I have a first-year edition Sportsman 48 that dates to Oct. 1948. This one has the reversible ring for light or heavy loads. 2-3 years later Remington redesigned it to eliminate the ring. I love old guns like this that still shoot well.

One of my favorite shotguns. I've been using this shotgun every year since 1978 for most of my bird hunting. 12ga 28" modified choke. Never once malfunctioned with literally hundreds of pheasants, dove taken with it.

I heard from some sources that this shotgun did see military action in Korea with a few US soldiers who brought them over for indivdual use and if so would be a surprise that a weapon designed for your average hunter winds up on the battlefield.

I've got one given to me by an uncle since I was 14 I'm 39 now still have it. It's got a swell near the tip of the the barrel but shoots a great pattern. Killed my first deer with it a little bit over 50 yards with one round of buckshot. Drops 'em DEAD... this gun has never failed me unlike some other brands lol

My dad had the 16 ga.and killed many rabbits with it. We also have the.410 that I used. Now I have them both and hope to pass them on to a grandson if they show interest.

If that's the case then your grand pops shotgun was made in the 1950s which is also around this time when the 870's started being sold.

Me too. I shot some greenheads with it last season running bismuth loads through it, since it’s a full barrel. It’s a sweet shooting gun. Gonna retire it this year and shoot a Belgium A5 16ga.
