Yes!!! I've been waiting for a synth like this. The Oberheim sound + DSI / Sequential style engine = lots of freedom in sound design. The sonic flexibility is going to be huge. Thanks!
Technically the OB-6 also fits your equation. But the mod matrix on the TEO-5 seems much more interesting, at first glance.
And I like that is has THE sound, but is quite compact.
The Teo looks like a lot of fun Jexus. I'm excited for it.. also for your demo video whenever you do!
I was thinking the same thing about the OB6, but I think I may like the mod matrix and effects on the TEO5 better! definitely would love to see some TEO5 VS OB6 videos@@yongamusic
@@saintttbeatsYes, I think this is going to eat into OB6 sales a lot. Even OBX8 sales, because the variable state filter is in the menus of that and it's right on the front panel here and this is a lot cheaper.
You could buy 2 of these and have the same or different patches selected, giving you 10 voices and 7 octaves to play, for not much more than an OB6 and a lot less than an OBX8. Then could gig with one of them and it's not much bigger than an OB6 desktop version.
Jack’s back!
Blimey, I only knew Anderton’s covered guitars and basses. Keyboards and synthesizers is a new one on me.
It’s Saturday, May 18, 2024. I just learned about the TEO-5 here in my New York City perch about 48 hours ago. It’s a definite game changer, that’s for sure. I had gone from desiring a Sequential (Circuits) Take Five to craving a Behringer UB-Xa - to now wanting this. And, I can’t even afford *one,* let alone all three.
This looks like a real winner for anyone not needing a large keyboard, as a top synth for solos or chords with THAT sound. Really eats into the OB-6 territory, I feel.
I'm just sensing for the first time the possibility that the OB-6 and Prophet-6 might be squeezed out of production by the two smaller and the two bigger synths.
I’d love to see them expand this platform. I think it sounds more rich than the OB6, more in line with the OBX8. With the modern features, it would be a logical evolution of Tom’s work if more voices and keys/modules were added.
I've had Prophet-6 and OB-6 for about 5 years as a lovely combo but this TEO-5 on top of a Prophet-10 would probably be even better.
wich diferences has the Ob-6 with this Ob-teo 5 ?..apart of the 5 voices.I want for techno dub style .
That outro sound is absolutely beautiful!
Good to see you back Jack! Very nice demo Chris 🙏🏻
Nicely done, Oberheim! My Take-5 suddenly wants a new playmate! 😄
They probably complement each other the same way the OB6 and the Prophet 6 do.
Too much overlap imo.
Good to see you back Jack, missed you ,, was worried🎼
awesome machine! awesome review! thanks! x x x
interesting to see the same form factor of the sequential Take 5.
Like the intro. This synth sounds very nice.
Welcome back, Jack!
Great to see you Jack
So many synths...good times.
Great stuff !
Sounds lush ❤
Looks like a great top board for gigging honestly. I personally prefer this to a Take-5.
Nice, I have a OB-6 Module, but this is interesting as an extra to create completely new Oberheim sounds. I also have the Take 5, so I can see the possibility's in sounds design. Love patch used with the sequencer and the outro.
I have Take 5 and was dreaming of OB 6. In your opinion, is this TEO closer to Take or OB6 (sound)? Does it make sense to Take it for those who have the Take?
@@maxatomico8784 its in between, but more to the ob6
@@brianlespoir6287 perhaps it makes more sense to buy the Behringer desktop UBxa to accompany the Take
@@maxatomico8784TEO5 has the sem filter design from the X8. the ob6s sem is different and alot less good imo.
@@brianlespoir6287 wich diferences has this Teo5 with the Ob-6? thanks
0:54 that was lovely mate.
All I want is this TEO 5 and the Korg MS 20 FS! Thats it!
I have Take 5 and was dreaming of OB 6. In your opinion, is this TEO closer to Take or OB6 (sound)? Does it make sense to Take it for those who have the Take?
Sounds much more like OB6 to e because the filter is about the same. Might be identical, not sure. Low pass to notch to high pass. Or band pass sound. It's an original SEM type filter.
Probably would make sense with the Take 5 + TEO5, as a cheaper pairing than the Prophet-6 and OB-6, that sound great together in my view.
I think itnis closer to the OBX8
@@davebellamy4867the TEO5 has the sem filter from the X8 originally from the OBX. The OB6 sem is different. they have different q response and headroom.
Jack , let's talk straight : Take 5 or TEo 5 ....if ya had to keep one : to do actually music / produce .... ?
Exellent as usual !!!!
