I really enjoyed this episode. I had my colours done years ago and I still have them in my mind when picking yarn for sweaters, etc. Both of you give off such beautiful positive energy. Thx for making the video.
For me as a literary scholar, the connection between color and poetry is truly mind blowing! I think that might be exactly why color play is one of my favorite things about knitting, because it links to my love of literature and the joys of playing with language. Thank you so much for an amazing episode!
Hello ladies! I was mesmerized by the way all the colors pop and sing together when chosen wisely according to the right season. I definitely need that in my life! I would for sure consider participating in such a retreat.
I had my color (and style) done by House of Color a year ago. DO IT! I promise you won't regret it. It's the most fun I've ever had as an adult. And it's the most valuable thing I've ever done for myself. I can absolutely say that it will save me money in the long run (in yarn alone). It already has. But more than saving money, it has opened me up even more (didn't think that was possible) to color. I did it for a few reasons, one being that I wanted to stop buying yarn colors for my personal projects that didn't wow me in the end. The biggest surprise? I love and look fantastic in.....wait for it.....lavender? What? I didn't even like lavender before. This video is such a great service to the knitting community. Thank you, Jackie and Melissa!! p.s. I just knew you were a Summer like me. So fun being right. lol
This made me happy. I was a color consultant in the 80’s. It delights me to lean in to this with others. I have sweater quantities of yarn that appeared to be my color only to arrive and learn the hard lesson of “screen” color shifting. My sister and eldest daughter are warm and so be it, I shall knit for them.
Thanks Jackie and Melissa; great podcast. I would love to attend a color theory retreat. It would be so interesting to find my color range as I love color.
Wow so much food for thought in this episode. Thanks for sharing. I definitely will look at my color selections differently going forward. One day I will like to get the color analysis done.
So great to see Melissa here as your guest, Jackie. Melissa, you absolutely shine and radiate in 'your colors', a testament to your HoC work. Every item you wore or held to your face just worked gorgeously! I so wish I could see you for a consult, but I will look for a rep in my NY area. Your enthusiasm is delightful and I know it’s because you believe in what you do, and it shows! All the best to you!
Great inspiration - made me go searching for the color analys I made in the early 90’s. And also made me realize that I really need to think about what fits my wardrobe rather than what pattern I fall in love with. Not that one need to exclude the other but you get what I mean 😊. Thanks for a putting so much effort in teaching us knitters to be stylish ❤
Whatta pleasure it was to watch this. It's so true that some are pure that or that season. And some of us are like stardust,we are every season. Enjoyed every sekund. Would love to see the Summer make-up versus the Spring one. A thousand thanks. 🤍💋🖤
Thanks so much for this fun and educational episode. I am over the moon happy that Mesissa is a spring. I had my colours done when I was much younger and now as a 60 + grandmother with graying hair , can you tell me if my colours should be revisited? I love All the clolours. I most likely won't get to Wisconsin again as I live on the east coast of Canada (PEI) and we actually took a road trip this past summer and did drive thru many beautiful stared, including yours . Take care Marilyn
Hi Jackie, I just finished watching this episode with Melissa and loved it. Can't wait to be back in the States (I live in Paris, France) to do a color analysis. I am totally interested in a retreat. That would be super fun. Please do put me on the list, if there is already one. Thank you for all your generous sharing.
This was such a fun episode! I love hearing about colour analysis and it was wonderful to see it related to our knitting projects. A delight to hear Melissa’s enthusiasm. Look forward to your ‘new summer colours’ in your future projects Jackie. The colour/knitting retreat sounds fabulous and if it wasn’t so far from New Zealand, I would love to join you.💖💖
Thank you so much ladies! So many good points! I don't live in Wisconsin but if you decided to do a retreat I would definitely consider coming! Keep planning! 😊❤
I loved this! Thank you so much. I am being more mindful in my knit and sewn garments to create a wardrobe that looks good on me and figuring out what style I want. This was so inspiring and if I lived closer to Madison I would absolutely attend a retreat!
Thank you both! This was so much fun and a real game-changer when I had my colors done several years ago. I am a true Autumn and just love the earthy tones that bring me to life. Count me in for a Madison Retreat!
Many good points to consider. We want to look the best after knitting for hours on a garment. Often the right color will compensate for not so perfect knitting skill. Jackie is an exception in that she looks great in everything!
