You can run a single room, yes. But try running a huge map with 64 players or an open world RPG with many characters and missions. Years from now with better hardware, yes. Now? No.
You can still tell it's CG, but only sometimes. We're actually getting to that point where you can play something that looks like real life, which from a tech demo standpoint, is really incredible. I'm a little unhappy with the gameplay side of things of late, but I'm still thrilled to see what pushing our hardware can accomplish. UE4 is a phenomenal engine.

Broo. This is fucking amazing really. I have seen so many interior/exterior scenes done with ue4. But this is one of the best one really. I want to learn unreal engine to create awesome interiors/exteriors like this. Super awesome job really.
with vr this can probably give you A FUCKING BRAIN ANEURYSM, i dont want to sound rude, but immersing yourself in an almost perfect virtual world is dangerous, you stay for too long and your gonna come out like you were the only one that survived looking into the Ark of the Covenant, i used a vr headset on something that looked like it came from 2003 and i had to regain my bearings before i could walk.
Looks fantastic! My Fallout 4 and Skyrim manage about 95% of the graphical fidelity shown here. With about 80 mods installed on on each of course. (GTX 1080)
This level of detail (if computers are able to run it, and if economics are able to support it) should provide a booming market for the artistically inclined folks. When I was a kid, I never dreamed graphics would become so advanced so soon. Mario didn't look so bad back in the day.
The only problem is U4 has limited scalability and can only handle a relatively small sandbox. With very high object count and high poly scenes it's difficult to achieve good MP performance. It's still impressive but with the trend towards open world game development the above limitations are a deal breaker imo.
I think the idea is to use the Unreal 4 Game engine to create the game environment on a high powered work station then you need to scale down the graphics with compression and other mapping tricks in order to make the rendering tolerable on the lowest level computer you want the game to work on. The old way to do this was to have the analysis done of the rendering using only single threaded processing but it now can be done with more processing due to the availability of multicore CPUs. The rendering and mapping is easier when the background is non-interactive that's why so many games are linear but everyone wants the sandbox style of play so you need more systems with more power no matter how you make a game. I'm hoping the engine has addons for this purpose to scale down processing wherever is needed to keep the game smooth.
With the tech Star Citizen is developing, you could probably make a very large, open world game in UE4, considering that over there they're using Amazon Lumberyard, a derivative of Cryengine.
Dark scenes are so much harder to make look good imo, you often see these realistic scenes with tons of lightning and often white bright textures for walls etc. Making good realistic textures from scratch is pretty hard though I have much to learn when it comes to that.
For those having any issue with the resolution, like me, it was a crappy one with PS3 era graphics, no kidding. I've have found the solution, just use the second click of the mouse in the OfficeNN2.exe, properties, compatibility, then select "Override high DPI scaling behavior". I'm on Windows 10. Notice that the resolution of your desktop will be the one the game will start. Mostrar menos RESPONDER
Anyone can make a small demo packed with things. The hard trick is to build a big game with as many packed things...because of limited memory. Small demo obviously will have lots of memory to spare.
GOD hey you,,, yeah you.. u took everything from me u delusional hypocrite fuck, ur a coward and only practice ur so called justice & authorities over weak people, i hate ur guts i despise you. ur not a GOD ur a DOG
I can only imagine how long and how many people it would take to develop a 15-20 hour gameplay videogame with assets with this level of detail. I bet it would take either 5+ years of development with a current, average size development team or the credits would have to roll on for an hour! XD
The lightening blew my mind! the way it bounces of surfaces and the deep realistic shadows...Makes me even doubt its really rendered in real time. Like look at the bike in the apartment. Why can you not move the bike? I would love to see those shadows change shape and move. Or is it rendered in real time? why cant we move things about? Is it really as amazing as they try to make us believe it is? Because as photorealistic this is, it is completely dead if you cannot interact with it. Thats the whole point of a game vs a photo/video right?
Static objects, shadows (of static objects) and the whole static lightning are baked, meaning they are calculated once and saved as somewhat image files that are wrapped into the 3D objects to be shown in real giving the illusion of photorealisim, so ONLY Movable objects and Dynamic lights (Volumetric lighting for ex.) are calculated at real-time this way saving lots of graphic power for other effects like Anti-Aliasing and such.
Thanks now i understand :) Thought it looked to good to be true. Nice graphics still. That maybe explains why (i think) the red futuristic scene dosnt look as "realistic" in the lightening....
Wow. And we will probably have those graphics as in the first demo on mobile devices in a couple of years. Look Unreal Paris on mobile, it's already stunning
Just a few obvious points that caught my eye: * No reflections of moving things. * No AO or colour-bleed on moving things. * No refractions at all. * Rubbish smoke/steam and flames. * Corners of things are unnaturally sharp. Ever wondered why gameplay never looks as good as the trailers, or even the cut scenes? Because they don’t use game engines to render those.
Just checked the winter cabin, it was done in 2014!!!! Omg thats 3 years noe and back there this graphic was that good. No insult on console pls, they all have their people love them. But i gues we can all agree for a NERV Gear to enter the virtual world entirely and also let us feel the cold winter and wind. Smell the burning wood, feeld the hot cooking plate which was turned on btw. I am 26 now, but hope to be alive when NERV Gear gonna get real.
Imagine of Sony of Microsoft made the home page something like the first apartment. For example being able to access areas for different options and then sitting at the couch and selecting your game
I think some *well done* artificial camera bob would help you reach the desired effect. It loses some of the realism when I float from the computer over to the shelves (though I know you're just doing a mouse-guided tour).
Imagening some good "Room escape" game with graphic like this... sick! Btw, I am not able to download 2/3 demos, Scifi Hallway says unavailable on marketplace page.
I think people are drawn to UE4 simply because it has been designed to reduce technical knowledge for artist. The technical work isn't necessarily more difficult, it's just not as fun. That and the Epic community is one of the most supportive, which enables people to get more work done. As far as engine capability though, I don't think it's too much better than CryEngine. Honestly, people don't use CryEngine because it has a steep learning curve, and minimal support from both community and staff. However, the rendering engine in CE still blows away any other engine out there. Not only does it look better but out of the box it's way more optimized. In UE4 you have to bake all of your lighting if you want decent FPS. Forget dynamic lighting, you need a ton of RAM to do that. CE however can render dynamic lighting right out of the box with out the need for a ton of RAM or VRAM. That and it looks much better.
It's so insane in graphics but can't smoothly compile for publishing to all the platforms it says it can without getting plenty of "cooking" errors. Be aware that UE4 gives you the feeling you are "all set' during play mode, because it works only there.
