On the contrary, the part you didn't like was my favorite part. LOL! The laid back rap flow was such a good contrast to the tension being built throughout the song. Appreciate the honest reaction though!
Stray Kids have such a wide range of genres in their discography that would definitely suit your taste. Off the same album, the more vocal tracks will be Waiting For Us and Lonely St, but I'm sure so many more recommendations will come through the comments, hopefully you try them out too! 😄

just subscribed :) it's really hard to find someone who genuienly gives their opinion about the music without trying to appeal to the fanbase so I actually enjoyed your video and I'm looking forward for your next.
as for skz, they are a completely self-produced group meaning they are completely in charge of every step of the music making from initial production to writing, composing, arranging, sound engineering, directing the recording and etc...
skz is known as a unique group for their style of music, because in the span of 5 years they tried 45+ genres and nearly 200 songs, with all of the different genres they still managed to give it that skz taste that they're known for.
they also have created their own genre with the song GOD'S MENU called the the "MALA TASTE" genre.
therefore they got alot of hate for their style of music, people started calling it noise music which now has become their nickname from people who dont like them, but skz didnt let that go to them and released an album called NO EASY which is wordplay on NOISY, they made it clear to the people saying our music is noisy and we're proud, I'm saying all of this because if you listened to some of their popular songs in the future you might think they flex a little too much but if you know the amount of hate they've experienced (and still do unfortunately) you'll realise this is nothing because skz are actually very humble people.
anyways here are some of my recommendations based on what genre you like:-
    - if you like to check out the songs that labelled them as noisy: SIDE EFFECTS (it all started with this song), GOD'S MENU, BACK DOOR, MIROH, DISTRICT 9, MY PACE, CHRISTMAS EVEL, DOMINO, SSICK, ALL IN, FREEZE, GIVE ME YOUR TMI, CIRCUS, WOLFGANG, THUNDEROUS (this one was on the NO EASY album).
    - if you like more "ballad"y or vocal heavy songs: SECRET SECRET, SORRY I LOVE YOU, WINTER FALLS, SILENT CRY, PHOBIA, WAITING FOR US, SCARS, ANOTHER DAY, SUNSHINE, THE SOUND, HELLEVATOR, GONE AWAY, 24 TO 25, CHILL, NOVEL, LOST ME, EX, FAIRY TALE.
note/ some of these songs have a live performance on the "first take" channel, trust me they're worth watching.
    - if you like hiphop and rap heavy tracks: EASY, CHARMER, MUDDY WATER, CHEESE, ANY, MAZE OF MEMORIES, 19, TMT, DOUBLE KNOT.
    - I'm sure people have told you about 3RACHA by now so here's some of their songs: WE GO, HEYDAY, 3RACHA (its the song name).
    - and we also have the holy trinity of skz'z spicy songs (they're all unit songs): RED LIGHTS, TASTE, DRIVE.
min you this is not even half of their discography so good luck.
FUN FACT: they have 2 Australian members so you might here an aussie accent here and there in their songs.

Stray Kids is a total package. They combine the visual (mv), singing, beat and melody and choreography to make a more stimulating experience. Therefore, you won't be as enchanted just by first watching or listening to the songs. Their music is just like old wine. You will fall into them as you watch their performance more.

First I want to say that Venom is a bside and not a tilte track, and I always find intrresting to be introduced with a bside ! If you want the title track of this album is Maniac !
For more interesting rap flow I would recommend Miroh, Back door, God's menu or Thunderous.
Okay so the person you didn't like the flow of is Hyunjin ! And he actually got other parts in the song : he is one of the member singing the chorus (the spiderweb part) with Felix and Lee Know and in the bridge full rap he was the 3rd rapper ! Most fans really enjoyed this rap of his but I totally understand the fact that you did not like it, it's not even close to his best rap.
And honestly this song is not the most interesting when it comes to lyrics at all. They have way more other songs about mental health or other taboo topics in general that I found more interesting. But I find interesting that you said partner and not girlfriend or boyfriend because all of Stray kids songs, beside Airplane and There, are gender neutral !

