The first battle of Megiddo, in which Thutmose III defeated the rebellious Canaanite rulers in 1457 BC, is considered by most scholars as the first reliably documented battle in world history. We have multiple Egyptian texts explaining various details of the battle including army sizes, formations, movements, body counts, etc. All sources relate back to one man, the Egyptian military scribe Tjaneni, who accompanied Thutmose's army on the campaign, and who wrote a daily journal of the events.

The reason why Megiddo is written as the location for Armageddon -- the battle of all battles at the end of the world -- is because it was the site of the largest battle that the writers of The Bible would have known about within their lifetimes: The Battle of Megiddo in 609 BC. In that battle, Pharaoh Necho II of Egypt marched a great army through the Levant but were refused passage by Judean king Josiah. They fought at Megiddo, with Josiah perishing and Egypt annexing Judah. One interesting consequence of this battle it that it delayed the Egyptians from uniting with their allies the Assyrians, who without Egyptian aid fell to the Babylonians and Medes, effectively ending the Assyrian Empire. The Babylonians would soon afterward mop up the remains of the Egyptian army at Carchemish in 605 BC, and in the ensuing decades seize Judah and the Levant, crush a rebellion, destroy Jerusalem, and cart the enslaved peoples back to Babylon, thus ending any hope for an independent Hebrew state for the next 2500 years.
@mormacfey Yes, there have been a lot of battles there before. But none of them were within the living memory (and possible eyewitnesses) of the writers of the Bible. They had a very self-focused and extremely localized perspective from which to tell their history and make their proclamations. So nearly everything in the Old Testament was written from the point of view of the people living in the Levant at the time (~6th century BC), with their shared experiences, limited knowledge base, and narrow understanding of what's going on in the world.
2,500 years? Have you never heard of Hanukkah, bro? The Maccabees had a state, from ~170 bc until the Romans rolled in around ~40 bc. So 3-4 generations depending on how long you consider a generation. And after the Romans rolled in it took over 130 years to get Judea under control with their genocides and mass deportation. The rebellions clearly wouldn’t have happened if they had no hope of establishing an independent state…
@mormacfey he was trying to argue semantics, but no historian agrees with him. They obviously were still a part of the world around them and had Hellenic influences, but they weren’t paying tributes, they were worshipping their native monotheistic God with idolatry and graven images non existent during this period.
A while back I watched a vid that talked about a lost kingdom/empire that is referred to in a letter, possibly the Armana letters, where the pharaoh was corresponding with several "Great Kings". Does anyone know where I might find information on this?
Hello, Cy! May I suggest a topic? I would love to learn more about the people of Urartu and the Hurrians. You did enjoyable videos on those years ago, yet I think there is a lot more to explore! My interest was sparked by recent vacation in Armenia, a country which is very cognisant of its very ancient past.
Do you think you'll make a video covering the history of the south Semetic speaking peoples in the future? I would love to see what you're able to find regarding their migations into southern Arabia, and gain a better understanding of the cultural and political dynamics within the Sabean & Himyrarite kingdoms. Thank you!
Josiah was the "saint" king of judea, for his demise there, tales said one day the king of the jews/messiah will be risen from meggido in apocalyptic battle, Christians took on with these tales and hence came the idea of battle in har meggido, or Armageddon, the reason almost every person in western civilization heard of this place.
I think that is just part of it. Megiddo is in the basically only way for a long bit that you march an army north or south so the site has seen countless battles, even as late as WW1. It is the site that have seen most battles in an otherwise war torn region so it is an obvious choice for a future battle. I recommend the book "Digging up Armageddon" by Eric H Cline, it is an interesting book about the Chicago expedition in the 20s and 30s, what they find and their soap opera like stay in the area. He himself have dug a lot at the site and he speaks a lot about the history and what is in each layer too. Most famous building there probably "The stables of Solomon" which actually was built a couple of hundred years later then when they are supposed to been built, the Chicago expedition knew this already when they dug them up but their initial message to their patrons said Solomon built them so they just went for it to not look stupid. :)
"In the waning months of the Clone Wars, the 501st faced missions critical to the agenda of Chancellor Palpatine. When we arrived at the bombed out ruins of Mygeeto, our Jedi commander believed we had been sent to take out a droid energy collector. What Ki-Adi-Mundi didn't know however was that our unit of the 501st was really after an experimental Mygeetan power source, that the Chancellor wanted for his superlaser. Keeping Mundi in the dark wasn't easy; the Jedi had become increasingly wary of the Chancellor's doings, and was on the lookout for the slightest hint of treachery. Just like the rest of them though, he never caught whiff of what was really going on, until it was far too late."

