It was so cute because he was a big boy and he was so gentle and snuffling around as if to say, "Hey buddy!" That was over 40 years ago, and I still have that memory!
That's part of the beauty of biology, he knew you smelled differently and his biology told him to look after his family. I love him nudging your belly, "Hey, Sprout! Can't wait to see ya!" Congrats!!

Years ago my old nanny goat sniffed my face when the novocain wore off after having a broken molar removed. She rubbed her fuzzy nose on my arm and very quietly said, "Ma-ma!" (She picked that up by hearing my kids say it.) She knew I was hurting and did her best to comfort me. Brownie left us a long time ago, but I still miss her, a LOT!

Several years ago, I went to visit my daughter in Michigan for the weekend. At the end of my stay, I noticed their black lab had begun to get more protective of my daughter. They'd told me they were trying for a child already. When I started chuckling, they asked why. I said, "You're pregnant. Congratulations." Then I had to explain why their dog was acting so strange. Two weeks after I got home, she called me and said, "You were right. I thought our dog was just being picky, but you nailed it." I don't mention the dog's name because I totally forgot about it. *Sigh* Was a good story to tell.

Animals are lots more sensitive than we notice. I have a pitbull that wouldn't leave my pregnant daughter alone one day. Followed her every step. She went into labor that night. I had a cat years ago that wanted to sleep with me when I had the flu. My horses always knew when I wasn't in a good mood. Without me saying a word they just kept their distance
I realize that many animals are far more in tune to us than we are of ourselves. But how? Is it an odor they're picking up on? He's paying attention to her belly knowing where the fetus is inside her. What's up?

horses are so crazy intelligent. i'm really young and my knees started bothering me for some reason, i was sitting in his stall and he bent down to check out my knees for a minute like he was looking for something. i still don't know why my knees were bothering me, but it's crazy to me that he knew.

Congrats on the future new addition. Animals know a lot more than what some people give credit too. They can also figure out in people who is good and bad pretty much from a first meeting. They just have that sense. Unfortunately, many are abused and mistreated.
My dachshund instantly knows if someone is not to be trusted. He'll loudly try to herd them back out the door. He knows when I'm upset, too, sometimes before I do. He also tells me very plainly when it's time to put the project down and go to bed. We are blessed to live among such noble creatures.
