    Great review!! I had a Combat Troodon for a whole 2 days. The action was so stiff I could only open and close it a couple times before my hand wore out. Unacceptable to me, and not the first time I've heard of that issue. I think my next OTF will be a Guardian Tactical.

    I had a Tac- R which uses the same pocket clip and is about 5.5 oz and just as thick. That pocket clip is one of the best i've used. It works really well, and i'd say it's comparable to spyderco's wire clip, only maybe a thicker piece of wire.

    Odd thing is, the dealer cost on these is maybe $5 or $6 less than the micro tech, but the MSRP is $100 less🧐. Not sure why they think we’d fork out just as much to put them on the shelf, have a much harder sale, and have a far smaller margin rather than just stock the MT’s and watch them walk out the door with ease. It is a nice looking knife, and sounds like it’s top quality, but man…they need to drop the dealer price and msrp if they want us to push these into the market.

      SOG in the late 90s used to be AMAZING for its time. I have a BG-42 blade from that era of SOG and it will hold its own against many options today. Then they became a Walmart knife in the early 2000s and quality went to crap. Seems like they're getting their mojo back.

      @studdaman420 3 года назад +1

      @@actor4nyc I have a few of each of those as well. Personally I prefer them more too. That said, this knife is still pretty cool in it's own right. It is a lot more complex, many more parts to it too. It is pretty tough though, and is still working great. For $350, the way it locks up alone is worth the price. Only other knife currently in production that achieves that goal is the G&G Hawk Deadlock, that sells for $1600 if you can find one. So I gotta give SOG a pat on the back for keeping it at a realistic price point. I do love this knife too. Even though it doesn't make it into my pocket as often as my Combat Troodon or my current favorite, the GT Recon Elite. Pretty much always have one of those on me at all times, if not both. I do try and rotate in some of my other knives as well, because I don't like knives that just sit around and collect dust. I have a bunch of knives, and all of them get carried, or I sell them to someone that can carry it more than me, if I notice that It doesn't make it into my pocket anymore. Lol. Pretty much the only ones so far that I have let go are my otf Benchmade's. Gave my dad the mini infidel for farhers day, and sold my Autocrat, for a nice profit to someone that carries it all the time now.

      My newest loves are my Guardian Tactical 035 and 040. Definitely waiting on a G&G Model C drop. I’ll be honest, I’m a “dresser queen.” Meaning, mine do sit on a dresser. I can’t carry any blade that’s more than two inches here in La, La, Land L.A. Still, I love collecting and learning. I’m also guilty of the more it is, the better it is. Probably not smart. However, for $450, and hearing a few complaints about the SOG I’m going to pass.

      @@actor4nyc The sog is $350. But I hear ya. Mine wasn't the sharpest out of the box, but my ken onion work sharp fixed that right up. Other than that mine has been great. I have heard that some people have had issues too. Maybe I got one made on a good day... I wish the Recon 040 would come in a different blade style other than drop point. That is why I went with the Recon Elite. Really want a D/E 040. GT is doing some great things. Does have a lot more open blade play, but has never failed to deploy or retract. It is my #1 currently.

      @@studdaman420 absolutely regarding the 040. I got the the two tone partially serrated. Definitely wanted the all black. Hard to come by but will still probably get it when available. It's going to take a lot for knife buyers to get over 20 years of SOG making and selling really overpriced cheaply made Chinese knives with terrible fit&finish/quality control!!! SOG had the ARC lock which was a copy of Benchmade's axis lock, it actually worked quite well(SOG Pentagon elite). But then SOG starting using a one-sided ARC lock that was cheaper to make but by its design, it had terrible unfixable blade play!!! SOG had Gunnery Sergeant/Actor R. Lee Ermey(Full Metal Jacket) as their brand ambassador. So when people at Walmart saw R. Lee Ermey promoting SOG they thought that they were getting a quality-made knife, but in reality they were really overpaying for a low-quality knife made with lower quality blade steels. News flash, any real knife buyer/collector doesn't buy SOG knives!!! Only uneducated/ignorant people who know nothing about knives buy SOG(Walmarts finest)!!!! That's because for the last 20 years your knives seriously lacked quality control and fit/finish!!! Prime example, your knives that had your one-sided "Arc" locking mechanism by design had annoying/unfixable blade play!!!! Question for you SOG, your Volcun knife had a two-sided "Arc" locking Mechanism which was very similar to the Benchmade Axis lock and it worked great with absolutely no blade play. But for some unknown reason, you guys at SOG decided to go from a great two-sided "Arc" locking mechanism to a one-sided "Arc" locking mechanism that by design was flawed and had annoying/unfixable blade play!!! Why, did you do that? I know why you did that, it was because it was a lot cheaper and faster to have a one-sided "Arc" locking knife manufactured instead of a two-sided "Arc" locking knife!!!! Then you started selling a ton of these flawed one-sided "Arc" lock knives at Walmart with Gunnery Sargent R.Lee Ermey's image on display everywhere. People thought to themselves if Gunnery Sargent R.Lee Ermey is endorsing SOG their knives have to be good!!!
