    What’s the movie Crimson Peak about?
    In the 19th century, Edith Cushing (Mia Wasikowska of That Evening Sun and Alice in Wonderland), an intrepid young American novelist haunted by the ghost of her late mother, lives with her father, a high-society industrialist from New York State. She falls under the spell of Sir Thomas Sharpe (Tom Hiddleston of Unrelated and Thor), a handsome stranger who has just arrived from England with his sister Lucille (Jessica Chastain of Interstellar and A Most Violent Year). He is looking for funding to build his machine to extract clay from the ground. After the tragic death of her father, Edith marries Thomas and follows him and Lucille, protector of her family's dark secrets, to their huge gothic manor in the heart of the English countryside. But in this dark mansion, Edith is soon plagued by horrific and ghostly visions. Able to communicate with the dead, Edith tries to decipher the mystery behind the ghostly visions that haunt her new home. As she gets closer to the truth, Edith may learn that real monsters are made of flesh and blood.

    This is a true Gothic story. In Gothic tales the supernatural is there but not the main feature, because the true horror in these stories is the people. I also like the colors in this movie, like how red represents trapped ghosts, white ghosts are the ones who leave the house, and black for those who choose to stay.

    That last look of Thomas looking at Lucile even as she murdered him; there was not a trace of hate or anger in him, just love, sadness and regret for her, he was leaving behind. As if he was more concerned about Lucile's welfare than his death.
    This is the epitome of true love. In fact this is the first time, I have ever seen true love in picture. *Crimson peak* is second only to *Nightmare Alley* . Exceptional movie.

      @kathleenbrashier2579 10 месяцев назад +14

      Not sure if you were looking for a serious answer here, but if you were, let's look at what we know about the Sharpes. Mom and Dad Sharpe were not great parents. I think we can safely say that they were abusive (locking Lucille and Thomas in the attic all day every day) and inattentive (Dad Sharpe was gone all the time, spending all of the family's money). So we have two attention and love starved children together in an attic, with no one teaching them anything about anything. Their Love Map (e.g. a child's understanding of love and connectedness to other humans) would be completely f*cked up. So, with only each other around to figure out friend-love, parent/caregiver-love, sexual-love, and any other kind of love, they cobbled together the disaster of a relationship you see in the movie. To Thomas, his love for his sister is no less valid than his love for his wife. He loves them both. If you're subsumed within an unhealthy relationship for long enough, it becomes your normal.

      Bcoz he loves edith nd wants to be together with her, but he cant leave his sister, the only source of love, care nd comfort he had all his life, everything he knew and felt till now was through her. Although he desperately wanted to leave this trapped life, he couldnt leave coz he loved Lucille nd never had anything else to hold onto that was strong enough to make him break his own shackles, he only found that strong purpose after truly falling in love with edith nd made an actual attempt to get outta this toxic cycle. He wanted to convince his sister nd save her coz he can never abandon her no matter how much he wished to leave. Only problem was that Lucille was too far gone to be saved, so tbh the only way for Thomas to be free was either through abandoning her completely or through his own death. Unfortunately he could never do the former, but Lucille was capable of doing the later.

      I agree. I put off watching this movie for years. It is more than just a Gothic ghost story. It is heartbreaking and sad and I felt the pain and anguish of all the characters. They all went through some serious traumas. 😢 Thomas didn't know what a healthy love was like until he met Edith, even though it was at first under nepharious intentions through Lucille basically brainwashing him.

      That's sort of a hallmark of Guillermo del Toro (the director). Ofter the villains in his movies end up being stabbed or shot right under one eye, making them partially blind. I think this is meant to symbolize the incapability of these characters to really see and accept the truth. In this movie Thomas has been manipolated by his sister all his life and has always looked at the world through some distorted lenses.

      From what I understand in a symbolic context, our face is our identity and existence. Destroying the face is a way of erasing a person’s existence. Lucille was angry over the fact Thomas loved Edith that she wanted to destroy him. Yet at the same time she regrets her actions because she loved him in her own toxic way.
