    I just purchased the SPB145. I can tell you that the SPB series is superb. It's very nice in picture/video, the actual piece is superb and when you put it on, it's magnificent and elegant. Fits perfectly even when you have a small wrist like mine. Just one suggestion if you are planning to purchase, don't try to even up the links when you resize it, put one more on the 12 side so the clasp will be on center of the back of your wrist.

    I live in Japan and I got the Seiko SBDC107/SPB149J on 6/19/2020 and I love it. The new in-house movement, the new bracelet, the bezel action, the blue dial, the finish, etc, everything about it is really good for the price. This is the size that I have been waiting for, and with this SBDC series of watches, I think Seiko will FINALLY wake up to the fact that there is a huge amount of money to be made in these smaller sizes vintage homage divers watches market. In terms of accuracy, I am seeing around +5 seconds a day thus far. I just wanted to comment here because I recommend any of the Seiko SBDC/SPB watches because aside from variation in colors, they are all basically the same.

    People will buy a $1000 microbrand watch with no history or in house movements but complain when seiko asks for what they deserve while they give you both mentioned above

    • @cy4624
      @cy4624 4 года назад +5

      Many/most of these micro brands wouldn't exist if they didn't outright copy the design of established iconic designs in addition to use Seiko movement.
      People forget even if the micro offers better spec/parts, it is still a homage or niche product that will never have the historical significance and iconic status of Seikos that make them collector's dream while most of these micro will fold over time and become long forgotten/worthless.
      Seiko also had to spend millions to design, market ,distribute and popularize the design, that micros copying and drop shipping from rebadged OEM don't incurr.
      That's why you see 100's new micros every year, because it cost them relatively nothing for marketing/overhead) to drop ship.

      Whats the advantage of 'in house movement"? harder repair?

    • @cy4624
      @cy4624 4 года назад +3

      @@wlodziozczestochowy it's mostly marketing.
      With the internet, people started finding out their $ 5,000-20,000 watches often had the same movement(renamed and disguised) as your basic entry level watches.
      That put the pressure of big names to come up with something to justify cost
      Everyone rushed for "inhouse" trend but fact is movements are very difficult to engineer and most of these companies with their "new inhouse" don't have a clue as they have no experiemce and rush unproven designs so they can be "I am in house too"
      Failure rates for Inhouse is Sig. Highrer as well as the servicing cost.
      Eta/valjoux can be worked on by everyone and parts are available, many of these In ouse movement will become extinct and unusable and must be sent to manufacturer.
      The most accurate/robust in my experience is properlt regulated valjoux 7750 which beat my other inhouses for reliability/accuracy while costing 1/10-1/60 of these inhouses while not as well finished...
      Even at entry level, I have many Seikos that runs 0/day -1-2/week and these run forever with min. Maintenance. I have had issues with many inhouses as well as the dreaded Dubois Duprez chronos.
      Only go with in house from those who been doing it before the trend...
      JLC, seiko/G.S, glaschutte, GP, ALS,e
      etc.

    • @lowersaxon
      @lowersaxon 4 года назад +2

      History? Is history good for accuracy? No? But? „ I’m serious Horologist, I wear History Brands“, so? Inhouse movement? And that means better accuracy? Man, I enjoy any nice watch with ETA or Sellita movement. They a r e accurate. What are you talking about? Are you new to the scene? Who told you these, well .. ‚arguments‘?

    • @adamperks9113
      @adamperks9113 4 года назад +1

      @@lowersaxon I had a Sinn 104 with top grade sellita SW-220 and it ran +8 seconds per month (worn daily). Better than my other watches with in-house movements. The fact is, like you say, ETA and Sellita are accurate. Any top grade ETA/Sellita/Valjoux can be regulated to +/- 1 SPD, just comes down to the skill of the person doing the regulating.
      The added benefit is cheaper service costs and easier parts availability too. I love in house, but nothing wrong with a good quality non-inhouse movement

    These are pretty much the watch that I've been waiting for Seiko to make, sounds like they are selling really well so hopefully it will show them that having a few smaller sized watches in their lineup is a great addition!
    I havent had a chance to see any other than the gilt dial model yet which isn't to my taste personally, what I did see next to it is the green Williard and I couldn't help but think how amazing this watch would look with that olive green dial and bezel, I think that would be my favourite if they released one like that, a bit like the Monta Triumph colour.
    I'd like to see the blue and grey in person but its unlikely any dealers near me will be able to get hold of the blue one now I expect.
    Great in depth video, thanks for taking the time to make these ro show us all these gorgeous watches 👍

    Been waiting on this one for a while. I think it looks absolutely outstanding. So much noise about Seiko prices going up; the fact of the matter is this is a great value when you consider build quality, design and heritage. I might get "flamed" for saying this, but when compared to $8000.00 for a Sub, who can't see the value? I could afford a Rolex, but if I ever got one, I'd be terrified of wearing it; I'm not well off enough where I could just wear a Sub and not be mindful of every little scratch or ding. That would bother the heck our of me. And while I like a lot of the micro brands, this thing just speaks to me. Seiko is going to sell a ton of these. No doubt!

    Perfect design, specs, and dare I say price point. $1000 is very fair for this considering you're getting a lot of heritage from the brand. If that's not something that's of importance to you then there are plenty of microbrands out there offering similar quality for 40-50% of the cost. Just wish this had a female end link as I feel like it aesthetically looks better and sits better on wrist. Great job by Seiko nonetheless.

    Being a Rolex Sea Dweller 126600 owner, I seriously did not expect myself to like this. But guess what, I can't keep my eyes off this video. The rich heritage, the bold and yet mature looks, I can't wait to buy one.

      Snobbery much? Why would you not like the SPB143 just because you own a 126600? Kinda like a modern 911 owner saying he/she may not be able to appreciate a Mustang.

    I'm very interested in this watch. It's an awesome overall design. I can see $800-900 being an appropriate price. I still think Seiko needs to gut their entire bracelet division. The brushing looks nice but the DNA of the clasp system remains the same (make an adjustable bracelet!) and the tolerances between the case and the end links still shows some gaps and they could do a much better job of making it look integrated. Its like looking at something with soft rounded edges against hard straight lines. They need to tighten that up and make everything flush and more linear. Surely that can't be hard nor expensive. I'd pay another $400 just for these changes.

    • @moose201

    In my opinion, $1200 is a fair price for this watch. I know people often like to say, "just pick up a san martin or heimdaller homage for $200-300". I think heimdaller and san martin are great budgets homages if you don't care about the heritage of the watch or the seiko brand. Just like how invicta makes perfectly fine rolex submariner homage watches. However I'm personally willing to pay the extra money for the upgraded 6r35 movement with a 70hr power reserve, diashield on the watch and bracelet, and a true seiko 62mas re-imagining. Hopefully i get one without any alignment issues.

      Not so long ago we were used to paying about 400 for an Alpinist, and most of their 6r line. Besides, i can't really justify getting this watch, while owning a second hand Seamaster ceramic paid less than the sticker price of this Seiko.