  • @RM_formerlyjustRMbutYTsucks
    @RM_formerlyjustRMbutYTsucks Год назад +11

2:17 "This dude's voice. I'm happy he has the chorus." My impression from this comment is that you're thinking it's the same singer for this part as you commented on in the first verse -- it's not. SKZ doesn't do the "leave that member out" thing. They don't have the designated stars and everyone else is backup; or set positions so the vocals can have 80% of the song, the rappers can have 18%, and the dancers can pipe up for 2% just to say they participated. There are no official set positions; they all rap, sing, and dance, and that means they _all_ get to participate equally because that's how they were formed to function. They have one of the most equal line distributions in the industry. They switch up who's singing/rapping what parts in every verse and chorus. It's very rare for them to stick with the same person doing the same bits multiple times. No one's there to be quiet, basically.
The one you didn't like, Hyunjin, happened to be the one doing the experimental bit of the song this time. They're an experimental group, so they'll do things like mix genres, pull jarring switches at seemingly random moments...or throw in a highly contrasting vocal or flow (or both, in this case) to play with the sound and highlight elements. It's totally ok if it's not your thing, but it came across as you believing that's just "his sound" overall and the song would have been better off without him. In reality, he was also elsewhere in the song and blending into the dominant style, and this solo moment was a deliberately jarringly different section written by and whose sound/style was decided by the producing unit (the first rapper, the rapper you liked right after this part you didn't like, and the second singer you liked whom you thought was the same person as the first singer you liked). Just wanted to clarify that so you'll have the knowledge if you check out anything else: That was a vocal style and flow he adopted, under direction, for this song; it's not his unchanging personal style, leaving him a weak point in anything else you might listen to.
As for depth, multiple people have already said it, but I have to add my voice: SKZ are among the most highly recognized groups for their deep, powerful, meaningful, often clever lyrics. They live for wordplay, sometimes three or four layers deep. There's an occasional straightforward one, but those are the minority. Barring MAXIDENT, their first and only love-focused album (and even that one is _all_ kinds of love, and all stages and feelings about it, not just schmoopy romantic blather), almost none of their 150+ songs are romantic-love-centric. There _is_ a lot with loving and accepting themselves, loving the people around them, and a multitude of other deeper, richer themes like fear, self-doubt, confusion, mental illness, finding happiness in simple things, hiding one's depression and (in what's considered a response to that song) helping each other through the depression they think they've hidden, regretting the past choices or missed opportunities, accepting that they must embrace walking their path for their own reasons instead of as an attempt to shape the world, anxiety, determination despite pain and discouragement, clapping back to the truckloads of hate they get (without being nasty or off-putting about it), self-acceptance, and more.
Even Venom, while not meant to be one of their deeper dives (they made it to play with the sticky sound), isn't the simple "oh, somebody's caught in a romantic relationship with someone else" concept you read it as. It _could_ be -- that's one of the meanings they left it open to for people not familiar with them, as it's easy to think it and move along if not invested. But almost anything like this has another meaning that they intend for people familiar with their larger body of work and consistent themes, things like a penchant for overwork, realities of the industry they choose to be in, and even just relationships beyond the default assumption of romantic pairings.
The depth is very much there to see and appreciate if one decides to listen further and keep in mind not to go with only the surface-level assumption of meaning. Yeah, "Cheese" is straightforward clapback humor. "God's Menu" is straightforward claiming of their own style and lack of interest in what others have to say, albeit said with clever use of metaphor. "Easy" exists for the pure swag. But "Mirror," "Voices," "Hellevator," "Phobia," "Levanter," "District 9," "I Am YOU," "Scars," "Slump," "Chronosaurus," "Side Effects," "Silent Cry," "Secret Secret" (one that rings particularly close for a lot of queer fans, which is the majority of the fandom), "Red Lights" (one that rings close for a lot of fans with illnesses like OCD), and literally over a hundred more? There are relatable, sometimes gut-clenching meanings there. Even "Maniac," dismissed by many as a simple banger, has depth of meaning -- stop performing the societally demanded facade of an arbitrary concept of normalcy and instead embrace the truth of the inner self that seems so maniacal to you but in reality is something almost everyone has hidden within. "Everyone is uniquely odd; 'normal' is a lie. Be you." But most locals just hear it, bop along to it, and think no further, when the meaning is right there to be found.
Anyway, they're literally famous for their mastery with lyrics. They get hired by other artists and show productions on the strength of their strength in lyrics and composition. Venom, out of more than 150 songs, just doesn't happen to be one where that was their main focus, and yet even it isn't as one-layered as was assumed here. For someone who appreciates lyrics, there's a treasure trove awaiting in the discography.

