When I was in 2nd grade I saw my teacher abuse my classmate repeatedly in the classroom. I never knew what he did wrong as I could not see that he did anything wrong. Though I didn't know about child abuse then, I did report it to my mom who was good friends with his grandma. The next year that kid did go to a different school and that teacher did not return. When I was in high school a teacher would be unpredictable and throw iron bars across students heads and it would hit the back wall. It appeared that no one acted up to trigger him. He would carry a student in their out of the room. I ended up quitting that class and I told my mom. That teacher did not come back the next year. Even young kids may not know what abuse is, most know what is right from wrong. It was a good thing I could tell my mom who did something about it. Abuse is so wrong.

Ok, this is gonna be a long text but it's the reason I have existential crisis. First there are many physical paradoxes. At the Big Bang (beginning of the universe), energy of our universe formed from nothing, which violates law of energy conseevation. And this paradox aside, the laws of physics say that the Big Bang should have produced the same amount of matter and anti-matter. But where's the anti-matter? If the anti-matter anhilated away, this would only be possible if also matter annhilated with it, producing energy. But since the matter and anti-matter quantities must have been the same, then this would mean that by the annhilation, no matter should also be left! If no matter is left, we should not be existing!
Now to the philosophical paradoxes: Many of these physical paradoxes seem to suggest that maybe there was no beginning when matter was created, but the universe existed infinitely. If that's the case, there must have been infinite versions of every living- being who has ever existed. Plus if the universe is infinite, then there must exist infinite versions of people. So there are infinite living beings. What's the probability that YOU will be born in this body of yours out of all the infinite bodies? You guessed it, it's 1 in infinity! But 1 in infinity, mathematically, equals 0%! But if there's 0% chance, doesn't that mean we should not be existing now?
Thirdly, the existence of consciousness is mysterious and paradoxical. Science suggests that everything can be reduced down to simple particles and physical interactions. Even human beings. This would mean human beings are no different to robots. But if that's the case, how is it possible that human beings are conscious, if there's no scientific explanation for its existence? You could have an exact identical version of yourself who behaves exactly like you, but is just a complex robot machine and lacks actual subjective awsreness. This is known as the 'Hard Problem of Consciousness'.
Fourthly, imagine somebody takes one atom away from you one at a time. When one atom is taken away, are you still the same person? Yes. 2 atoms taken away. Are you still the same person? Yes! Do that a gazillion times. But then all your atoms will be taken away and you'll be gone. So at what point exactly will your identity be gone if taking away an atom does nothing to your identity? Vsauce made a video on this where he considered an explanation to be that you don't really exist, you never existed so the question of when you stop existing is solved: never. Except that he does that with chairs. But chairs don't really have an identity so it's not a big deal there. But we humans? Yes, we do Thanks to our consciousness! So the existence of our identity is causing nothing but paradoxes! This paradox is known as 'Sorites Sequence' or a specialised, more popular variant of it being 'Ship of Theseus paradox'.
Fifthly, imagine you use a teleporter that scans you, destroys your atoms and re-assembles them in your destination place. Is that version of you there really you or did you die in the teleoortation process and a new person identical to you, like a twin of yours, is created? If there was no concept of consciousness and identity, there would be no unsolvable inexplainable paradox here: You just have an object that got destroyed and re- created, nothing more and nothing less.
And also the non-existence of free will, caused by deterninism raises ethical questions about moral responsibility.
Here, we can see just how many paradoxes really want the existence of consciousness to vanish! But if it weren't for our comsciousness, we wouldn't exist!

I had a high school pre calculus teacher who ridiculed me in front of class the last day of senior year, when he asked us where we were going to college and what major we would study. When I said the state university for mechanical engineering, he said I was too stupid to make it through engineering school. Needless to say I was humiliated and upset. Upon hearing about it, my Dad told me to prove him wrong. Not only did I earn a BS in mechanical engineering but I also earned my state licence as a Professional Engineer and had a successful 45 year career in the steel industry. Striving to prove him wrong gave me the determination to more than succeed. Never let anyone take your dream from you.