This is so inspiring! This came really in time for me. I lately thought so much about color and me not being good with color. I can see it, but I cannot easily DO it. Last month I needed to buy three different soft green colors for our garden house to find the right one. The first was way too turquoise which I eventually realized while painting the first wall, it looked like a swimming pool. And it didn’t look blue on the color chart. I thought they mixed up the wrong color, really. I stopped and looked through the room with a lot of windows and nature coming in with all the greens and pinks and I knew it had to be a different green to be harmonious. In the end it had to be a warm green, a color I would never ever choose for me to wear, but it looks great in this room. It is all about interaction with the surroundings and about combination. It is not possible to separate the room from the word outside. Anyway, I really would like to do the same for me I did for my garden house. And I would book a course with Melissa ASAP because she is so sweet and welcoming but I live in Germany. I know I am a cool toned person, I know all those warm browns are not for me. I tend to wear neutrals (always on a minimalistic course) and yesterday I thought about the hiding thing a lot you two mentioned, and maybe I have been hiding enough, or at least it is time to show up from time to time like a very rare flower that blooms only one night. And boy! I would love to learn how to choose the right lipstick. And Jackie: I think that you always tell a whole story by creating an outfit. You are so good with styling and combining. So playful. I do this a lot with interior and gardening, but not with my wardrobe. And I really like the idea of creating outfits and not only grab some neutral things. Sometimes I need a kick to see clearly. Thank you!
Thank you so much for your thoughtful response!! Wish we were closer - I’d love to drape your colors! There may be someone near you. There is a consultant in the Netherlands - Angelique! She’s also a knitter! Sending all the good vibes to you and your color journey, whatever it may be! 🥰💕🌈✨
If I did not live on the other side of the world, I definitely would be very interested in going to a retreat, or having my colours done with Melissa. Two very talented girls
New here and yes , play with colour and mix and match and see what works. I always try it on and stand back and kinda go in my visual , artistic mode , poetic mode also works Thanks ladies ❤
Sign me up. That would be amazing and what a great way to make our knitting really work for us and be even more dear. I'd come all the way from San Diego!!
Thank you so much for this. I'm very interested in getting my colours done and I live in the Netherlands. Can you share the name of the colour consultant based in NL, please? Thanks!
This was such a fun episode! I have no clue what I look good in!! But next time I buy a new garment I will pay close attention to that I see. I think I never look at my face when I try on stuff - I’m too busy checking to see if the cut and style disguise my bumps and lumps.
How can it possibly be only a week since I had my colour consultation with Melissa?? I am so swept up by the possibilities of my winter colour palette. And yet so frustrated by the lack of light we have in Scotland right now. I want to go through all my knits and all my stash with my fan in hand. I said before, and I’ll say again, I feel like a woman unleashed! And oh the thought of a retreat in Madison with the pair of you? Heaven. Truly.
Amy!! That would be truly amazing!! I can’t wait to see you going through all your knits… please send pictures or tag us! Hoping for more sun in your region soon. Unleashed women unite!! 🌈❤️☀️
I would absolutely come to a retreat about knitting and color! I really feel I have no idea what colors I should wear! I’m 67 and I feel as I age I need to know color to look my best as I age.
So much fun, and I would love, love, love to go on a retreat with you! Probably not realistic as I’m based in Denmark, but I love the idea and was pondering my own colour palette throughout the video. Thanks for the inspiration 🤍💙
This was fabulous! I’m only 3 hrs away…I’d totally do a knitting/colours retreat! We had that “Color me beautiful” book way back in the 80s and I used to pour over it as a teenager (think I’m a summer…??)
I would love to have my colors done, but I am in Pittsburgh. I had someone do my colors years ago when I was a teen. I remember she had a very hard time, but settled on Spring because of my green/ gold eyes, but I don’t know if that was right. I always get compliments when I wear navy…enjoyed this video very much!
I absolutely want to get come to your retreat! Before you even mentioned it, I was thinking to myself - “I wonder if I go to Madison and book a color analysis with Melissa - would they knit with me too??? 😂❤. Sign me up! We were in Madison last fall and it is a beautiful city that we enjoyed so much!
This was a great video to watch. I am pretty sure that I am very similar colouring to you although my hair is just turning grey now. I have always tended towards silver though. Can you tell me what those fabulous dark purple yarns were that you showed, you had them up to your face when you had your new coat on. Thank you
Retreat! Retreat! Retreat! So much beauty in this - inside and out, Count me in - let me know how I can contribute. This feels like a beautiful new beginning. ❤ Jackie Keala
I had color analysis done twice and got two opposite results from professionals. (one autumn and one winter). But that's ok, I like what I like and will wear what I want. I'll even wear colors I know "look bad" on me, because I want to and my goal isn't always to "look good" maybe that day I just want to wear a fun yellow shirt and I'm ok with it if it's "not my color".
Nice chat. Re poem.. without a home with beauty, there is no community. No basket, no kane, no village, no city etc. Nothing..just a field of flowers. I live in podunk (coastal NC) and the nearest color analysis option for me is 3 hours away. So looks like I must resort to subpar online option.
If I did not live on the other side of the world, I definitely would be very interested in going to a retreat, or having my colours done with Melissa.
Two very talented girls
I had never thought about this and now I’m obsessed. A retreat would be so great.
This was so interesting, helpful and fun - thank you!
I’d come to Madison; what a fun adventure that would be!
I am fascinated. There is such a difference in your face by the color of your garment- beautiful
A color-knitting retreat sounds fab.
