The places you've been, the people you've met, the memories you've made.... priceless. Keep posting your life's adventures Maddy, and we'll keep watching.
Your van build and total cost were certainly worth the price and effort plus you take us along on your journey. I’d say your vanlife is priceless! Thanks Mandy.
This was most informative! For anyone contemplating a van build, it’s a must view. Plus with your extensive spread sheet, this is absolutely helpful!👏👏👏👏👏🙏🏼
I really love this video. Very concise and Technical. You seem very knowledgeable about all the systems in your van which is awesome. You obviously can fix any problem that comes your way. Many vanlifers out there don't have a clue about how these things work. Much love 💘 🤗 You're one of my all-time favourite channels. BTW persistency is a word and it describes you perfectly. 😀
You did such an awesome job! I love your van. For sure all your travels and adventures are so worth the prices you paid and the hours you put in to build it. I so love your videos, your art and your take on things. You should be very proud of yourself, I know all of us who watch you admire you so much!
This was excellent Maddie! And you can certainly be proud of what you’ve built. Another part of the value calculus is that you actually built something of value, rather than burning money on rent. You have equity in your tiny home on wheels.
I say you did an excellent job on your van! I agree, you may have to go out of state to get what you want. I also agree with the places you have been makes up for the money you spent. It was worth it. Granted there is good and bad in everything like taking showers, but that can be easily fixed. I watched your other friend video as well, I think visiting in Mexico.. I love both your videos. I'm 58 and disabled, I can't travel because of my back and on oxygen, so I live through the videos that you show, places I will never see, I got to see on your videos so Thank you!
I just love you and your vlogs! I cried when Ellie left, I can't imagine you traveling alone anymore, she'll be missed! You have such a soothing voice that is so kind, peaceful and smart! I'm so happy you're recharging at your family home. Sending lots of love and hugs and peace and hope 🥰😘💘💔
Maddie - you are an amazing content creator - and more beautiful than the golden flowers that bloom. So grateful for your hard work and free living. God bless you!
Wow you did great on the build, the places, the visual beautiful landscapes and the people you met I call that priceless. Maddie you keep the spirit of you going, you are an amazing lady 😊
Maddie, Thank you for taking the time and making the effort to categorize, list, and explain the costs related to your van build. I'm sure that many of us viewers appreciate your work!
This is the video that had me to become a subbie. You did a cool thing in explaining your build prices. I have a class B but someday I can see myself creating a custom build. Keep enjoying yourself. 🌺💕
Great episode Maddie! Van builds are definitely budget based, my build with a new sprinter and plug n play interior was closer to $90k and that’s with me doing all the work, i will say i bought the best in everything. Thank you for sharing that the van experience out weights the money!
Thank you for going through that and going through the prices yes it helps out a lot I'd like to do something by a van and do something like that myself but I'll see you in your next video be safe
I really enjoyed you cutting down on what it cost to build something I didn’t realize how much batteries and wire in insulation and all that stuff talked about, but I am determined that I want to do it, My husband is doing well and it’s scaring me but I need something to look forward to and I’ll probably build it myself with help thank you I just think what you said about all the friends and everything you’ve seen it was well worth it but just think you still have a van and you can resell it and still get a lot of your money back
You have shown us a lot, and given new friends, my subscriptions have expanded to many of your friends! I had a Renrgy inverter 3500 watt for 6 months, worked fine, then one day it sparked and popped, nearly caught fire, they did refund my money, Christen also had that happen! I bought a different brand that had buss fuses that will blow instead 4000 watt works good so far! Thank you for being a friend!
This is a fantastic video and I have been really really wanting to see this video as I want to find out how much it would cost to get my own van in Australia so thank you for the rough idea on the price amount please stay safe and strong and prayers and thoughts for you love your family friend John xxxx
What an inspiring video. Thank you so much for the breakdown!! I am 99% sure I want to do van life and after watching your video, it just gave me the chills. I just hope I can make it all come together financially. I look forward to following your journey!
Thank you, Maddie, I am just getting ready to do my first (and hopefully only) fit-out This sort of detailed costings video and included spreadsheet is really welcomed and may assist me in not forgetting something important for my build. Hopefully, more van/bus/boxtruck lifers will follow your lead and share their build costings etc. Again, thank you very very much !!
Your best video, looked so confident, wonderful presentation, thank you for sharing your Van Life/costs with us today, stay safe and healthy from Henrico County Virginia
I do believe you just gave me the final kick in the ass I need to get myself a van. While I would never give up my amazing home in Montana and actually just look forward to going across the valley and spending the night in the woods with all the Comforts of home. I will admit it's a bit disheartening that when I Google van conversions near Missoula I get diddly squat. If you or anybody in your tribe would like to help build out a van while being parked for free in Paradise, leave me a message. That thing they call the law of attraction is probably what led me to your video and I know it'll lead me to a van for manifesting has always been my strong suit, it's only with age that I've learned to do so deliberately and less Often by default. Thanks for all the good advice.
I wanted to say thank You for introducing us to Elli … thinking of You 💐🌼🌺🌸✌🏼💯💯❤️🙏🏻, I know you love flowers !!! And none were harmed in the making of this message 😂✌🏼