The following year I stopped in his Senior AP Calculus class composed of students who were in my Pre-Calculus class while they were Juniors the previous year. He asked how I was doing in Calculus in college. When I said I aced my first semester he then turned to the class with his chest out in obvious pride, saying, "See, my students do well in college?" I then responded, "Yes, once we have an instructor who can actually teach instead of just parroting the textbook!" I then turned and walked out, hearing my former classsmates laugh heartily. I should note that I only earned a C in his class, as he belittled students who dared to ask questions and just said read your textbook. That grade almost cost me my college admissions, but at my Dad's behest the Principal wrote to the colleges I applied to, asking them to ignore the low grade in his course, as there was a problem with the instructor. My previous math grades were all much better. Unfortunately the school couldn't fire him because he had tenure. Proving him wrong was actually the best revenge, and eventually God gave me the grace to forgive him.

TRUE. 1000% TRUE. I've tried growing food and it was a big failure. There is talent, knowledge, skill and patience REQUIRED to farm.
Lets see a contest between the bullies and the dairy farmer - the loser has to not eat for 7 days....maybe then they would appreciate all those hard-working contributors to our food supply. We had a big loss of farmers = bought out by the big food industry and paid to NOT farm on their land so the prices could be controlled. Farmers gladly sold their farms - and look where we are today, mass produced genetic food (which is killing us) and people that don't know how to farm because, in large part, those with the skill to grow (without all the chemicals, etc) died with that generation.
So, KEEP ON FARMING. We NEED local farmers and we need MORE of THEM.

👍 In response to your comment on farming and farmers. 👍 Both of my parents grew up on mixed dairy and grain farms. As a kid we had a half acre of garden that my siblings and I absolutely hated weeding but never once complained about the produce we ate from it. We didn't know how to lose ourselves in our heads while weeding, watering, and tending the garden. Both of my parents family farms were eventually swallowed whole by the cities that seemed so far away that the eventuality seemed impossible to occur. Farming has to be one of the most important, honorable, and absolutely necessary occupations to have. If it wasn't for our hardworking, descent, upstanding, underpaid, and overworked farmers, none of us city dwellers would be here to pick on or make fun of them. God bless our farmers and may they be richly rewarded for their contributions to our society.

This was excellent!!!! As a senior in high school, I had a female teacher who made us write a report about what we wanted to do after high school. I knew how tough this was going to be because she always treated the farm kids like we were idiots, unless of course we were star athletes. I had wanted to farm with my dad for as long as I could remember, so I set about the task of doing my assignment. The report was only suppose to be minimum of 2 pages. When I finished, mine was 6. I explained all the different skills farmers need to have just to do their job, from agronomy to mechanics to heavy equipment operator to veterinarian to accountant and land management and everything in between. I even interviewed my dad with questions about his experience being a farmer. I handed in my report and when she was done grading them, she called us up to her desk one by one to get our paper back. She told me my paper was well written. As I was returning to my desk, she said, "Why anyone would want to farm is beyond me but apparently some people just want to waste their life". Well, I farmed with my dad until his death and a few years beyond. Then my mother gave half the operation to my brother who never farmed a day in his life. The kicker of all of this is.......I am a female....the most hurtful bullies in my life have been the same ones that preach about how hard it is to be a woman and supporting other women and their dreams. I hope everyone gets a chance to prove a bully wrong. I really love the ending where the kid reminded the teacher that it really didn't have to be the way it was, that the teacher chose to be unkind. Because it really is just that simple...

When the HR person talked to me, she asked if I was afraid of the other woman, and I told her no. I had my schooling in England in the 1960s and 1970s. I had a very good experience with teachers. One teacher at a boarding school had a "pet" who was a bully. The best teachers transmitted a contagious enthusiasm for their subject. One of those taught geography. It fired the curiosity to travel and work around the World. Another transmitted a love for mathematics. I read Chemical Engineering. Some "teachers" were poor. I had a chemistry teacher who took our homework off us but didn't give it back. I squared up to him saying "no more written homework for you until you give me back what I have already given you!" Bullying by anyone, whether it be a student, teacher, or parent, is horrible, but when it is done by a teacher of first grade little children, I mean every child in her class (except the one whose mother was her teaching colleague working across the hall) it was absolute torture. I experienced this from my first grade teacher. She was a real witch to everyone except her “teacher’s pet”. She even tortured one girl until the girl lost control over her bodily functions and peed on the floor. One boy lost his temper with the teacher and cussed her out. A first grader! It went on for weeks against me until my dad found out about it, had a conversation with the teacher, warning her it better stop, or else he would go to the school board. This experience scarred me for years. I’m sure it also did many of the other first graders in my class, except the teacher’s pet. Fortunately, all of my teachers thereafter were very kind, instilling in me a lifelong love for learning. If you are a parent of little children, be sure their teachers have the right temperament for teaching little children. Your child’s love for education could be at stake.

