Nature of monopolisation in capitalism dictates those rules. Especially when it's mom's and pap's business. No matter of the size. MJ come to someone's playground and demand new rules to be applied at his will. While previously agreed on playing by the rules. So you were interested in playing the game. No one forcing you to participate. And it's most important thing. You came to my house, you follow my rules. If you disagree, no one forcing you to be here. I could do absolutely anything in my house. Anything I like. You can't make me to act like you want me to act. Because first and for most, no one forcing you to be here. Business side of NASCAR is to make money. Therefore, concessions are made so fans were involved in watching the racing. In same shape NASCAR could do anything it like. Even if some fans would be disappointed. The goal is to make money. Whether you like it or not, no one forcing you to watch/be involved with the sport.
But if changes make NASCAR money, changes would be made. I don't understand this lawsuit. I don't understand fans frustrations. One guy said: I watched NASCAR in 70's and I want it never changed. Looks like common theme among NASCAR fans. However, dinosaurs will die off. And new generation will replace them. You can't stand still if you want to stay alive in capitalism. Those who don't understand it, will be left behind. Pretty simple. Adopt or die off. NASCAR is adopting.
