@@Uncharted8907 It's that metal piece in the 110 spot where the screw was initially located. It allows the screw to be tightened whilst making sure the SSD is perfectly level and not at a crooked angle which could cause damage to the SSD connector.
Honestly, I feel like all gaming systems should come with more space. Like I got an Acer Nitro 5 recently, and it has one of the M2's and it's so small, that I have to use a USB hard drive for the rest of my games. Cause I already ran out of space. Until I get the Hard drive cable to upgrade...idk if my model didn't come with originally or was taken out. Smh
That ring near the 110 mark is a spacer you are supposed to put in the hole you put the screw in securing the ssd, this to keep it in place and to sure the ssd sits firmly tightened
The spacer Rob. DONT USE THE SSD WITHOUT THE SPACER. Possibly damage to the connection point. And you will have a loose spacer inside your beloved ps5 😖
Seems like you forgot to move the standoff. You are bending the SSD and the connector and the standoff is now rattling around in there which could in worst case scenario cause a short. On an other note. You don't need the "PS5" Version of this SSD. The WD_Black SN850 or SN850X (the latter being slightly faster) is the same thing. But you really should get one with a heatsink since they can run quite hot, and there isn't any heat dispersion for it in the PS5 like there is on most PC Motherboards. And lastly, when looking for SSDs for your PS5, you'll want the read speed to be AT LEAST 5.500 MB/s to not butcher your on board SSD since that's the PS5s read speed. This particular SSD in the short has a 7.000 MB/s read speed.
@@mza4739 The "spacer" that comes with a Motherboard for a M.2 installation in a PC is called a standoff. So I'd assume it would be called the same here. But I could be wrong since it looks a bit different.
You don't necessarily need an SSD that can do 6000mbps. I'm using a Gen 4 Kingston that does 3500, and I'm having no problems. Sony recommended that amount, but you only need a gen 4.
@@reactking7093 I never said that slower drives wouldn't work. But by using a slower drive, the PS5 has to compromise and lower the speed of the on board SSD to the speed of the SSD you installed. Which in turn will slow down load times in general.
@@ImHeo I undertake your point. I just wouldn't be willing to spend $50 extra. I already have an external hard drive connected to it. Even the slowest gen 4 should be way faster than that.

Just got mine same WD Black 2TB from Amazon Official decision Ps5 thats best one for Ps5 with heatsink. I installed my and its easy now have enough memory.
What about that little spacer little metal ring thing will that just travel around on the inside freely?? Am I supposed to let that tiny little thing go in the fans maybe? 🤔🤔
Definitely feel like the Xbox is a bit more convenient for extra storage as it just slots in, as opposed to having to remove parts of the console to slot memory into the ps5.
How much does the SSD cost and does it affect any important storage data like game files or gallery? I need to a ton of storage for my big project ant involves more than 600GB of gallery videos on PS5
Does it matter if I choose a Read Speed of 7,300MBs instead of a Read Speed of 7,000MBs for the 2TB official licenced 2TB WD_Black SSD Memory stick? As I know, Sony says it has to be specific with what goes in the PS5 for memory.
You forgot to move the spacer to the correct position. Now you have a loose piece of metal in the SSD bay.
was about to comment the same thing
Was going to say the same thing. Glad I'm not the only one.
You absolutely right
I’m confused what’s that

It does have chips on it.

Not gonna lie, I feel like the console should have come with this, or at least more storage. Games nowadays can take up so much space
And then brag for the higher price tag ...
Yes fr
Of course. They should also come with a disk drive at no extra cost! And free/more affordable multiplayer…

This is why you don’t use RUclips shorts as a guide lmao

Step 5.5 Don't lose the screw inside your PS5 like I did. Much shaking and frustration ensued

Dude removed the back panel so smoothly. I had to struggle to get mine off.
I scratched mine accidentally no biggie it still works
It was probably already removed so he could just lift it easily.

Step 0 - have enough money for a PS5 and SSD
But why does it always feel like you're going to break it when try to open it 😔

Bro the spacer. You will ruin the alignment of the m2
Rob is a genius
How expensive is it?
You guys missed one part. U need to remove the support of the screw in the default position
Step 8
Wonder why your ps5 does rattle and realize u didn't place the spacer😃👍
You forgot to move the spacer with the screw
The ps5 plate just pulls off like that huh? Was that a digital or disk console? I hope there weren't too many ps5s damaged by this tutorial.😢

Step 2 :Have MONEY
only one I found that actually shows how to insert it
You forgot to move the spacer to the 80 slot, that particular SSD you’re showing on the video is 80 mm tall 🤦🏾♂️
Thank you so much no one said till you hear a click I have been trying to connect it for a hour now
Great, mine has just shipped. Waiting for it to be delivered now
Should touch the screwdriver to something metal to get rid of any static charge before.
Cheers Rob 👍🏻

Is getting a 4tb one overkill? What do you guys think?

Is heatsink important I’ve watched a lot of videos saying how an ssd needs one but from my understanding it just helps the ps5 not overheat
That second screw is glued in why is it that hard to unscrew??
Thank you for the insight though I'm curious is it the same for all SSDs meant for the ps5 or is this installation unique to western digital?
All the same, but some don't come with a heatsink.
Step 7. Remove everything you just did and put the supplied spacer in the slot then screw it back in. 🤦
So you get the original storage + ssd storage
Step Zero: Disconnect the power cable.
Great! Paid 229 EUR for a incredible fast internal 2 TB SSD. A 2 TB external SSD for my PS4...a dream.🥳
I don’t have that green plating. Is it ok to just use the spacer?
Aye bro i don't have a green plating either
Rahh blast from the past. I thought you were dead.

It doesn't need to be that specific, official ssd storage right?
You forgot to know that it only takes gen4 ssd
How many of u still snapped one of them faceplate clips due to man handling lols😅😅😂😊
Will this void warranty
No, installing an SSD will NOT void your warranty. It’s just like hooking up an external hard drive or SSD with a USB cable.
You forgot to use the spacer
I can’t remove the second screw it’s like it’s super glued
Wait, does that means you don't have to remover anything or even make a back up of your current drive?

I’ve opened my ps5 and the piece of green area has somehow snapped of which means I can’t install it
Anyone else unable to get it recognized by the Ps5 to format? I'm certain it is installed correctly.
The m.2 screw was so tight it stripped, so I have to try and remove it a different way
How do you take step 2 off?
Thank you very much if you didn't say wait for the click I would have just screwed it up and it wouldn't worked
His voice reminds me of the Announcer on the show Brainiac
Ps5 wouldn’t recognise my wd 850 no matter what angle I tried no click .
This does not work for me. It always says "Can't format M 2 SSD. Turn off PS5."
I got adata 1gd , $60 AND WORks perfect
Will the msi spatium m460 work with the ps5?
Upgraded from samsung 980 pro 1tb to the sn850x 2tb because im running out of room 😭🤣
How can i get my some of my games over from one ssd to a new one
What if your ps5 don’t have a hard drive slot
So if the ps5 is horizontal im assuming u remove the top cover
Actually, it's the bottom cover.
Does this mean that i have extra storage or only the 1tb?
