@@ennalouise804 He may have not been more heartless in TVD when he's introduced in the beginning we just see him from the Salvatore's/Elena perspective, we don't get any emotional bonding/connection to Elijah's actions or motives, we just see what it's like to be on the receiving end when Elijah is on a mission related to his family. If we had gotten for example flashbacks of Elijah happy with his family, and all that Klaus had said/done to his family, how we would look at Elijah's actions would be much different. But you do have a point even in TVD Elijah is presented differently once he gets his family back.