The voice that really caught your attention was Seungmin.
There is an interpretation of this song that the web that they purposely trapped themselves in is being kpop idols and the music industry. Of course that doesn't mean that the top layer of the song isn't about a romantic relationship.
Stray kids has said that they like to leave interpretation of their art to the one's listening and watching. They enjoy watching the reaction videos and seeing the theories that Stays and casual listeners come up with.
    Maniac
    Thunderous
    Freeze
    Easy
    Backdoor
    God's menu
These are just a few popular songs.
Thunderous is an amazing song that never fails to wow, but we know how you feel about flex songs so warn you that that is a comeback to the people who have an insulting them and calling their music noise music.
Thank you so much for your honest review.

    • @StaySiren
      @StaySiren Год назад

Would we call Thunderous a flex song? I thought it was a sassy clap back for the criticism that their music is just noise, and just them saying that it doesn’t matter, they aren’t going to express what they need to, and embrace who they are without letting people’s negatives affect them. That’s not so much a flex as God’s Menu - which says that no one can copy them because they keep making new things, even though I don’t much consider it a flex song either. It’s not like a BP song without interpretation and wordplay with straightforward messages. But that’s just my take.

What I like about stray kids is how they're clearly still playing around with genres and styles - it's been pretty fun seeing them develop musically. Anout the lyrics, I think a lot gets lost in translation because the lyricsm and rhyming schemes in Korean are often pretty complex, and many English translations just don't quite capture the full meanings

They are a group with an incredibly diverse discography, which makes it hard for someone who isn’t already a fan of them as a group to appreciate their music. I’ll admit, I didn’t vibe much to Venom initially, but it grew on me. This is a group of 8 (originally 9) boys who debuted after a survival show. I would definitely check out Hellevator, District 9 and Miroh (they still have the 9th member in these) and then the ot8 new era - God’s Menu, Back door, Thunderous, Maniac and Case 143. They’ve got so many different songs for all tastes that it is wild. Earlier b-sides I’d recommend are: awkward silence and get cool. Later b-sides: Charmer, Domino, Wolfgang, Taste, Red Lights, Give me your TMI. I’d also recommend Fam (Korean version) as a lighthearted, wholesome introduction to each member.
The music is typically written and produced by three members of the group called 3racha made up of Bangchan, Han and Changbin though most members have input on music and lyrics, and most have dipped their toes into writing too. They are constantly releasing, constantly engaging with their supporters, and so hard working and their chemistry together is so unreal that it is infectious, which has led to them having an incredibly loyal fan base (called Stays).

I really like how open and honest you are, about what you like and dont like. I really wish more people would do this for those watching, and for themselves. It REALLY helps us to make recommendations that you will ACTUALLY enjoy, instead of you feeling pressured to love everything about anything and maybe not enjoy a singe thing you watch. Music shouldn't feel like work, even if it is. ❤
This group has 170+ songs, and 45+ genres.... They are also COMPLETELY self-produced. I actually think they may be right up your ally. This one here, this is what we call a sticky song. It grows on you, truly. Because the mske everything and therefore havr to still love it after the thousandth listen... That is actually a common occurrence. Which is what makes a song you TRULY love of theirs, that much better. They are without a doubt worth checking out. Heck, the fact that you liked it at all on your first listen means you may actually find yourself liking Stray Kids. Lol Because I can say right now that your music tastes, in general, fit. I have the exact same artists on my playlist that you have on your wall behind you. So, you are in good company.
It's also REALLY nice to see someone who wants depth, however they actually know what that words means for them. That will also help us too... This track, for example, was a top B-side... In other words it's not meant to be DAMN like a title track. lol Nor is it ment to APPEAR too deep, because then the general public wont like it. They save the really amazing lyrics for the many other tracks on each of their albums. (Funny thing is, this song in particular actually DOES have a deeper meaning, regarding the music industry... but I'll be honest, I didn't notice it either the first time I listened. And I am quite literally a storyteller by profession. Haha These guys REALLY Like wordplay. As for the part that threw you pff, SOMETIMES you will come across a track where they tried something new.... And that was definitely a new aspect.
They are a very experimental group with no positions. However, if there were, he would be one of their "main dancers" if you know what i mean. Since this MV didn't have choreography at the time... Well, It was his turn to be the guinea pig. That having been said, please, keep being upfront about the little things that aren't your style. For example that one remark says the songs with less extreme, or at least less complete, style changeups may be more to your liking. Theres actually very very few that do anything like this trsck did, so hopefully the fans will put those few that do at the back of the recommended list. ❤