Thank you for this video..it helps a lot the thinking process when having in mind to buy a van…it indeed the most difficult thing..find THE van the one! And prices are creamy! I mean crazy!
The good thing is you don't have to worry about paying rent or power and you save more aswell I own a campervan but it only gets used in the summer time or when I go traveling and camping it's a awesome thing to do but otherwise it just sits at home till I'm ready to hit the road 😊
Maddie, Thank you so much for sharing this. I'm probably a decade older than you buy have been watching your videos with wanderlust for quite sometime. I keep wondering if I could somehow pull this off for myself and with really like to. I couldn't view the spreadsheet but, I would love to if the link is fixed. Thank you again!
The one big point about AGM to lithium comparison I would make is AGM batteries 🪫 only allow you to use 1/2 of their amp hours. $ for $ the lithium batteries store more usable energy and cut the weight down. The prices are scary though. Great information thanks so much
HEy Maddie I liked your video alot on how you broke down costs. What I wanted to say, even though you got more than. your money back just in traveling and all the people you've met and seen, easily the van with the total build is worth at least double, if not more, than what it originally costed you, if you were to sell it. Good job, good investment.
Awesome video!! Thoroughly enjoyed the information and facts you provided as I start the research process of my desire’s and wishes to make the move to this life. Thank you for your honesty and light hearted approach to the subject! And the Bloopers are awesome, too! Do you have a Patreon account, I’d like to help support your work and journey.
I was reading a breakdown on some group or other about van fridge efficiency and the energy savings between cooler style and upright becomes pretty negligible if you’re frequently having to leave the cooler style open to dig down to the bottom and find things. So if you ever do another build just go for it. I will say I’m in a hotel for work right now and though the fridge in my room is at least 2/3 larger in exterior dimensions it can’t hold nearly what the truckfridge in my van can hold and I did t realize quite how lucky I got with that choice. Now I just need to raise it higher, I hate having my food near the floor when it’s time to load the groceries or clean the fridge.
My sleeper van, $20k for the van, $300 for the build. (Mostly batteries, bedding, wood/hardware). ADD: $250 for remote start unit/install. (important for automatic AC/Heating)
Hi Maddie, I just want to let you know that the link that you posted in your description is to your hard drive. 😬 Do you have it to where you can share a link from your Google drive or somewhere else? Thank you so much for sharing all this information it means a lot to me. ❤️
I'm going to be building out a Mercedes Sprinter, would go full on E but the range is boo boo at the moment. I'm buying used and doing about 30k ish in fab. I'm a software engineer I work remotely and super intrigued about subverting the system.
Because manufactured RVs are overpriced garbage, basically. They are mass produced, poorly constructed, expensive to insure, they’re full of particle board and veneer that may be fine for going and parking in a campground but don’t hold up to what a van can do. Plus they’re ugly inside.
Nice talk of break down costs. Before watching the video, I thought the total cost of vanlife build might be around $5000-$6000 (except the van cost). After watching the video, I'm a little tense & nervous.
I think it is doable. I also planning to same budget, buti it is not hard limit - If needed and wanted, I probably stretch budget. Still, 10K should allow you to do all if built wisely (not fancy offroad stuff though).
i want to do this, i find apartment destroying my saving ability, i barely use any of the space i have and my rent is cheap in terms of what i get for its size as ive been living there for 14 or more years, but realistically all i need is a bed and desk, for my computer, internet, a stove, and some showering (i like a shower but if my life is far more cheap to live in a van and i can actually save money travel meet people and live life or work less that would trump shower all day everyday ) not to mention i could probably join a gym membership and go to a gym regularly while showering. My worries are more, if my van gets stolen, when ever i leave it to do work, or go to gym etc, as it might be a prime target for theft and i have no one to watch over it. second major concern, earning money while living in one, if im in a city, they are hard to park apparently as they consider it loitering sorry if i miss spell it, thirdly if im not in a city, where do you get food . Biggest concerns are definitely food, and earning money.
How long did it take to complete your build (weeks)? Approximately how many hours did you put in? You did a beautiful job. A friend just had a Promaster 136 WB done by a professional conversion company. Not nearly as nice as yours.
@@DavidDLee A few reasons! Following instructions properly, doing a lot of research prior to actually doing the work, and perhaps most easily... because everything worked exactly how it was supposed to without problems. :)

Re: tools
An oft overlooked resource is the public library. Some branches rent tools, sewing machines, lawn mowers, etc. Definitely worth researching.

Don't forget the resale value of the van too. You've probably already more than broken even financially too taking that into account
Lovely! I was wondering, why do people prefer to transform a van into a home and not just like buy a motor home or a camper van?
Hard to be stealthy in a 40ft motorhome
Because manufactured RVs are overpriced garbage, basically. They are mass produced, poorly constructed, expensive to insure, they’re full of particle board and veneer that may be fine for going and parking in a campground but don’t hold up to what a van can do. Plus they’re ugly inside.

TV vs microwave are on opposite ends ...TV not so much power but a microwave yea ...1500 watts vs bout 80 watts
Did you build and install the custom cabinets? The plumbing and you are not worried about leaks? The electrical, and you are not worried about fires?
Yep! lived in the van for three never had any problems with leaks or electrical fires because everything was done properly :)
