I realized what I needed to do, I had it replaced in less than 10 minutes.

Try schools they fix for free just pay for parts
Starts changing plugs in morning. Pitch black night when he finishes.
Don't you? Lol
not like its a honda
😂
Yep did mine today and flush...12hours lol
Finishes the job. It's a success!...
Wakes up the next morning, and it was just a dream.
Oh yea, I was worried about that, thanks so much, got an 02 firebird, running a little rough, wasn’t know way I was going to give up, cause I wanted it so bad, going to put plugs in it first, then go from there, this is a life saver.
Richard, how was it? I have a 99 with this same engine, and have left the spark plugs alone for this reason, but now there's hope
I just changed plugs on my kids car yesterday 1998 Camaro 3.8 and guess what?! Great minds think alike! I did the same thing too! Except I used a gear wrench on mine. Worked like a charm.
Bruh 2023 and still useful my camaro has been running rough lately i have everything to change them out i just couldn’t figure this out thanks man appreciate it
Great tip, got a 99 Firebird, I can't get under car because of my back, the cheapest place I've found to change and put new wires on want $200, gonna have to get changed, it's got a miss on cyl. #3, the plugs every one has recommended are $9.95 each
Thanks for that tip dude.
Thanks for watching. Glad it helped.
good video I've always used that combo on my 3rd and 4th Gen fbodies with headers. i also cut the spark plug socket in half to get in tight places and use a wrench, just like your video. i don't understand why everyone has such a problem replacing the plugs on these cars.
It was a "Duh" moment for me. Just wasn't thinking outside the (tool)box!
I was fed some line by my old auto shop about having to drop the engine out to get at it. This tip is gold. Thanks!
Scott Morey Unbelievable!
Great tip. I wish I had known this many years ago when I bought my 96 (=
I wondered about doing the plugs on my 98 firebird also but not any more! Thanks!
It's such a bitch isn't it
Glad you figured that out so I don't have to. Dang that had to be frustrating.
I have 3 homemade tool for this job lol those plugs are a pain on those cars good video
Thank you i’m doing that to my black 1998 Chevy Camaro I remember having a hard time with this quite a few years back and I’m pulling the car out of the garage because it’s been sitting there for three years but it’s in pretty much mint condition just needs a tuneup
Thanks for this video! Saved me much cursing 👍
Nice!!! Doing mine this weekend and this will help so much!!
God bless you too thanks buddy
Super useful. Thank you for the video
Thank you for the tip! Just put my 1997 on the road and it’ll need a tune up soon.
Thanks
-another 4th gen guy
I just got this 99 Firebird, how do you tell if it's a 4th gen.?? Thanks in advance!
O
@@rodneytaylor2144 well it's a 99' so....
@@coldmicrowave345 thanks smartass
this is the easy one, the one in the middle is a pain in the ass
Yup. Not much room to work on these cars.
I'm literally pulling my hair out trying to get the spark plug boot off 😡
The 7 is a bitch
JillyBean860 tell me about it bro , I can’t get the dam thing off bro , what did you do to get them off ?
@@scott123415 I thought the 9th one was a pain myself personally
Alright I got to try this out. I been getting pissed at mine lately.
You can also cut the socket down a bit
absolutely brilliant!!!!
Thanks. It was a "duh" moment for sure, because it was right in front of my face the whole time.
Brooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo thanks 🙏
Can you make a video on how to get them all out I’ve only been able to get one so far
David12164 ruclips.net/video/J96P_FQMGro/видео.html
What kind of sorcery is this?? **lol** Watching in March 2020 from Texas.
Gracias hermano
I have a 2000 camaro and order some wires and plugs the wires I received look the same on both ends instead of having a boot on one end can I still use them or should I get the ones with the boot on one end
Very good
thank you for sharing, I didn't even think of doing this...
Its almost like they made tje socket that way for that very reason! LOL 😆
steve rohaley go figure!
Man that middle spark plugs the hard one I even pulled the water pump hose
I’m trying to get the plugs on my 94 I don’t even have room to get my hand in there for the back one and I have no way of seeing or touching the other 3 on the passenger side any tips?