By the way blue lines are not for style , like old ampeg amps , it was to give a sort of graduation infos on knobs .... it is super handy once you get the concept !!
seems like a nice cross between an OB6 and a Pro3
Nice vid chaps.
NO mention of FATAR keybed?
Directly from the website - The premium 3.5 octave FATAR velocity- and touch-sensitive keyboard allows unparalleled expression and responsiveness
Oberheim just opened the barrier to entry in a compelling way.
This sounds a lot better than I thought it would actually. I didn't really take to the Take5.
5 voices are really a bummer. But the compact form factor, the variable state filter, the Rev2-style mod matrix and the low price. Damn! I already got an OBX8 and always wanted to complement it with the variable state OB6. I guess it will become a TEO5 now. 😁
Niiiice ... Perfect poly for me.
It's a less featured minifreak .
@@maydaygoingdown5602 lol ... Edit... Sorry rude of me. Microfreak is actually a great synth.
@jam6000 if you look at its spec it's the same filters as this, only the minifreak has more features.
I don't own one myself but it sounds the same.
@@maydaygoingdown5602 Analog oscillators with thru-zero FM and analog VCAs. Also just cause they look similar on paper doesn't mean the sound quality is the same. Although adding a digital multi engine oscillator seems like a no brainier. Minifreak and Minilogue XD do this and those sell very well
@reecedeyoung6595 Yeah that's kinda what I mean, like I said I don't have one myself but why would you choose this over the minifreak? It has the Cem filter amongst the others it has, sounds the same, has much better sequencer etc, for what? £500 quid?
How different is this from the Sequential Take 5?
It's a sem filter and super oscillator architecture opposed to the prophet 5 filter and state variable oscillators
This in module format plsss!!
I might just need to sell off some synths!
How in 2024 do you only get 256 user banks...lovely synth but I mean what is going on with memory on synths being so small still?
1000 Patches on the Peak/Summit and Deepmind 12 put it to shame.
256 user banks is pretty enough
@@user-vu6du5nx9q I think you’d be able to manage your sounds much better with the limited banks you’ll also be more likely to familiarize yourself more with the actual stored sounds.
Lag?
Gorgeous
Nice! I can see this has the same build as my Take 5… why does it cost more?
I think the build is not the only relevant thing, but the components inside, functions, and sonic result. For example this has SEM filters while Take 5 doesn’t. I think Take 5 sounds great, but this sounds better to me (personal preference although I would get both).
@@Donetur thanks for the kind reply and info man, ah fair play! This does sound amaizng yeh!
@@LukeLine you are welcome mate :)

TEO or Take 5? OMG. So decadent.
TEO = That Epic Oberheim
So it's a mini obx8 🤔
Such a great synth. A bit of a shame this demo was more describing work flow than showing us what it really sounds like. Love you anyway Anderton’s!
Interesting this is not a Sequential synth. I suppose Oberheim licensed the form factor with Sequential
"Oberheim and Sequential now work together in partnership, both operations and production. This is in part thanks to both companies having been acquired by parent company Focusrite over the last two years, as well as thanks to the friendly relationship maintained between Smith and Oberheim over the course of their lives."
This or the take 5???
Shrinkflation 44 keys 🤣
It's kinda odd you'd see a Oberheim with 5 voices. That should be a sequential. OBs always had even voice numbers.
Prefer the UBXA 16 voices and poly aftertouch plus 61 keys
Why would u compare it to the original oberheim esp when it's affordable now
He's comparing to Behringer, which sucks
@@dannymolns3573It does not suck....but the filters here sound so much better
Someone's graphic designer left the baseline grid on 🤣
Why does this synth remind me of the Take 5 so much? TEO-5/Take-5, layout and function of controls, price point. I'm not an expert by far though...
Built on the same platform, design (oscs, filters and x-mod) is by Oberheim but built by Sequential.
My only concern about this is the limited number of keys.
I would love it to play Van Halen songs, but I feel like I would need more keys.
It has a split function so you can assign the lower keys to lower octaves.
People have midi master keyboards for a reason. I would just hook it up to my ex5
The fx are digital homie
Great board..."reasonably" priced based on the features..tiny screen.

this thing does not sound like shit
no sound examples only bla bla
I always look forward to your synth demos, but this one fell a bit flat. Chris does a good job of covering the specs and features of the synth, but the sounds he chose to demonstrate were pretty awful. Basically the TEO-5 sounds like a detuned fart machine with a bit of static sparkle sprinkled on for good measure. For the $$$$, the product rep should be making this instrument sing.
I love detuned farts.
