Hi again! So what about this religious restriction? Perhaps you could explain in future videos again. I just saw your face light up when Harry went through the 9 3/4 wall and I am so irritated. This movie gave so many children so much joy. It is a story. It is fiction. It is phantasy and not reality. George Carlin made a bit about the Bible and religion and I must say, he had a point. So I am wondering how this kind of phantasy is bad. I mean, in comparison, the internet surely must be the devil how fake this is. And don't get me started on the metaverse BS. This is a story. Nothing more. And it is a very good one, too.

@@ajjbs7580 I think you might misunderstand my comment. I am proud of the restrictions I faced with my upbringing, entertainment and media. I have seen what absence of faith and boundaries does to the mind. If you look at the studies on how they influence young minds it might alarm you. It is a parents responsibility to do what they feel is best for their child until the said child is old enough to make the decisions themselves. Not all entertainment is acceptable as simplistic/harmless as it might seem - regardless of our opinions.
Also, parents should study their children to determine what sort of entertainment is comfortable for their minds. As an adult, I am EXTREMELY grateful for how I was raised. I honestly would NOT trade places with anyone. I also believe we are all entitled to our experiences without any judgment - Harry Potter fans had their upbringing and Christian Lovers had theirs - we all make the world what it is.

In the book, the scene where Harry buys basically all the sweets from the trolley and Ron is embarrassed about just having a rat for a pet, the way the author described it from Harry‘s perspective was quite touching. She wrote something to the effect of: „Harry thought there was nothing wrong about not being able to afford an owl (which is the pet Ron would have liked to have). Before Hagrid had come, Harry hadn‘t been able to afford anything and even had to wear Dudley‘s old clothes although they were far to big.“ and „Harry didn‘t mind sharing sweets with Ron at all. Up until very recently he hadn‘t had the money to buy them, nor did he have anyone he could have shared them with.“

It’s very important to understand the wands for the series. Each wand has a core (dragon heart string, unicorn hair, phoenix feather, etc…) Harry and Voldemort each have a phoenix feather core, but it’s special because the two feathers came from the same phoenix. That makes them sibling wands, and creates a special connection that comes to play in the future. So he was saying here that it’s strange that two beings destined to be foes were also destined to have sibling wands.

    • @Cramblit
      @Cramblit 2 года назад +7

I wish they would have added a few moments in the book though towards the very end of the story. Where Petunia finally acknowledges her sister, and harry's situation, and stands up to her husband about it. It shows that she really wasn't as delusional and ignorant of what was going on, she just didn't like it, and was extremely jealous of her sister for getting to be a witch and she didn't. But that one moment in the book really shed the cloak of pompous cruel sister, and was a window into what was really going on with her.
The same situation with the son, when he finally makes peace with harry before they leave, and you realize he did respect Harry, and understood more than you'd think, despite how he treated Harry. They actually filmed that part, but left it out. I was very upset about that.

it's nice to see someone really care about harry's situation with his aunt and uncle. a lot of people just breeze past it, but they are unimaginably cruel to a little baby boy who had done nothing wrong. all he did was be born. he deserved love and care, not to be locked in a cupboard under the stairs for eleven years. if you ever read the books, you might cry over how mean they are to him.
edit: yes, wands have personalities as well! they're tools, yes, but kind of sentient. they pick out the wizard, so they're all suited to each other. also, hagrid buying harry a present of an owl and giving him a birthday cake are, i believe, some of his very first birthday presents that actually count as presents. otherwise he gets old used socks from uncle vernon, or a single toothpick.
edit AGAIN: yeah, draco is very much concerned with his last name. they don't get into it in this movie, or in the others exactly, but there are very old wizarding families that are able to trace their lineage way back, and are obsessed with only marrying other full-blooded wizards to keep the blood pure. he's from one of those families, and has been raised to think that's the most important thing about him, not his character. you're not reading into draco's insult at all- the weasleys are poor, and draco is very rich, and puts his family name first because it's most important and impressive. the malfoys have a lot of sway within the school and magical government.

For those who are still wondering, the publishers changed the original title of Philosopher’s Stone to Sorcerer’s Stone for the American release because they concluded that American children would be unable to associate the Philosopher’s Stone with magic so they needed a more on the nose title to make it as obvious as possible

Yep. Ron is the youngest of 6 boys and has a younger sister. His dad is kind, ethical, and honest, but doesn't make much money. So the family gets by, but there is definitely a lot of secondhand, and Ron is very sensitive to that. Draco never misses a chance to pick at it, as he is from one of the richer families.