If I put my spark plug socket on the plug. It won’t stick out far enough to get on it. Can I get a longer socket?
any tips for the rest of the plugs, I got #6 out thanks to this video and was able to get the front one on the passenger side pretty easy from up top and will be tackling the rest tomorrow (the store had to order a few of them which will be here in the morning). the bastard mechanic I paid to do this 5 years ago only swapped the fucking wires and didn't put in the plugs I gave him, which I guess he pocketed for his Grand Prix (same basic motor).
Any idea why my camero won’t drive when put in gear?
Check fluid level. Check if gear selector wire and lever is working on the transmission. Does it drive when you put it down in 1st gear? Trans may need rebuilt.
I never have a problem getting off from the top. Its easy.
thanks for the tip it will be useful!!
I need help locating all of my spark plugs and taking them off on my 96 Pontiac which has a GM L36 on it which is the same as in this video would you be able to write me back or make a video on this?
Do you still have the car?
Sky Reid yes still have it
HOLY SHIT THANK YOU
God bless you too. Great idea Cheers🍻
Man I need your help you seems like you know very very much about the v6 camaro. I have one and have a problem. Hope. You can help me :) you have an email? That i can send you a video with the problem 😅 greetings🙌🏻
Is that cylinder 6
Haven't had this issue on my firebird
Nice 👍 video !!!!!
THANK YOU!
saw another video where they raise the body and lower the motor to do all the maintenance, I might go this route lmao, there is not enough wiggle room to do anything in these cars, really strange because they are pretty large, I guess everything else is a a crash zone.
Got a full video?

U can tell in the 90s engine fixing was getting worse to fix then 2000s even more clogged of parts and wires and hose
I have oil on my spark plugs 02 firebird what is my problem any help???
Motocycle kit socket with a screwdriver
How do your torque it
Mark Missildine the same way you torque everything. “That feels tight enough”
What about #4 that seems the hardest to me
3800 gang
how did you get the middle spark plug on the passenger side?
I removed it from the top. I put an extension on the socket, placed it on the spark plug, then fished my hand and ratchet down to the extension. It was tight, but I got it out.
I can't even pull the wire off the middle plugs
Thank you!!!!!!!
Cool thanks
awesome!
How many plugs would i need on a 93 trans am lt1?
12
Yippers I used a ratcheting 3/4 several yrs ago
The easier access to these motors is from the trunk ... 😂😂
Just put a wrench on it yelp
Ratchet box end wrench
THIS ENGINE IS STUFFED INTO THE CARS ASS WHYYYY
When they build them they don't think about taken it out.
So how do you get the rest lol that's the easy one dude
Watch here: ruclips.net/video/J96P_FQMGro/видео.html I start at the 9:15 minute mark.
YOU also need a better camera!
wooooaaahhh wait a second tighting a spark plug with a ratchet? i thought hand tight was more than enough?
Surely you are joking. Maybe a guy with the strongest hands in the world might get the easy to get at plugs tight enough if he could get both hands on one, but it would be doubtful. A torque wrench is ideal.
Iflew727 I mean, he has a picture of a camshaft as his pfp. So I’m just gonna assume he was being sarcastic.
Yea that's the easy one, how about the front 4 lol
Easy way? Seriously? It's take me 15 minutes for change the 6 sparks with a basic spark socket passing through the hood...
Guillaume Malaquin how, I've been trying to for. hour now
Don't, know, I've done that just before going to work, It really took me 15 minutes ahah
I don't understand how anyone has problems getting #6 plug out on these. I own and maintain an 02 firebird with this same engine and had all 6 plugs changed in 20 minutes, and all access from the top.
@Reece Cantrell 20 minutes was realistic. 30-45 if I was taking my time. 98-02 3800 equipped f-body cars have totally different exhaust manifolds. And that's why. I didn't take that into thought before I made the original comment. That's also why I'm able to reach all 6 from up top easily enough.
Fak🙃😅 thanks
I gave it thumbs down because is way easier from the top....
izzydjinn76 i gave you a thums down cause youre crazy..
+Darrick Mohr
it's honorable to admit you can't do it. it's ok
izzydjinn76 its easier from the bottom ..
+Darrick Mohr
if it changes your plugs... by all means do what's best...