@@HistorywithCy I'm a bit easier to please than the rest of the Total War community. I like it but I am kinda disappointed by the geographical size of the campaign map; it should have been at least southern Balkans, Greece, Crete/Aegean, all of Anatolia, and Mesopotamia. Currently the map is central Anatolia, the Levant, Egypt and western desert, and Nubia. Probably in future dlcs, the map may be expanded to include those areas. There aren't enough playable and non playable factions in my view. Egyptians, Canaanites, and Hittites. I do appreciate the detail the developers took with using native ancient Egyptian names for the settlements in the Two Lands. I've asked for something like pharaoh since Rome II came out. My wish for the game was at release a campaign map about the geographic range as Rome II and Attila with Egyptians, Canaanites, Hittites, Assyrians, Mittani, Babylonia, Mycenaeans, Minoans, Libu tribes, etc. The sea peoples would be an event like the Mongols in Medieval II and some dlc ideas would be making them playable as like a horde faction, then a future dlc with Elamites added and maybe Indus valley. Jesus comes as a thief in the night; only to slaughter, pillage, and destroy; come and gone before you awake. Then, when they awake, the kings of the earth gather at the site called Armageddon - apparently, to beat their swords into plowshares. A thief comes only to steal and slaughter and destroy; I came so that they might have life and have it more abundantly. (Joh 10:10 NABO) ("Behold, I am coming like a thief." Blessed is the one who watches and keeps his clothes ready, so that he may not go naked and people see him exposed.) They then assembled the kings in the place that is named Armageddon in Hebrew. @mormacfey Ok. I can be a little slow on the uptake. I see what you are saying. Prophetically, they used colloquial terms, of the common vernacular, terms that were idiomatic for the day, within their grasp of understanding as pertaining to the motif, within the existing manufature for said motif.
The rebellions clearly wouldn’t have happened if they had no hope of establishing an independent state…
@@Thor-Orion The Hasmonean Kingdom was never independent.
@mormacfey he was trying to argue semantics, but no historian agrees with him. They obviously were still a part of the world around them and had Hellenic influences, but they weren’t paying tributes, they were worshipping their native monotheistic God with idolatry and graven images non existent during this period.
@saoham659 Ramses fought the hittites at Kadesh. Entirely different battle than the many battles of Megiddo.
A while back I watched a vid that talked about a lost kingdom/empire that is referred to in a letter, possibly the Armana letters, where the pharaoh was corresponding with several "Great Kings". Does anyone know where I might find information on this?

You're welcome, thanks for watching.
Hello, Cy! May I suggest a topic? I would love to learn more about the people of Urartu and the Hurrians. You did enjoyable videos on those years ago, yet I think there is a lot more to explore! My interest was sparked by recent vacation in Armenia, a country which is very cognisant of its very ancient past.
can you make a video about the kurds please ?

thanks
I dreamt about this place without prior knowledge. I don’t know what to think

Great thanks
Thank you!
Do you think you'll make a video covering the history of the south Semetic speaking peoples in the future? I would love to see what you're able to find regarding their migations into southern Arabia, and gain a better understanding of the cultural and political dynamics within the Sabean & Himyrarite kingdoms. Thank you!
Funky cool Megiddo
I just clicked on this video to see if anyone is making a comparison to today's current events.
I clicked on this video to see if anyone is commenting Deedee Megadoodoo. If you know you know 😂

Do you know how arabic and some west asian languages still preserve ancient place names? 😀

So does this mean mankind's war started there but will also end there
My megiddo! Yeah!

You don't know how timely this is.
Oof!
Timely
5,000 years / 20 layers = 250 years per layer -- that's an average. The US' 250th year is 2026 (1776-2026).
Yeah, mindboggling when you stop and think about it... how much must have gone in those 5000 years!
What does. This prophecy detail. With the americas . Walk on part of the war. .

I'm about to besiege the city of Megiddo as the Egyptians in Total war Pharaoh.
Nice! Curious, what do you think of it? I've considered getting it but haven't gotten around to it yet. I have Rome and Attila. Thanks also for watching!
My hope is in the future they try a proper bronze age title like I described.
@@qh777 Ok good to know! They might have add ons and mods in the works. I was just wondering because I like using the gameplay to make machinimas and was wondering if it was worth getting it for that. Thanks for your opinion, it's really helpful!
It may be good for that. The campaign map has Ugarit, Alashiya, Carchemish, Alalakh, Ashkelon, Hattusa, Kanesh etc.@@HistorywithCy
5:53 ok really interesting but I believe in the Bible Baal was a storm god that’s cool
@IStevenSeagal Baal came from Egypt as a storm god…. Yahweh was a purely Jewish understanding
(Joh 10:10 NABO)
("Behold, I am coming like a thief." Blessed is the one who watches and keeps his clothes ready, so that he may not go naked and people see him exposed.) They then assembled the kings in the place that is named Armageddon in Hebrew. (Rev 16:15-16 NABO)
He shall judge between the nations, and impose terms on many peoples. They shall beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks (Isa 2:4 NABO)
@mormacfey Ok. I can be a little slow on the uptake. I see what you are saying. Prophetically, they used colloquial terms, of the common vernacular, terms that were idiomatic for the day, within their grasp of understanding as pertaining to the motif, within the existing manufature for said motif.
Understanding what was to come, Joshua led then into the promised land and Moses took the highway across the desert to the border of the promised land within weeks of their departure from Egypt. His flock of chickens... uh... I mean - Christians.. were afraid to enter. Are we expecting something worse than the Holocaust?
It shall be a time unsurpassed in distress since nations began until that time. (Dan 12:1 NABO)
for at that time there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until now, nor ever will be. (Mat 24:21 NABO)