I never had to work on a farm but this brings back so many memories to me as far as being bullied by the people that they chose to teach in the schools I went to in the 60s and 70s. I's verbally and physically assaulted by teachers cause they loved paddling students and it was a daily thing for me after I left grade school...In those days 1st to 6th grade was called grade school and Jr High was 7th and 8th. Those 2 years was the worst years of my life where school was considered. High school I didn't have that problem with teachers...I could go on a say a few things about High School but I didn't finish school. I got my GED and I went on to be a certified mechanic and certifications in food service department....

That's the era I went to school also. I had a teacher who wasn't only a bully and would verbally abuse the students, she had this rule that if you missed over 2 words on a spelling test you got up to 5 licks with the paddle. We had 3 grades in one room, and she'd make everyone line up who was to get licks. She'd lean you over her desk and wheeled back her arm as far as she could and give it to you. It was a thick 1" paddle with holes in it. Have you ever went to a dog pound and they have dogs in back who have this green gleam in their eyes as they try and get to you cause they want to bite you? Well this teacher had that gleam! She loves hitting us. I did get back at her though. She loved sweets and everyday I'd give her some kind of hostess cake or candy bar, she must have gained a hundred pounds by the time I got out of that room into 7th grade. HA HA!!!

My cousin even got suspended from school because she was throwing chairs ( which I'm assuming was at the kids who picked on her). I was bullied ruthlessly in school by kids and teacher's alike. One day in 5th grade I was alone, of course, in library picking a book out. All the popular kid's were huddled on the other side laughing, giggling and pointing at me, as usual. A kid named Jimmy walked over to me from the group and said "so, what are you doing?" Choosing a book, I replied. Before I knew what hit me a look I will never forget came over his face, like a demon. He started stabbing me mercilessly with his newly sharpened pencil. Over and over as I screamed in pain an humility. Even the group stood stunned and horrified. The librarian broke it up like it was no big deal and sent me to class. Bleeding, in pain and shocked. Nothing came of it. My mom or stepdad wouldn't care anyway. Another time I had gone to my ceramic's class to finish a project for my mom's b-day. There sat the 2 most popular girls and most evil sitting on either side of the ceramic teacher. Giggling and whispering in the strangest sort of way. Sexual and evil all at once. 6th grade, 1970 mind you. I went to get my project and of course it was nowhere to be found. It was a pain I feel still. I was ridiculed by the history teacher, told I was worthless by an art teacher and called an idiot by the camp counselor. At the end when we were going to move to NM from Iowa (meanest people ever!) I was invited by the girl who would call me every night yelling and screaming obscenities at me for what reason I'll never know. I couldn't imagine why a party for me but for some reason I went. They bought me gifts and all apologized for the way they were, except the 2 evil ones. They weren't there. By the time I hit New Mexico the mouse had died, I'd had enough and I was one to be reckoned with by both kids and teachers. I started drinking and drugging the pain away and by age 15 was a hostess in a bar. Loooong story, all of it. Trying to write a book. Bottom line...there have always been and will always be bully's. Always. Don't let them destroy you. The sad thing is now you can't duke it out honorably, shake hands and get over it. You have gangs, mental illness and fools with access to guns. Which are not the problem. People are. Since Viet Nam everything has generationally deteriorated. The only hope is Faith, not religion in God and who has that anymore? Odd fact, one time at the dinner table of all places my stepdad looked at me not unlike Jimmy did that day and said "Sylvia, there's just something about you that pisses people off!". Through gritted teeth and with a snarl and hiss. My mom looked at him in horror and as usual said nothing. Funny thing is it's the truest thing anyone has ever said to me. Wish I knew what it was, I'd cut it off...

Administrators have to know who the bullies are and do something about it. That’s the best way to stop the school shootings that we see constantly on television.
