Some (of THIS type) were made only a few (5-10) years ago. They are very common, there are zillions of them, there is no rarity. There ARE, however, numbers of much older JM bars (because they have been at it for decades) that command a premium. JM had a Salt Lake City refinery, a Canada refinery, there were Matthey (no Johnson) bars which are rare. There are Johnson Matthey Mallory bars which are old and rare. Given a choice between JM and almost any other brand, I would choose the JMs. Even if say Royal Canadian bars are four nines and the JMs are three 9's, the JM might be $10 more. Not $10 per ounce, $10 more for the whole bar. And I'd have absolutely zero problem with Royal Cana bars. JM recently sold part of their operations to Asahi refining, you can buy brand-new bars that look just like those JM poured bars in Asahi. Back in 2000-2003, when silver was $4-8, there were many fewer refiners because none of them could make money with silver so cheap. Wish we could go back!
I need to start limiting my husband's exposure to these silver bar videos, he's starting to show some interest, but we agreed that we would only by rhodium in bar form since there are no minted coins of it.