One thing that may make it harder to appreciate the lyrics is that the wordplay between English and Korean is hard to get just from looking at the translation of the lyrics. Personally, I really appreciate the fact that Stray Kids are self-produced and I loved the instrumentation/beat of this song. It is a B-side, but that doesn't take away from it. Typically, their songs can have multiple meaning and often include wordplay off of Korean and English pronunciations and meanings. They also have several art references in the video. Seungmin's voice is a treat, glad you recognized it.

thank you for reacting to Stray Kids (can be abbreviated to SKZ)! I hope you react to them more!
this song has a kind of specific sound, so although I like it a lot, I understand why others might not like it. although I must say it could be a grower, so maybe you will like it more after a few listens.
Stray Kids write their songs themselves, mainly the producing unit called 3racha (pronounced as three-racha - wordplay with hotsauce sriracha - they looove word plays) and they like experimenting with genres, so if you dive a bit deeper you will find a whole variety of sounds from them.
if you want to hear the whole variety of their sounds, I recommend to check out the whole album where Venom is from. the album is called Oddinary (they love word plays, did I tell you? XD) and the other songs are maniac (title track, has MV), freeze (has MV), Lonely St. (has MV), Charmer, Waiting for us, Muddy water.
their most popular title tracks, which people usually recommend to start with are (in chronological order):
Miroh, God's menu, Back door, Thunderous, Maniac.
SKZ debut in 2018 and have around 150 songs in their discography. 3racha contributed to 99% of them.
Many songs of theirs don't have deeper lyrics, many songs have deeper lyrics and/or talk about mental health. some songs are very confusing, because they sound like a great song for shacking your body on a dance floor but the lyrics is actually super deep and rather sad (for example my beloved "silent cry").

They are lyric geniuses when you get into their B side stuff and the stuff they release directly to their RUclips channel called SKZ Record.
Those songs they will sometimes break off into their different uinits or as individuals to sing and write.
    Songs like
    Secret Secret which
was written by Han and has to do with dealing with anxiety and hiding it
    And Silent Cry
Which is a responding song to Secret Secret. It is about those watching you struggle and wanting to help you though you have not asked.

It looks like you like vocal heavy songs? I’m sorry if I’m wrong I just watched another video of yours and I would recommend secret secret, sorry I love you, levanter , gone away, I am you, scars, hellavator(predebut), voices, And Mirror.
But for their title tracks I would recommend any of them. The one for this album was Maniac. Some more popular ones that alot of ppl reccomend for first time listeners is thunderous and God’s menu (both are about their confidence in themselves, so just be aware of the lyrics seem as tho they are bringing themselves up or boasting)
But honestly by skz Song would do they have so many songs so I can’t recommend all.

  • @binch_babe

I definitely would recommend listening to Maniac if you plan to check out another song! Lyrically it's more straightforward but by no means a typical pop-song/title-track topic to sing about (and I say 'straightforward' as Venom isn't necessarily about a romantic infatuation at all, but that wouldn't be obvious to a new listener! Especially as it's a B-side track, its intentions as a song differ from a title track)
Others have said this already, but I think it's great to reiterate again and again that, from the very beginning of their inception, this is a self-produced group with a discography that is 1) fucking large, 2) very personal to every member of the group; like there's really only a handful of their songs that are purposely produced as self-flexes or purely pop-y for pop's sake, which i've seen you mention before how that's not really your thing.
Another thing to keep in mind going forward for Stray Kids is that before they became this group, three of the members were already doing music together under the moniker 3RACHA, and they were always rap-oriented. In Stray Kids, they continue to be known as 3RACHA and are the main producing/composing team of the group, so their musical approach largely influences Stray Kids' music profile. As a whole, they fall under the pop genre and their title tracks will mostly showcase every member's ability where you'll have sections for the rappers, vocalists and (for live performances) the dancers of the group, a common formula in k-pop idol groups since forever... But Stray Kids have gotten famous for their own take on pop music and incorporate many types of genres and styles while still maintaining their own authenticity as a team.
This isn't really to convince you (or anyone) to like Stray Kids. Hopefully, it just gives a better idea of what they're about and, y'know, you go from there! There are many more idol groups nowadays that are self-produced partially or in full, BTS having been one of the first successful examples and motivators of this more recent trend in k-pop, and k-pop itself really is its own industry that taps into both the domestic and international market, so there's seriously so much diversity and appeal to anyone's music taste!