Each wand has a core that sits inside the wood. The core usually comes from magical creatures like unicorns, dragons, phoenixes. Unicorns would give their hairs. Dragons would give their heartstrings. Phoenixes would give their tail feather. No two unicorns or dragons or phoenixes are the same. Each animal only would give *one*. Harry’s wand has a phoenix tail feather. The wand that performed the curse to kill Harry’s parents and himself also had a phoenix tail feather. Except that both Harry’s wand and Voldemort’s wand had their core from the very same phoenix, which made the two wands brothers. This is extremely rare and unusual. This was why Mr Ollivander said it was curious that the phoenix feather wand *chose* Harry when its brother was the one that was used to attempt to kill him.

It was a double insult. First, implying that if Ron's family was poor it was somehow a bad thing, and second implying he's poor just because his family is frugal. Who knows if the Weasleys are poor from this movie, but with older taller siblings why in the world would you buy new generic uniforms when the old ones were worn for a couple of years at most, and are still good?

While waiting I watched all of the movies that were out with her and then we saw all of the others together in the theater as they came out. The last 2 we brought her 2 younger sisters along because they were hooked by then as well. 😂

My nephew was excited about it at the time, and he was telling me a whole lot of information about it that I could not find myself bonding with him properly about it and he was 12 at the time too. So, I watched the movie when it came out and the 4th Harry Potter book was already out according to him, so my husband and I watched the 1st movie first and we enjoyed it so much I bought all 4 books to read them! LOL! After I read the books, I called my nephew on the phone, and we were BONDING over Harry Potter! Made my heart melt! 💕 Anyway, what I am about to let you know is not a spoiler but just to avoid confusion once you get to the 3rd movie. you pretty much understood a key element of the entire series at 20:30, something that wasn't very clear in the last few books with the Hallows. pretty impressive for someone who hasn't read the books or ever seen the movies, and was kept away from references to the series growing up. The director of the film didn't even know how important this would be later on (Rowling had not finished writing the books yet, although she tried to chime in during film production about things that would be important eventually). I like what you said about the wand activating him and not the other way around - that was well-said and not a detail I really thought about as a super-fan. Subscribed.

Ollivander has been around a very long time and he remembers every detail of every wand he ever sold so he recognises a LOT of people.
As for the Dursleys - I think the thing is supposed to be that they are prejudice against magic and so that is why they act that way towards Harry. This series deals with a lot of issues like that and by doing it with the magic they are able to address issues which are very sensitive.

To answer a few of your musings-
wand cores: there are three used by Ollivanders. Unicorn hair, dragon heartstrings, and phoenix feathers.
Harry and Voldemort's wands are brothers because the feathers come from the tail of the same phoenix, but are not identical twins because it is two separate feathers.
there are also multiple types of wand woods. Harry's wand is made of Holly. Voldemort's is made of Yew (if I recall).

Excited to see you do Harry Potter! Always loved the books since I was a child and have re-read them multiple times :) I'll be here in the comments answering questions you might ask during your reactions, without any spoilers of course!
04:30 - They changed the original title to Sorcerers Stone in america (and some other countries I'd assume) to make it easier for children to understand
09:35 - Aye, and to make it even worse: Dudley actually has *two* bedrooms to himself. One for his actual bedroom, the other as a sort of storage to all the toys that doesnt fit in his real bedroom. The Dursleys get scared when they find out that the wizards know Harry lives under the stairs, so in an attempt to fool the wizards they eventually give Harry the second bedroom for a short while before they escape to the Shack in the sea
26:25 - The Leaky Cauldron is more of a Tavern or an Inn!
31:35 - Ron actually laughed at the name Malfoy, they are one of the ancient fully magical families and consider themselves basically royalty in the wizarding community. Ron and his family are very *against* "pure blood supremacy". You are spot on with your analysis on Ron Weasley and Draco Malfoy, it's all correct :)
39:50 - That's Percy Weasley! He's a Prefect, which is a lot more of a deal in the books but I don't think it's ever talked about in the movies
I hope you do the whole series and have a blast while doing so!

in case you wanted to know more about the Hogwarts Houses!
The Sorting Hat was enchanted by the Hogwarts founders to analyze the students’ traits and values (and possibly their futures) to determine which House fits them the best.
Gryffindor is the house of the brave and the daring. their colors are red and gold and their mascot is a lion.
Ravenclaw is the house of the intelligent and the witty. their colors are blue and bronze and their mascot is an eagle (because eagles have “raven” claws, or black claws. they took it too literally in the films and changed it to a raven unfortunately, and the colors were changed to blue and black.)
Hufflepuff is the house of the kind and the loyal. their colors are yellow and black and their mascot is a badger.
Slytherin is the house of the ambitious and the cunning. their colors are green and silver and their mascot is a snake. not all Slytherins are bad, it just so happens that the traits/values that a lot of Slytherins have can easily be used for evil, and a lot of dark wizards are Slytherins. but again, not all Slytherins are inherently “evil”.
if you want to see which House you’d be fit for, you can go to the official Wizarding World website, make an account, and take the official Sorting Hat quiz! i’m a Hufflepuff 😊💛

I'm sure you'll enjoy this series. The first two films are more for children, but they do help set up the story. It gets a bit darker with each film after that. I only mention this because sometimes reactors see the first film or two and feel like the whole series is going to be about young children and silly adventures. It gets more serious as you go, and it delivers in the end.