Very informative. Those colours looked amazing on you. Can you please list the yarns you mentioned? Thank you

So good! I've struggled with colour for years, afraid that what I'm wearing isn't a good match for me. I'd love to find a similar service close to me
So much fun, and I would love, love, love to go on a retreat with you! Probably not realistic as I’m based in Denmark, but I love the idea and was pondering my own colour palette throughout the video. Thanks for the inspiration 🤍💙
We can dream certainly!
I got my colors done about 5 months ago, I too am a summer but was initially unhappy about it. However I’ve actually found more freedom in that.
This was fabulous! I’m only 3 hrs away…I’d totally do a knitting/colours retreat! We had that “Color me beautiful” book way back in the 80s and I used to pour over it as a teenager (think I’m a summer…??)
If you ladies would give a retreat I would fly over from the Netherlands because the pleasure and fun just glowed of my screen 🙏🏼🧶thank you!
That soho shawl is amazing!!!!
I would love to have my colors done, but I am in Pittsburgh. I had someone do my colors years ago when I was a teen. Melissa, please share the pattern and yarn used in that cardigan, it’s beautiful!
Wave of Change of if I had to guess.
Jackie is correct!! The Wave of Change in Blackberry Ridge Traditional Colors Bulky Weight from Wisconsin. 🥰 Happy Knitting!! 🩷🌈
The color retreat sounds incredible! 🥰

Looks like one is Julie Asselin Leizu DK (the darker smoked grape with 5 skeins) and The other is Brooklyn tweed Shelter (3 skeins)!
Yes, to a Roadshow for Color Analysis!
Retreat! Retreat! Retreat! So much beauty in this - inside and out, Count me in - let me know how I can contribute. This feels like a beautiful new beginning. ❤ Jackie Keala
What a fun and exciting episode! Please add me to the list for a Madison knitting and color retreat. That would be amazing! ❤
I had color analysis done twice and got two opposite results from professionals. (one autumn and one winter). But that's ok, I like what I like and will wear what I want. Thanks for sharing! Love the integration of poems as well! Thank you! BTW knitting a SoHo Square for my daughter as I watch!
Love the color retreat idea!!
Great chat. Super enjoyable.
I had my colours done when I was 30 with brown hair and was an Autumn.I’m now 65 with silver/white hair would my colours change?
I would be so there for a Madison color retreat!
Did this in the 80s. I need to find my colour samples.
Very intresting! I love colours and miss how to choose colours for a pattern you are drawn to maybe for the wrong colours but simply for they look so nice if you know what I mean? I would love to come but it’s kind of far from Sweden 😂
Definitely! I agree there are no wrong colors, but more impactful, intentional colors and color combos for sure! I love learning about and seeing how impactful colors are on our mood as well. We’d love to have you from Sweden!! 🥰❤
Yes!! 100% to a knitting/color retreat!!!
Could we have an update on Cadyjaks please. I’ve loved watching your podcast but feel like maybe it’s coming to an end? I certainly hope you are both well along with your families !
We posted an update on Instagram. @cadyjaxknits Thanks for reaching out! ❤️
I had my colours done many years ago and I'm a tawny Autumn. My colouring really does look amazing in the rich warm autumn colours. But it took me a while to accept it at first. I originally wore light summer colours (about as opposite as is possible). But it served a purpose for me in 2 ways. First, I have rosacea and since summer colours make me pale, they really did lighten the redness of the rosacea. Secondly, I realized that I thought I liked and felt more comfortable, or perhaps safer, being invisible, and looking pale (and almost ill,) certainly did make me unremarkable and essentially invisible. Once I accepted that I really was an autumn, and started wearing them, I realized that I actually liked being noticed and told how good I looked in my clothes. Also I had my rosacea lightened with laser therapy, and the rosacea didn't need my clothing colours to lighten it any more. Colours really do make a difference on people. Maybe the people who don't think its real should look at what makes them choose the colours they wear, like I did. Besides, now the colours in my closet all go together. Before I got my colours done, I had a closet full of clothing and nothing to wear because none of it really went together. I just bought what I thought was pretty without any thought of whether they went together or not.
thanks for sharing your story
I have now looked up House of Colour and I am intrigued at it's british beginnings. There are a few associates local to me and I have read their bios on the website. I would love to have my colours "done" but cannot afford it right now. It will I think be something that I save for as a gift to myself. I really have no idea what suits me and what does not. Someone once told me that red works on me but I do not know if that is true or not. I choose colours of clothes and yarn with little knowledge of why and I am always massively influenced by what I imagine others would say (mainly my sisters in fact, which is ridiculous). So, I end up not knowing.
I’m in for a knitting BnB color meet up!
Can we buy a summer fan?
You can! Once you find your local HOC consultant, they can sell you a fan. Excited for you!! 😊❤
I would totally do a retreat!
Interested. Let us know!
I had my colors done years ago, so I will take my color pallet book out and stop wearing black.
Wow
Please plan a retreat! I
Lilly
Repeated nothing New so boring 😕😜😳