  • @sjbcreativeco

Honestly I didn't like this at all when I first heard it but enjoy it now :)
It's a funny one to start with when brand new to them, many are saying their title tracks are the best but actually my fave SKZ songs are B-sides so you just have to explore and see what lands with you. You can't love all the songs and there's many of theirs that I wouldn't choose to put on even though they're one of my ult groups. But they have something for everyone as they are so versatile, and sooooo much music you can't get bored either.
I enjoy the fact that you say which bits you are less keen on (even though I disagree with those parts haha) as so many reactors are very vague or just love everything!

It's been almosttt an year since I've become a stay, my first was maniac and it was probably one of the easiest songs to catch up with your brain as someone who listens to them fir the first time.
Other thank maniac, if you want to listen to other bops then thunderous, red lights, drive (heavily auto tuned just for the way the song was made), The Sound (Japanese) and lonely st. are few of their best whereas for calm and healing ones, chill (both Japanese and kr. versions are available), secret secret (my personal fav skz song), winter falls, 24-25 (never knew a Christmas song would be my comfort song), sorry I love you, there (japanese) and more...
And it's fine if u don't get them at first because they are a group with an exceptionally high range of music genres I'm sure you'll find something exactly to your liking ❤

For One Ok Rock I recommend the songs Stand Out to Fit In MV and live is a good watch, We Are, and Renegades these guys sound great live and put on a show.
Also just side note if ur looking for unique KPop songs check out Colde Feat: RM song, Don't Ever Say; Love Me, So!YoON Feat: RM song, Smoke Sprite and Balming Tiger Feat: RM song called Sexy Nukim this band is Indie group btw. Mostly Hip Hop but, they call themselves an multi-national alternative K-pop group” that refuse to be limited by specific genres.

U should check out more Stray Kids and their 3 newer songs they are Megaverse, LaLaLa, S Class and u may like there more cutesy happy vibe song Case 143 and also I forgot song Circus I like a lot too. For older songs my hubby likes Gods menu btw this was my first song I heard and had him listen to it and he loved it too. He also enjoyed Thunderous, Maniac, and Freeze. Also Stray Kids collab with Tiger JK been listening to him forever since mid 90's with song called, Top Line.
But, one of my fav song is a collab between leader BangChan (Korean Australian, so is Felix, the rapper with blond hair with the deeper darker voice in this MV) and Hyunjin the guy u didn't care much for lol it's ok with song called Red Lights it's got a dark sexy vibe to it. But definitely worth a listen to at least once everyon

I enjoy the song, but other songs of theirs that I prefer are Back Door, Red Lights, Mania, Case 143, God's Menu, Miroh. Any of those I think are better "first listens" for Stray Kids. I look forward to more Kpop reactions from you! I would love to see reactions to The Rose (or even just their lead singer, Woosung), Ateez, Got7 or Jackson Wang. If you want songs with a very deep mean take a look at some B sides that don’t have music videos like secret secret, silent cry, or songs from the noeasy album in general for full group songs for a meaning (the first 3 songs are pretty much an F U to the haters saying we are gonna do what we want and be who we want). They have an experimental song that was released called tortoise and the hare that was written by the youngest producer in the group Han jisung in about 15-20 minutes. They also have some Japanese songs (with Korean versions and a couple with English versions) that have a deeper meaning as well such as scars or slump (slump was written by Han jisung as well same as secret secret. Slump was written during a time when he was struggling with his writing and it’s actually what brought him out of his slump) (secret secret is a song that was written about his anxiety)

In kpop, we call them "groups" or "artists", not bands. The term "band" is reserved for those groups who play actual instruments like The Rose, ONEWE, Day6, Hoppipolla, Lucy, NFlying, FT ISLAND, CN Blue, etc. Most of those bands are "idol bands" because they follow the structure of kpop groups for the most part. Outside of those bands, kpop groups are just called "groups" normally. In our community we almost have our own language, so if you want to sound like a fluent kpop fan, I suggest brushing up on some terms we commonly use.