"OHHH MY God, Jesus is LORD. ... RUN RUN RUN RUN!" ^7^ I loved every minute of this reaction, Kso, and I can't wait for the 2nd part!
Seriously, I love how you go deep into the subtext of everything here. You sense the gravity in things not everyone does. Noting the hate of Autn Petunia (venom), pointing out that in most cultures Draco outright insulted Ron *and* his family & that those are words worthy of a fight, realizing then how much more it meant that Harry shared money & candy with Ron, commenting that Hermione is smart but very much too forward, and paying attention to how all the adults react to Harry. I love it.
^^ Also I'm a sucker for your reactions to all the animals, whether scared or loving them, big or small, lol.
If you do continue down this series, I greatly await it. Your insight will be along for quite a ride through this vast cast and world of wizardry~

For the books, in the UK it's called the "Philosopher's Stone", while in the US it's called the "Sorcerer's Stone". This change ended up moving over to the movie since the movie was made by an American company (Warner Brothers). Technically, since the author is British, the original would be the "Philosopher's Stone". They might have changed the book's title because people wouldn't know what was meant by a "Philosopher" perhaps, idk, but the author regretted changing it after the fact, afaik.

The three headed dog is a reference to the Greek mythological dog Cerberus Sho guarded the gates of the underworld to keep out the living and stop the dead from escaping. Having a heroic story, one of the requirements is to have a literal or figurative “Descent into the Underworld” (in Lord of the Rings we had the Mines of Moria, Mordor itself, in Star Wars, the Death Star detention block, in The Wizard of Oz, we have the witch’s castle and so on). So, quite literally, the third floor corridor has a three headed dog guarding the entrance to the Underworld of this story not unlike a Greek epic.

Came to your channel for the Pride and Prejudice reaction and was overjoyed to see the Harry Potter reaction! You may have learned this since this video went live, when you were talking about how Harry is famous in his community - that community is called the "Wizarding World" and when used in the books/movies it covers not just Witches and Wizards but also all of the magic buildings and artifacts and creatures tha know about the existence of magic. If you hear fans talking about the Wizarding World they are talking about the Harry Potter books and movies and EVERYTHING that came from the Harry Potter universe like the Fantastic Beasts movie series and video games. One of my favourite scenes in the whole series is Harry saying, " I think you've made a mistake. I mean, I... can't be a... a wizard. I mean, I'm... just... Harry. Just Harry."
That is Harry through and through.
Harry was the only person to have ever survived the killing curse so of course everyone in the Wizarding World knew about him, even kids. Also kids go to Hogwarts school at 11 and no one but a very few, knew where he had been since his parents death, so obviously everyone was expecting him to finally appear that year to start his school education.

My best friend growing up had parents from Ethiopia and I remember her mom, Asghedet, teaching me how to cook! (My parents were kind of eat out/packaged food types so it was a real blessing! Nowadays I'm called the chef in the family because I'm the only one who cooks and I LOVE LOVE LOVE cooking and trying new recipes!) To this day I still make injera and the topping dishes you pile on top, at least once a month! I have injera batter fermenting in my fridge right now actually haha. I would love to try some traditional Nigerian recipes, I bet they are DELICIOUS! It would also be fun to see you make some recipes from your subscribers' countries to try them!

The reason the movie has two different names is because in the UK its called the Philosopher's Stone and in the US its the Sorcerer's Stone. In the UK in medieval times a Philosopher was a sorcerer. But Americans are not accustomed to hearing that term so for the US the book's name was changed. Even the movies are different in each country. If you watch the American release the stone is referred to as the Sorcerer's Stone and the actors in the movie call it that in the film. But in the British release the actors call it the Philosopher's Stone in the movie. When the movie was filmed all the actors who had to say the name of the Stone had to say it both ways in order to accommodate both countries dialects.

The reason the movie has two names, Philosopher and sorcerer, was because when the books and movies were published in the United State, the publishers feared that the American youth were too uneducated to know the word philosopher, which is why they changed it to sorcerer.
