I had this exact problem. Same solution. bench tested the coil packs, all tested ok. Swapped 2 of them, misfire moved to a different cylinder. New coil packs all around for me. Now I have 2 spares on the shelf, because new parts suck...
Bro this is the first video I’ve seen from this channel and I love! Let’s get wrenching boys…what the hell is a coil I need to swap them out and see if the misfire follows just as he did
I have a 98 v6 and i have the code po305, i changed the spark plug, swapped the wire, got a free new coil pack, changed the injector and ita still flashing , it didnt do this until i took out the fuel tank and put a new pump in and cleaned the tank
I swapped 3 with 5 to isolate 3 misfire, replaced all 3 coils and 2 weeks later it's getting multiple misfires so I'm replacing the ignition control module.
Yeah I had a number 6 missfire, I got a junk yard ICM with coil packs and that fixed the p0300. The number 6 appeared after that and I was like yeah progress lol, I replaced the spark plug and the burnt brittle number 6 wire. Didn't fix but swapped for my old coil and it worked again... well like yours but it trips the missfires but doesn't leave a missfire code. I went back to the junkyard today and had them swap the coil and they give me this pristine one... put that in the spot. It ran great but not completely fixed but way stronger. So now I'm curious about the other junk yard coils. They closed for the day but I want them good looking coils lol
Goodness yeah it was the junk yard coils. lol I went back and got them to replace them with some pristine ones this time... it turned out well... I suppose I did change the 4 fule injector while t/s longer ... so I no longer have a dripping sound when I shut off the engine ha. 50 bucks for icm and coil packs.. . I found out that autozone will bench test that icm which now I have 2.
My 97 camaro was doing the same thing intermintedly. Just changed the 3 coils, #2 had a nice crack and #3 had the 2 polls rusted. Wonder how electricty went through lolll
I got a l67 supercharged 3.8 I swapped in my 99 it's a 5 speed and I changed the rear out with a 02 SS Camaro rear my buddy sold me for 200 3:42 g80 posi Trac I got lot done to my l67 ported lower intake ported the m90 zzp 2.0 PCM 2.4 zzp pulley 80 psi zzp high flow injectors headers zzp long tube 3" zzp down pipe 3" pipe to back no cat borila muffler I daily it 18psi boost runs 11.8 faithfully
Must the car get warm before missing? Mine is missing from when I start it. I replaced the plugs and coils. Still missing. I assume from your video and the similarities it's the ICM. I hate to buy the part and be wrong. Thanks for another great video.
I have code P0302 but only when it rains ... I believe that the coil is cracked ... because I have already placed new spark plugs and spark cables. What do you think ... when the weather is dry the Firebird V6 2002 runs great!!! What do you think guys 🤔
I have run into this issue as well. One of the scoops on my hood lets water in and it drips onto the coil packs! I believe that may be why my coil was cracked.
@@TheDaninator Your video is great ... I'm going to buy the Duralast Ignition Coil tomorrow at Auto Zone ($43.99) and replace it as you showed in your video and then I will wait for the next rain and go for a test run ... then I will update my comment to let you know the results. Note: even when my car is parked outside under the cover parking when it rains I get the code P0302 ... it is just the high 100% humidity ... I talked to a friend of mine who has been a professional auto mechanic for over 40 years and he told me that the ignition coil has a crack and that is why it misfires when it rains ... after speaking to him, I searched the internet and I found your great video showing how to replace the ignition coil ... I also watched your video on how to replace the ignition control module, also a great video ... thank you for teaching us how to test and replace auto parts.
@@patmackay273 save the cracked coil. Grab some silicone and fill the crack if you can. These puppies are expensive. Keep it as an emergency spare in your car. You never know 👍
If you have ruled out electrical, check fuel. Clogged injectors or fuel filter or weak fuel pump. Maybe bad fuel pressure regulator. Worst case, bad cylinder compression.
I tried the same coil pack switch but misfire is worse, PO300 code, "random misfire on multiple cylinders" 🤔, guess its more than a coil pack, any ideas folks?
3800 Misfires are
1. Ignition control module
2. Coil packs
3. Spark plug wires
Go to the junk yard and pull some spares and keep in car.
I own a car with the same engine that I've had since 2015. I usually keep a couple of icms and a handful of coils handy.
Great. Video
1st one to show voltsge checking both primary and secondaries.
And showing it passed test yet had cracked housing !

Great way to eliminate each possibility! Your video ending always makes me laugh out loud 🤣..✌🏻
Good to know theres a RWD 3800 V6. I thought it was FWD only
Great explanation. I will be doing this with my 3800 and hopefully it helps me diagnose my issue…at least with the car

Ignition control module? Or the pin for #5 on its connector?
you ever figure it out? sounds like my current issue. i cant afford to throw any more parts at it?
my 96rs doin the same thing.scanned po303.already ordered the coils.thanks 4 sharin.robertg

Great video bud. Chasing down misfires are always fun. Haha
Great Video! Very Informative! Mine be losing power when accelerating. Gonna try the coil packs! Thanks for sharing!🙏👍😎
Now all you do is seal the cracked coil with some RTV sillicone, And you'll have a spare back up coil for yourself or someone else in need :) ;)
Nice problem solving. Hopefully kind is this easy too but probably not lol

You can test your ignition control module with a multimeter to see if it’s bad or not.
ok. im gonna fix this myself or at least try. but ive had a few ppl tell me to wear gloves. if the car is turned off why di o need gloves?

Same here, I'm changing the ICM next.
My question is. Why is your brake light always on🤔🤔🤔🤨🤨
I believe I have a bad brake cylinder in the rear drum brake… haven’t fixed it yet.
Thanks a lot
What coils is everyone buying? Is there a certain brand i should go after?
Stay away from used equipment
I would stick with OEM brand coils but I would test them before installing with a multimeter because they can be bad new out of the box.
coils test great when cold but dont work when hot