The vision of the evenings and the mornings is true, as spoken (Dan 8:26 NABO)
Your covenant with death shall be canceled and your pact with the nether world shall not stand. When the overwhelming scourge passes, you shall be trampled down by it. Whenever it passes, it shall take you; morning after morning it shall pass, By day and by night; terror alone shall convey the message. (Isa 28:18-19 NABO)
In the morning you will say, 'Would that it were evening!' and in the evening you will say, 'Would that it were morning!' for the dread that your heart must feel and the sight that your eyes must see. (Deu 28:67 NABO)
There is a baptism with which I must be baptized, and how great is my anguish until it is accomplished! "I have come to set the earth on fire, and how I wish it were already blazing! (Luk 12:49-50 NABO)
(it is better to marry than to be on fire (1Co 7:9 NABO) Be fruitful, and multiply (Gen 1:28 KJV)
"For by my wrath a fire is enkindled that shall rage to the depths of the nether world, Consuming the earth with its yield, and licking with flames the roots of the mountains. (Deu 32:22 NABO)
Down I went to the roots of the mountains; the bars of the nether world (abyss) were closing behind me forever (Jon 2:7 NABO)
I saw a star (Wormwood Rev 8:11 NABO) that had fallen from the sky to the earth. It was given the key for the passage to the abyss. (Rev 9:1 NABO)
'Who will go down into the abyss (nether world)?' (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead) (Rom 10:7 NABO)
We saw his star (of Bethlehem) at its rising and have come to do him homage. (Mat 2:2 NABO)
The star was called "Wormwood (Rev 8:11 NABO)
It was given the key for the passage to the abyss. (Rev 9:1 NABO)
I hold the keys to death and the netherworld (Abyss). (Rev 1:18 NABO)

Who will go down into the abyss?' (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead) (Rom 10:7 NABO)
As the Lawless One, with all the power, signs, and wonders at the disposal of falsehood, and seeming to be a part of the workings of Satan, 2Thess 2:9-11, he leads them astray, as if with a bridle in the jaw of the people, on the day of the great slaughter, Is 30:25-28, having been given the power and rule, along with great authority of The Dragon as the First Beast/ Red Dragon, Rv 13:2, with seven heads and ten horns, Rv 12:3.
Just as it is appointed that human beings die - be judged - appear a second time, (so also Christ) Heb 9:27-28. Then the (Red) Dragon (Demon Sin) stood before the woman about to give birth, to devour her child when she gave birth. (Rev 12:4 NABO)
And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord (Jesus) will kill with the breath of his mouth and render powerless by the manifestation of his coming, (2Th 2:8 NABO)
If you do well, you can hold up your head; but if not, sin is a demon lurking at the door: his urge is toward you, yet you can be his master (Gen 4:7 NABO)
Who, robed in splendor, judges nations, crushes heads across the wide earth, Who drinks from the brook by the wayside and thus holds high the head. (Psa 110:6-7 NABO)

And they counted out my wages, thirty pieces of silver (Zec 11:12 NABO)
This time take the gear of a foolish shepherd. (Zec 11:15 NABO)
For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength. (1Co 1:25 NABO)
for power is made perfect in weakness. (2Co 12:9 NABO)
and when he was made perfect, he became the eternal source of salvation for all (Heb 5:9 NABO)
But I am a worm, hardly human, scorned by everyone, despised by the people. (Psa 22:7 NABO)
God sent a worm which attacked the plant, so that it withered. And when the sun arose, God sent a burning east wind; and the sun beat upon Jonah's head till he became faint. Then he asked for death, saying, "I would be better off dead than alive." (Jon 4:7-8 NABO) (Thus begins the way of the lord in the desert)
He grew up like a sapling before him, like a shoot from the parched earth… He was spurned and avoided by men, a man of suffering, accustomed to infirmity (Isa 53:2-3 NABO) (apparently, the worm attacked the shoot also)
-------------------------------------------------
Warning of the impending Day of the Lord, he was swallowed by the Beast out of the Sea and spewed out upon the shore as the Beast out of the Earth, as the sun beat down upon his head and a burning east wind began the Way of the Lord in the Desert.
The way of the Lord in the desert needs to be put into context with the previous passage:
The First Beast - Day of the Lord - Sacrifice - Indeed, she has received from the hand of the LORD double for all her sins.
The Second Beast - Way of the Lord - Resurrection - Make straight in the wasteland a highway for our God! (Isa 40:2-3 NABO)
the one who is and who was and who is to come, the almighty (Rev 1:8 NABO)
The beast that you saw existed once but now exists no longer. It will come up from the abyss and is headed for destruction. (Rev 17:8 NABO)
The king not the armies gather there.
What a shit-show of violence, destruction and death human history is, and still it continues. Even now when some of us have had a bit of peace for a while too many don't understand how rare and valuable it is and play games that undermine it.
