With the fd 50mm f/1.4 on my gfx 50r, the lens doesnt completely cover the sensor. If I stop down to say f/4 or more, there is a hard vignette. You can totally see the light circle doesnt reach the edges. If you stop down with the 85, do you have the same problem?
Beautiful pictures especially the portraits of that child are stunning …! Would you say the fd is as sharp as the ef 85 mm f 1.2 II so the only difference is that the ef has AF? Are you still enjoying Fuji or back to full frame?
Long rant :-) but anyway I was considering buying this lens for my Hasselblad X1D, not any more as I now have it - partly due to your review. Thanks! It's an amazing lens - also on my Canon A1 film camera
thank you for sharing Joe, I'm waiting my second hand GFX50s to be delivered next week and the look of your images is the one I'm looking for. I am also considering the Canon 50 1.2 L39 lens, was able to play with her 0.95 sister on a FF sensor and the results are great (even tough setting the focus is not easy ;-) From what I can understand 50mm lenses can create more vignetting compared to 85mm: can you confirm that? Also have you ever tried the 50 1.2 L39 on the GFX? Again, thank you so much! Ugo
@@cmolina31 Compared to 5dmk/85L I do like the GFX/110mm f2 more. For some reason I can get hand hold GFX/110mm combo at 1/125 where for 5dmk3 I had to shoot at 1/200 if not 1/250.
Hi Joe I'm friends with Matt McCord, don't live far from him. Just got my 50R and have been shooting Mamiya and Minolta. Which 85 adapted lens do you like the best, the Canon or the Contax? Cheers from Alabama
Corey S. Vaughn Hello Corey. Thanks for checking in. The Contax Zeiss 85mm is smaller and lighter but I love the Canon rendition on their 85mm. Beautifully smooth focus. Lately I’ve been using the Techart AF adapter with the Canon EF 85mm and it’s been amazing. I’ll have a video up about that one soon.
singhanagat I would know off the top of my head. You would need to check the adapter selection to see if the make your body style mount with a Canon FD Mount.
singhanagat I would check with Fotodiox. See if they make a mount for the system your currently using that adapts to the systems glass you would like to adapt.
k Ho From what I’ve seen sharpness, color rendition and bokeh have been similar. They both have significant weight to them. The FD introduces more flare but that’s to be expected. Obviously the big difference is AF on the EF85mm when using a smart adapter. That’s always nice and my hit rate especially at f/1.2 is a lot better.
andrew nichols well for starters the EF version is able to auto focus so you will need a smart adapter like the Kipon or Techart to access AF as well as aperture changes. FD is all manual.
hey.. thanks for making this video.. very informative.. and the pictures look amazing... and i noticed that if you get more tattoos and stop working out and shave off your head, you'd look real "real" angry photographer... please dont do that...
Thanks, great to hear some honest feedback on the lens, will have to add it to my to-get list.
16:14 omg... thats the type of things this beast can do. I owned one, such a nice piece of glass
Excellent Shoots, I just started to give our Canon FD 50/1.4 and FD 85/1.2 on my Fuji X-H1 a new lease of life...
Very nice, thanks for sharing ! FD glass is excellent for the money, L glass bumps it up a couple of steps.
Very interesting attempt! Thx for sharing your thoughts!
Those are some exceptional photographs at the end there, I especially love the composition of the shot at 16:46, very cinematic
Thank you so much
Thank you for the very nice Video. I will try the Canon EF 200mm also 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
The 1.8 version is a great lens
Feels like an older brother giving me advice
Great video... love the sample pictures also.... quality work👍
Thanks great video.
Ken A thanks for watching.

It’s more of large format look. I love using my 85mm 1.2 on gfx 50s. Gives about f/0.8-0.9, like a large format
Hey Anna, what adapter are you using and does it cover the full medium format without croping? Thank you 😊

very good and thank you, what is the profil or preset please?

yours...lol. Fotodiox
@@JoeDAgostinoPhoto Oh cool! Your video came up in our search for Fotodiox!
@@JoeDAgostinoPhoto why is this so funny to me 😂
Aniv Khawaunju I have no idea. Am I supposed to?
Fotodiox Inc that’s great. Love your products.
Thanks for sharing your experience! How is vigneting w/ this lens on the GFX?
Aram Ayazyan thank you! Very slight vignette but is easily corrected in post. Definitely not a hard vignette at all.
@@JoeDAgostinoPhoto thanks!
amazing love canon fd
Have you ever used the Mitakon 65 1.4 that’s native GF mount?

Is the Pentax still your favorite lense for this camera?
Wow! The video was awesome. Subscribed.
Hi Joe..between this and the contax 85mm 1.4...what is better for you? thanks!
im this close __ to buying for the 100s 😆

Nice video. I have the GFX and 110mm and love it. I also have the 85L leftover from my Canon days. Maybe I should try it on the GFX.

Great vid! I'd love to hear your feedback about the mitakon speedmaster 85mm f/1.2 on the gfx system! I just picked one up!
Very good video . I am interested on which adapter did you use for the Pentax 6 x 7 medium format lens which I have quite a few?
For the Pentax 67 I was using a Kipon Beveyes focal reducer adapter which I still have but am contemplating selling off as I do not use it currently.
What song is the intro? I don’t think it’s Norah... thx!
